whilst i agree it's more of a problem of management over the programmers than the programmers themselves. management wants code done fastest and finding the most efficient way is not fast.

v v frustrating as a programmer. even in my classes we're taught the fastest way to code smth not the most efficient and it drives me nuts

we should globally ban the introduction of more powerful computer hardware for 10-20 years, not as an AI safety thing (though we could frame it as that), but to force programmers to optimize their shit better
