the album is brutally honest, satirical, a bit cringe here and there, depressing and experimental at the same time, I would not side eye anyone for saying "I don't understand this" or "this isn't my cup of tea" or even "what the fuck is this" because it's obviously not a 1989 or midnights kind of album for everyone. I understand why she said she "had to put this out" but while she is at the peak of her career, she released an album that is not for beginners nor really for overall critics, it's knees deep into the taylor swift lore and probably the most herself an album has ever been, that does not mean it is a masterpiece but it makes it so insanely special

#it would’ve been so easy for her to put out another simple little pop record and it would’ve smashed #but she’s clearly putting her all into stretching and growing her writing #and idk. #I don’t think the point of a piece of art is to be catchy and easy to digest. a lot of it is uncomfortable. #and the more I sit with it the more I love it #it makes me feel so seen #the anger that’s been repressed for so long spilling out #just. resonates so much with me rn when I’m processing my anger about how child abuse completely shaped who I am. #so seeing people be so cruel about it kinda hurts. I’m sure Taylor swift is fine but I’m just triggered idk

I stand before my fellow members of the Tortured Poets Department

With a summary of my findings

A debrief, a detailed rewinding

For the purpose of warning

For the sake of reminding

I had been struck with a case of a restricted humanity

Which explains my plea here today of temporary insanity

You see, the pendulum swings

Oh, the chaos it brings

Leads the caged beast to do the most curious things

Resentment rotting away galaxies we created

Stars placed and glued meticulously by hand next to the ceiling fan

Tried dimming the shine.

Tried to orbit his planet.

And in one conversation, I tore down the whole sky

Spring sprung forth with dazzling freedom hues Then a crash from the skylight

Bursting through

Something old, someone hallowed, who told me he could be brand new
