Remembering that time when I was in seventh grade at a c*tholic school and my class and I were put through an "acceptance retreat" at the adjoining church and part of the retreat was being made to watch the entirety of the execution scene from The Green Mile because apparently that was the only way the instructors could get across to a bunch of 11-13 year olds that we should accept differences in others and forgive people instead of taking justice into our own hands

Also thinking about how my mother - who is to this day a devout c*tholic - was traumatized from her early teens onwards by repeated sermons about the end of days and the final judgment of mankind, to the point that she now lives in a constant state of unmitigated terror at the reality of her own mortality and flinches every time more than two major disasters occur in the span of six months

But anyway chr*stianity is definitely not a cult that uses fear and lifelong trauma to coerce people into going along with the program
