I would ask that you share the following quote on your blog & encourage mutuals to the same. I know that b99 is a liberal show written by a bunch of LA comedians but it’s important to also acknowledge the harm it causes. As a white woman with a large platform, not impacted by the widespread impacts of the show and police brutality in general, I hope you share, and emphasize this in your acknowledgment. Quote in subsequent ask:
“When we talk about how cop shows are propaganda that includes brooklyn 99. I love the show but the only way to watch it is to pretend it’s in an alternate universe. Allowing cop shows to occupy the same space as comedic office based sitcoms allows us to ignore the inherent violence in their jobs. pathologising police as heroes who bumble their way through life is directly related to how people view them irl. there are no good cops.” Quote from twitter user: @fopeolaleye I hope u & others share.
hey just wanna make sure you guys all know the difference between real cops and the cops on b99 and you aren’t using the 99 to justify some “not all cops” bullshit because it is a fictional tv show about fictional characters in a fictional police system and no matter how “woke” they may seem, there is NO valid comparison to cops irl
i always love how people who were in the b99 fandom when it got cancelled/revived always tell their story on the anniversary like it is a major historical event...where were you on may 10th 2018....i was scrolling through tumblr crying my absolute heart out and now we’re all chilling & looking forward to s8. all we do is win
I remember one time, a flashback with the Vulture, when he’s showing Amy the Vladimir Putin underwear and I make a disgusted face – I remember Mike Schur telling me “Your mouth makes a perfect upside-down U!” I was like “I didn’t even know my mouth could do that.”
