Considerations in Choosing Texts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As one of the characteristics that I've mentioned in my prior video, I believed that literature teachers must not only be critical but also knowledgeable in choosing appropriate texts considering the learners' language and vocabulary skills, background information of the text, and most of all, the overall theme of the text. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity because it allowed me to view a text from both the learners' perspective but also that of the teacher's.

LIT IN THE K - 12 CURRICULUM

In preparation for the writing our daily lesson plans and the mini demonstrations that will be held, this activity tests our understanding of literature curriculum present in both the K-12 curriculum and the MELCS curriculum by surveying specific aspects such as the curriculum's type, purpose/s, and the statements of the competencies particularly the specificity and broadness of these targets. I particularly enjoyed analyzing the competencies and giving my own suggestions on how to make these targets more comprehensible and clearer for literature teachers to use in their lesson plans.

"KSAVE"s OF LITERATUER TEACHERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This activity continues the trend in this course of building our identity as literature teachers. I enjoyed this activity because the first few tasks focused on our individual perception and beliefs of what a literature teacher should be. Alternatively, this task delves deeper to our understanding by specifying specific content knowledge, skills, and appropriate attitude that a literature teacher must possess and exhibit during their classes. This activity made me realize that a teacher, regardless of their specialization, has to consider not only in their lesson plans but also during the demonstrations of those plans in their classes.

MY CHARACTERISTICS AS A LIT TEACHER
When I was a first-year student here at Philippine Normal University, I only know that I want to become literature teacher. I never really thought about the necessary characteristics of a lit teacher because I believed then that it was enough to have content and structure knowledge in literature. Thankfully, my literature courses over these three years have taught me overwise. These courses emphasized that a literature teacher must always put the learners' needs and backgrounds in mind for them to meaningfully connect with the texts. I've also learned that I should always read critically because we don't always have to see eye to eye with the morals and themes that an author is reflecting in their works. Finally, I've learned that literature teachers have the power to influence and encourage learners to always take action in helping others and fighting injustice through the texts that we read.

THE "ME" IN A BOOK
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found myself quite nervous when my classmates began their presentations. As much as I enjoyed their selection of books and their creative ways of presenting themselves, I also felt anxious and dread because I'm a "carnivore" who only reads one type of literature particularly Young Adult novels. Despite my worries, I enjoyed my own presentation because this activity helped me realize the reasons why I read and love YA novels. One of my reasons being that I resonate personally with the main characters who often struggle with the person who they are and who they want to become. That said, I hope to use this activity in the future because I want my learners to not only become close with their classmates but also be loud and proud of themselves through the books they read.

August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd say that this one of the short stories that I enjoyed reading from the selection. It made me realize that we humans are egocentric creatures who think that we are the superior beings in this world. Well, we actually are, but it doesn't take away the fact that our life is fleeting. At the end of the day, nature is a formidable force that none can oppose, not even an automated house. On a personal note, this short story made me remember some of my past regrets such as putting down the violin, distancing from my former friends, and not appreciating those around me more especially my mother.

Sonnet 46: Mine eye and heart are at a mortal war
youtube
And on this corner, we have yet another love poem and this time it's from the golden boy himself, William Shakespeare. Man, these literary pieces are just teasing me at this point. Kidding aside, these love poems actually make me wonder what it's like falling in love with another person. ee cummings depicted love as something that he holds very true and dearly close to his heart; meanwhile, the persona in William Shakespeare's Sonnet 46 uses legal terminologies to express the tension between his heart and eyes. I wonder if I'll also feel like these persona when I fall in love.

ee cummings: [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In all honestly, this was probably my first time reading and experiencing a poem from ee cummings. This is also the first time that I've come across a poem that uses caesura or the creative use of symbols to convey meaning or emphasize a particular idea. Personally, I found the poem somewhat hard to understand and I jokingly told my groupmates that it was hard to understand because we haven't experienced love like the persona did.

Read and Draw: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The task for this activity is pretty simple. All we needed to do was to read William Wordsworth's I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud and illustrate the entire poem inside one manila paper. I had fun doing and interpreting this poem because this was one of the poems that I had the chance to interpret when I was in the ninth grade. Thinking back, There is a huge difference between my interpretations then and my current interpretation of the poem. This experience reminds me of my love of literature because my experience and interpretations varies everytime I encounter the same literary piece at different points in my life.
