via Batteries News -- ScienceDaily Metal-ion hybrid capacitors combine the properties of capacitors and batteries. One electrode uses the capacitive mechanism, the other the battery-type redox processes. Scientists have now scrutinized the role of anions in the electrolyte. The results reveal the importance of sulfate anions. Sulfate-based electrolytes gave zinc-ion hybrid capacitors outstanding performance and extra-long operability.

via Batteries News -- ScienceDaily Engineering researchers have found that alkali metal additives, such as potassium ions, can prevent lithium microstructure proliferation during battery use. They used a combination of microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and computational modeling to discover that adding small amounts of potassium salt to a conventional lithium battery electrolyte produces unique chemistry at the lithium/electrolyte interface, and modulates degradation during battery operation, preventing the growth of microstructures and leading to safer, longer lasting batteries.

Utah PSC slashes rooftop solar export rates, triggering doubts about residential solar's future there
Regulators denied PacifiCorp's requests for new fees and an 84% cut to the state's provisional solar tariff — but slashed the export rate anyway, which solar advocates say will add more uncertainty to a flailing market.
