Writing Update: May 10
Word count: 1,627
Excerpt:
Lance leaned over the railing again. “How is she up so early?” he whispered down. Archie stuck his head out. “Lance, we’re up early.”
Had a very slow start today, did not know where to take this story. This chapter is kind of weird so far but it did get me to a good place for next time because I have a pretty good idea of the following few scenes.

Writing Update: May 7
Word count: 1,366
Excerpt: “No, not easy-peasy,” said Gwen.
Finished off two different chapters that I was sort of writing simultaneously. Not as much time to write today so a shorter session. Planned out what happens next but I'm getting into the middle of the plot and I don't have much of a plan for this part. Such is the first draft life.

Writing Update: May 6
Word count: 2,642
Excerpt: The ring transformed with the fluidity of water. A sword burst out of his palm, forming a golden, geometric hilt, then a sharp, silver blade. It shone brightly in his hand as it settled into its final form.
Started slow but wow I hit my stride with this chapter! I got into some dialogue so that helped keep the scene going. Had to stop myself since I unfortunately have other things to do, but left myself some notes for what to do next time.
As much as writing a sequel is frustrating for the continuity (I keep having to open my old draft because I'm bad at keeping notes), it is also so much fun to bring back references to the events of the previous story - like today's excerpt! It's like a little easter egg for myself

The point of fiction is actually to put that guy in a situation™️, and he might try to tell you the point is to then get him out of the situation, WRONG, second situation

Writing Update: May 3
Word count: 1,532
Excerpt: Lady Bertilak was Sir Gawain’s downfall; she would need to make sure that Ines wasn’t Gavin’s.
Not as good a writing session, I'm just trying to power through and not think about it too much. Had some trouble getting into things so this took me much longer than I expected. Just tired and have a lot of work going on so I think the word count is going to really dip next week.

Writing Update: May 2

Excerpt: She paused for a moment, tilting her head to the side as she thought. “He doesn’t stay in character very much, but he’s great at capture the flag. Everyone wants him on their team.”
Started today off planning two concurrent chapters, just bullet points of what's going to happen next. Then started on one of those chapters so the word count is slightly inaccurate.

Writing Update: April 30
Word count: 1,895
Excerpt: Even though he knew what to expect, the flash of light still blinded him. It cracked like lightning in the empty space beside Morgan, as if someone had taken a rusty, jagged knife to the air itself, cutting through space and time.
I was going to end my writing session a little earlier but then I realized in order to help future me I needed to plan out what happens next, so the writing session continued. Didn't get to write for a few days with work and other responsibilities and I don't know how much I'll get to write in the next week either, so I'm grateful for these higher word counts! I think writing a sequel is making my draft 1 much easier because usually my daily word counts are not this high for early drafts.

Writing Update: April 26
Word count: 1,946
Excerpt: There were of course those who didn’t plan on joining an activity; they were still hanging around, chatting with friends, role playing with shopkeepers, and secretly filming dance videos behind the dining hall.
I really did not have the energy to write today (life is overwhelming) but I knew it would put me in a better mood so I went for it. Lots of rambling paragraphs and general summation here so the word count is nice and high. Not much actually happened but I got the words down and that's what counts. Planned out what happens next too (that'll be a next week problem).
