Okay, so here's a bit more of an update besides me screaming about how i saw Jack 😂:
Jack is doing good! he's a little behind on learning how to bird because he was raised by a soft hearted human, but the other birds don't seem to mind teaching him and caring for him.
The main sparrow i see with Jack is a male sparrow that was super anxious to meet him when i set him free a couple days ago. He was feeding Jack and teaching Jack how to eat on his own! I think these two adopted eachother as parent and child 🤭
overall, Jack is happy and well taken care of out there! he's got his new found family and they welcomed him with open wings. It is unbelievably wholesome to see all these birds taking Jack in as their own and giving him the same amount of love and attention i gave him (if not more!). He was doing his happy wiggles that he does when he eats 😭💕💕💕
I couldn't be more proud of captain Jack Sparrow 🥺💕💕💕

Hey, if you've already released your sparrow unfortunately he does not have a very good chance of surviving on his own seeing as how he was hand reared. If you live anywhere they are invasive like the US it is also a crime to release.
Ya boy committed a crime ✌️😗 damn i knew sparrows were hated, but i didn't know their existence was illegal 👁️👁️
also i wouldn't worry too much about him not surviving, the sparrows around here are uncharacteristically kind and compassionate (something i saw in Jack too) and took Jack into their flock. i have seen them all flying around together, so Jack simply joined the flock. I assume they are teaching him how to bird.
in my last ask that i answered, i mentioned a robin nest of which had babies in it this year. well, on the same deck a bit away is a sparrow nest!
Usually Sparrows are destructive and destroy nearby nests for greater chance at survival, but theyve both been raising babies in peace for a while now! I would know, i keep a close eye on all the nests that have babies in them during spring. (in case i need to put fallen babies back in their nest)
And usually Sparrows cause property damage. but the sparrows around here find it much more fun to play in bushes and our piles of sticks we have set up!
the sparrows here are only noisy and adorable. This is most likely because they have plentiful access to food and supplies (i live in a more rural area). Here, they don't have to fight for food, they just have to survive the hawks and owls.
I feel like im obligated to say sorry or something for committing that crime, but it wouldn't feel right because Jack Sparrow is a happy free bird that is mingling with his found flock-family (of which hasn't been hurting the nearby crops, homes, or ecosystem because we keep them well maintained: they have large stick piles and bushes to mess with, the food here is already plentiful without the bird feeder im about to buy, and they arent overpopulating or being invasive).
The average Sparrow population may be considered pests, but the sparrows around here definitely aren't like that. they're just noisy, dramatic, and playful. they fit into the ecosystem without damaging it.

(Going off my ask from a day or two ago!) Coexisting with birds (and animals in general) is such an amazing feeling. You can really see such personality and dynamics between them. There are a few wild sparrows in my own yard that fly up to me because they associate me with birdseed, while others are more shy.
I hope Jack Sparrow is doing well on his own — if you see him around tell him the tumblr people say hi. :^]
Also, I’m curious to hear about what other birds you see in your yard (I see many starlings, a few doves and crows here) — and about the budgies you plan on getting!
— House Sparrow Anon
it really is! I've heard so many people talk about animals like they're nothing special or terrible, and I always think "wow youve really never been around any animals that trust you. that speaks VOLUMES ab who you are" 😂
even the wild animals like Jack have personality, and it's so cool to see it develop. Im doing grocery shopping tomorrow, so I'll be getting a bird feeder while I'm out too! i heard sparrows really like canary seed mix, so i have been putting some of that out for the birds. (thats so cool that the birds fly to you though! i hope to reach that level one day 😂)
I hope Jack is doing well too! The other sparrows seemed really excited to meet him! (im hoping it was friendly excitment. they didnt chase him or anything and weren't showing aggressive behavior, they seemed curious and welcoming) either way, I'm sure his bird instincts kicked in or a momma/papa bird took him under their wing. and if i do see him, i will definitely say hello for you guys! with the seeds ive been putting out, im sure I'll see him again.
on my back deck, we have a nest that has some robins that have raised a couple bunch of babies successfully (the second batch being this year! yay!)
I also saw a hummingbird yesterday when i set Jack free! coincidentally, hummingbirds symbolize joy, love, and good luck 🥺 other than that ive seen some beautiful red cardinals, blue jays, and woodpeckers!
As for budgies, i don't think i have a certain color budgie i would like. as long as the two i get are different colors bc i dont wanna mix em up 😅 I say two because budgies are flock birds, so i don't want to have a lone budgie, but i cant have too many either.
I think I'll visit my local pet store, check them out, ask some questions, and then take time prepare properly!

everyone was convinced Jack was going to die, but i was like "nah nah I'm not giving up. They already have a name, you see." 😂😂
oml that is a menace of a bird! now all i can think of is that one "BEHOLD, A MAN" joke 💀
almost got chased around the house by my step mom for bringing up getting a pet budgie bird not even 24 hours after releasing Jack ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

they really are 🥺 they're just so small, lovely, and cute, you can't help but love them and want to care for them even when theyre being a menace. Im still so glad i was able to take care of Jack so well, i spent most of my time asking the internet if i was doing things right.
oh no a bald bird with anxiety i hope he has a sweater to keep him warm 😭 its so funny when birds waddle and scream though once you get used to it
