I understand that this is a popular fan interpretation but there is also the fact that the Imperium worships and is led by an immortal corpse that hates what the empire has become because it’s stagnant and not the golden age he wanted.

It’s a critique of fascism by taking it to its logical extreme. A leader so venerated he is literally a god to them but in actuality not a leader at all. There is no “great man history” at play in the contemporary imperium. Just a whole lot of terrible ones. And of course everything different is an enemy and must be purged, we cannot possibly attempt to negotiate with them because that is weakness and will lead to our destruction.

The Dune Connection

Warhammer takes a LOT from Dune (a good thing, all great sci-fi takes from earlier great sci-fi) and is essentially Dune through a mirror darkly, what could have happened if the empire had gone on as it had without the scattering. Even though there aren’t aliens in Dune, the massive nuclear stockpiles are justified as an “in case of hostile intelligence” whether AI or other. The empire rose out of the chaos of the Butlerian Jihad promising order and protection and the cost of purging of any who defy our new empire and its new religion.

What I’m saying is, the Emperor should have discredited himself like Paul Atreides knew he should have and Leto II Atreides committed to died the Golden Path.

speaking of warhammer a lot of people here and elsewhere have resopnded to my 'warhyammer 40k is a world where Fascism Is True' post by arguing that, like, the fact that warhammer makes it clear that the world the empire creates is miserable and awful makes it a critique/refutation of fascism and, like, i think that's being pretty naive about what fascists believe. like, read the turner diaries, the ur-example of the Modern Fascist work -- it is not happy! it ends with all-out nuclear warfare! fascists are under no illusion about whether or not fascism causes mass suffering and death, they just think it's Good and Necessary because if they don't cause the mass suffering and death then one of the Other Races will do it to them first

I really do have an honest question for libshit voteblues, and it seems like it isn't an honest question because that's what I call them but it's merely an honest descriptor:

Anyway, two questions.

Question the first: If Republicans have managed to game the formal structure of the democratic system so that they threaten to end it each and every election cycle, and the proximate consequence is transition to a fascist dictatorship under God Emperor Trump and his Project 2025, then what the FUCK is the appeal of democracy supposed to be? Why are we supposed to fight to keep this system in place instead of inaugurating some other system that categorically excludes fascists from access to political power?

And closely related question the second: if you really believe, if you really, really believe that the Republicans are getting ready to send my family and me back to the plantations and open up death camps for every central American immigrant and Muslim in the country, then why aren't you moving to make the Republican party fucking illegal? Why aren't you firebombing their offices or assassinating their ideologues? Because that's what people have done in the past in similar situations and your insistence on simply forestaying their sweep into power until 4 years later is not commensurate with the seriousness of the consequences in imminent loss of life that you're claiming to believe is at stake.
