“You are running are pretty cool business there, I gotta admit. I’m kinda proud. Like I might tear up a little” she sighed happily, blinking a few times. She laughed for a moment, just letting herself enjoy the moment with her friend. She had been so busy with work that she barely had time for her friends lately. She was glad to be reminded she should always make time for the people she loved. “Yes, you. Don’t be silly” she narrowed her eyes at him. “I might pay you a visit there tonight if I don’t get home too tired. I don’t know what it is lately, but I swear I’m dead by the time I come home, and I just wanna take a bath and sleep. Is this what it means to be old?”
Tumblr media
"Why thank you,” Jordan told Madison, bowing his head in a curtsey. “You’ve got a pretty great business here as well,” he told his friend.
Tumblr media
Jordan laughed at her comment. “Hey,” he said, shrugging his shoulders. “I wouldn’t know. I’m not old.” He was older than her by a few years, but Jordan was young at heart and he always would be.

“You’re not wrong there” Michael smirked. He had settled down and had a kid so he wasn’t really in that phase of his life anymore but he definitely agreed with the other guy.
Tumblr media
“Well I’m on my way out but I hope you get lucky use them tonight”.
Jordan waved at the other as he was on his way out. “Will do, partner.” Jordan finished his drink and ordered another, eyeing up someone else at the end of the bar.

Rafael let out a slow sigh. He was a patient person, he really was. It took a whole lot to get him wound up at all but this was definitely not the kind of situation he enjoyed being in. Being a pretty private person, he didn’t generally open up to people about anything remotely personal until much later than most people. At this point though, there was also some mild stubbornness seeping in – he didn’t think this kind of chat-up would have worked even if he was attracted to anybody. And he didn’t exactly feel like pretending it would have.
Tumblr media
“I don’t believe the word no needs any further explanation or requires you to convince me of anything.” He said after a moment, pushing up his glasses in one swift motion before waving a hand towards the bartender. Slipping a few bills across, he shifted off his chair and gave the man next to him a tight smile.
“I’ll better get going. Nice talking to you.” And with that, and a nod, he made his way towards the door to get himself that Uber.
The man denied Jordan’s request, which was mostly a joke, because most everything in Jordan’s life he liked to make a joke. That’s how he was. That was his personality. The other handed over money to the bartender, gave a short smile and dismissed himself.
Tumblr media
“You as well,” Jordan said to the man as he turned, giving him a small wave. He wasn’t upset that the man had left. Yeah, he was damn good looking, but Jordan was used to being turned down time and time a again. He supposed the man didn’t sense his humor, or wasn’t as comfortable in his sexuality as Jordan was and that was a shame. Better out than in, Jordan thought. He was only upset that he had made the man feel uncomfortable.

Michael narrowed his eyes in confused before they widened in realization. “Okay” he burst out laughing, wondering exactly how many drinks. “That’s not what I meant but that’s good too” he added encouragingly.
Tumblr media
Jordan could tell from the other’s laugh that he was not expecting the answer he gave. Jordan knew very well what the question meant, but he was always one for cracking a joke when he had the opportunity.
Tumblr media
“A man’s always gotta come prepared,” he told his companion like he was giving him some kind of great advice. He chuckled slightly at his words as they had a double meaning he wasn’t intending.

“Yes, your drunks would buy anything you offered them. They don’t put up much of a fight. Some of them are pretty funny though. I’m glad you don’t attract that many creeps” she pointed out. That was one of the things she enjoyed about Jordan’s place. Sure, drunk people were the same everywhere, but for some reason she hadn’t encountered as many perverts as she had in other places. “No, I’m just messing with you. If anything, their business eyes are set out of the country. They don’t have time for silly bakeries or bars” she let out a chuckle, rolling her eyes. She scooped more cake, before adding,  “for some reason I’m hearing myself and it sounds kind of bitter, but I swear I’m not. I blame you, you’re bad influence.”
Tumblr media
“I’m not running just a bar, that’s why!” Jordan told her. Some places just attracted people who liked to drink. Overture House on the other hand, had entertainment and events. There was music most every day of the week, and the bar even had poetry nights, comedy nights, and displayed art from local artists that were for sale. People came to Overture House for the culture and the atmosphere... Though some did come for the booze.
Tumblr media
“Me?” Jordan questioned with fake anger. “A bad influence, no never. I would never.” He smiled and gave her a sly look. Jordan was most definitely  a bad influence.

At his confession, Araceli cannot help but laugh. It is not a mean laugh, as she is clearly not mocking him. Rather, the situation they are both in seems oddly entertaining (and what were the odds that the person behind her would also not know what to order?). She stares at the menu for less than a minute, trying to make sense of what looks best as she hums softly before turning back to him. “Alright. You know what? Why don’t we pick at random? Just. Choose a number, and whatever is on that line is what we’re getting?”
The idea sounds ridiculous, even to her, but it’s not like they have many options available to them, and better to make a quick decision and not hold up the line more than make no decisions at all. “Or. I mean. We could pick for each other, but that would be weird. Given my luck, you’ll end up having a food allergy I don’t know about and I’ll randomly pick the one thing you can’t eat off the menu. Plus, we don’t exactly know each other but, hey, that’s never stopped me from doing impulsive things before.” Not that a lot of her life had been guided by impulse (quite the contrary). But Araceli is sociable, and hungry, and quite frankly doesn’t know many people in Newshore so maybe this is just the perfect opportunity for her to meet someone new.
Tumblr media
The girl before him laughed and it was full of life. Her smile was wide. He laughed too. Then she suggested they choose an item on the menu at random. That sounded like a plan. Maybe Jordan could convince her to sit and eat with him after they chose their food. Quickly though she kept talking, rambling on about other ways that they could decide on food. He thought it was cute the way she kept going. Jordan patiently waited for her to finish before speaking.
“How about we choose something randomly,” he suggested. “We can share if they end up being something we don’t like.” Jordan turned to the cashier and gave his order. “How about a number six.” He pointed on the wall at the menu. “That portobello sandwich thing.”

franniejohnson:
They were kind of friends now, she guessed. Kind of because… well, as much as their dynamic as exes was different from most ex couples, that part of their past would always be there. If only she’d known then what she knew now Frannie is sure she could’ve gained herself a really good friend instead— and saved herself a lot of praying in the midst of make-out sessions too. But it is what it is.
Tumblr media
“Yes, I am,” she finally agreed, after the world’s biggest pause. She took a deep breath then and looked away, letting her hands fall into her lap. “And sometimes I think I would still be if it wasn’t for him.” The words came out a little grudgingly, but— that was right. That was perfectly fitting, if only because that was still the boy who cheated on her several times and who has always been in love with someone else. That was a very masochist thing to say, but between this and the father and daughter dinner she would have to go to tomorrow, this was a lesser degree of torture by far.
After a long pause that Jordan used to sip slowly on his drink, Frannie finally spoke. She must have really had to think about what exactly she wanted to say. Jordan really didn’t think that she had all that much to think about. They were exes. That was that. It was in the past and pretty much since high school Jordan had been perpetually single. It was almost fact, like the sky was blue; Jordan didn’t date... anyone, period.
Her comment ticked Jordan off a little. He cared for Frannie. Always had and always will. They had history. They were friends from a young age because of their parents. Sure he dated her in high school, but most every girl he ever dated had some sort of idea what they were getting themselves into. Jordan had always been the way he was now: promiscuous.
Tumblr media
“Really, Frannie?” he asked incredulously. “You’re gonna get mad about that now?” He knew they were probably fighting words but because of the alcohol he said them anyway. Honestly he probably would have said them drunk or sober. He also knew it was slightly hypocritical. Here he was wallowing in self pity about a boy he knew many years ago, and Frannie was basically doing the same damn thing. The difference he thought was that he and Frannie had at least made peace with their past together but that obviously wasn’t the case for her.

“If you’re sure”. Michael merely replied. He should have been on his way out already but stuck around a bit longer. Having a hard time getting out of work, he felt the need to add something. He couldn’t force the guy to do anything but it wouldn’t hurt to show some concern. “Just stay safe, okay?”
Tumblr media
“I’m sure. Thanks dude.” Jordan reached his hand out and patted the man on the shoulder. “I’ve got enough condoms to last me a few rounds,” he informed the man. “I’ll be fine.”

“I guess. I like it, though. I don’t think I’m quite ready to be a lawyer just yet. I like having a lot of work, but without a title that could get me in trouble. If I do something wrong, I still have a supervisor to go through. If I were a lawyer and do something wrong, then it’s my job on the line. So I think I’m good just doing what I’m doing for now. Maybe later on I’ll go to law school.” she said, looking at the man sitting next to her then down at her cup of noodles. She was mostly done. Despite being a Stanford University graduate and top three of her class, she didn’t feel the confidence needed to be a lawyer just yet. That, plus all the money that she would need to go to law school was too much. She hated having to rely on her sister and brother in law so much.
Tumblr media
“Good point,” Jordan said in response to the woman’s point that with more responsibility comes... well more responsibility in the situation when something goes wrong. “My neck is on the line when shit gets real. I don’t mind that though. Good leadership yields good results, in my opinion. Not so much the same with law, but...” he laughed, looking over at the brunette. “Good luck if and when you go to law school,” he told her with a smile.

“Um, not really. I just don’t – do this, you know?” That was the easiest way to go right now, anyway. When it came to this, Rafael wasn’t on a team. He wasn’t even on the field. He could appreciate sport from a distance and was glad others enjoyed it but it wasn’t for him. The hot dog stand seemed more appealing. But, he highly doubted a bar on a weekday night was the place to discuss his sexuality with a stranger. “Are you going to get home okay? I can call you an Uber.”
Tumblr media
“You not into dudes?” Jordan asked shamelessly. He had always been pretty out there about his sexuality. In high school he explored and found out what he liked (which was everything) but kept it toned down; his parents were a bit old fashioned and he worried what they might think of his untraditional and promiscuous ways. “It’s okay,” Jordan continued. “I like chicks too, but hey, I’m totally down if you do wanna see if you’re into this.” Jordan gestured down at his body. Generally he meant if the other wanted to see if he was into men, but specifically, Jordan meant himself.
Tumblr media
Jordan waved off the other’s offer for an Uber. He would be fine on his own. He wasn’t completely slurring his words yet and still coherent. He was good at drinking... Well in the sense that he could drink quite a bit and still get himself home. He wasn’t drunk enough to use his phone to request a fucking Uber. It was a nice offer though.

“That must be nice.” Mina said with a genuine smile. Being your boss sounded like such a good thing. Sure, it was definitely more work than most people thought it was and far more responsibilities, but how could it not be worth it? “I usually just do the dirty work in my company. I’m a paralegal.”
Tumblr media
“It is nice,” Jordan said honestly. He loved that he inherited his father’s business. He loved that he got to make way more money than his parents ever did because of the way he ran the business. He chuckled at her comment. “Hey, someone’s gotta do it right?” There was no shame in doing grunt work. If there weren’t people to do that stuff, Jordan wouldn’t be able to run a business that’s for sure.

Jordan chuckled quietly, noting how she stepped closer to him. It was funny because he was many people’s personal dealer, but not of stickers obviously. “Yeah, something like that,” he said. “So I’ll see you around then?” he questioned her as he put the stickers in the basket he was carrying and began to step down the aisle.
Tumblr media
Oriana bit the inside of her cheek for a moment and nodded. “Yeah,” she told him. “See you around,” she said softly, turning back towards the wall of stickers.

“Nice to meet you.” Mina said as she shook his hand. As the silence fell between the two, she continued to eat her noodles. She seriously needed to get home already so she could make some real food to eat. The noodles were only making her hungrier. When he spoke again, she nodded her head in agreement, again. “It’s nice to have time to sit down and enjoy it. Are you just getting out of work, too?”
Tumblr media
“Nice to meet you too,” he replied. “You could say something like that,” he told her. He was working before this... but it was not something he was going to talk about. “I own a bar,” he said instead. “But I can come and go as I please. I’ve got managers and stuff that do the dirty work for me,” he laughed.

“Of course” she laughed, taking a bite of her cake and chewing slowly as she mused. “Oh no, you’ve figured out my evil plan. That was the idea all along!” she gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth. She laughed, eating in silence for a moment.  “Well it’d be super weird to sell cake at your bar. You never know with Newshore though, I’m sure someone would consider investing in such business. I hear the Johnsons are looking for new things.”
Tumblr media
“Hey!” he said pretending to be offended. “I’m sure I could sell plenty of sweets to the drunks!” His voice trailed off... “But I’m not really looking for investors. I do well enough on my own, but maybe you should throw them the idea! Expand!”

“Not at all.” The brunette smiled as she looked at him, moving a little to make more space –as if the bench wasn’t already big enough for the two. It was out of habit though. “I’m Mina.” she said, holding the cup noodle in one hand and extending out the other to him.
Tumblr media
“Thanks,” Jordan told the girl, sitting down on the bench next to her. “I’m Jordan.” He took her hand and shook it. After he leaned back in his seat to get a good view of the park and the sky. He wasn’t sure what to say now, so he just sat there and looked out before them. “It’s a beautiful night,” he said dumbly though she had already commented on that fact.

For a second, Rafael just blinked at the other man as the meaning of his words sunk in. This wasn’t something that happened to Rafael often. Maybe the introvert in him showed enough to keep people from talking him, he wasn’t sure. And when it did happen, Rafael was usually prepared enough for similar situations to have a response ready. Now, however, he’d been so distracted by their conversation and his phone and the earlier hang-out with his friends that he hadn’t even thought this to be a possible outcome. He’d actually forgotten that some people were attracted to others. “Oh,” he responded, intelligently, at first. After a moment, he cleared his throat, pushed up his glasses in what was more of a nervous habit than an actual necessity. “That’s – um. That’s very kind but no, thank you.”
Tumblr media
The man looked confused. Jordan wasn’t sure why though. Was he not used to getting hit on? He was fucking gorgeous. Maybe he wasn’t used to getting hit on by men. That might be it, Jordan thought. “Oh,” he said once he seemed to realize the implication of Jordan’s words. Jordan watched as his pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. It was cute. He didn’t have much time to think about it before Jordan was being turned down.
“Swing for the other team then?”
