How to Choose CSR Consultants
Tumblr media
As companies incorporate corporate social responsibility into their businesses, the value of working with a CSR consultant is not always clear.
In most cases, companies do not need to hire external consultants. For example, if you understand the social goals of your business, your communications team should be able to see the message. Or, if you've made CSR a HR priority, you don't need outside help to increase employee engagement or create volunteer programs. When you have the right NGO partners, it is best for your employees to improve relationships with these organizations.
But there are some exceptions. This includes areas such as supply chain social audits, environmental impact assessments and social performance measurement where third party verification/assurance is appropriate and required. In general, the aim is to build internal capacity for CSR whenever possible.
When demand for CSR consultants in Chennai decreases, supply increases. For example, a Google search for CSR consultants found more than 5,000 results in New York, 4,100 in London, 1,600 in Mumbai, 1,000 in Johannesburg, and 327 in Beijing. The options are now so great that companies that are new to CSR or need to improve their programs have a hard time choosing the right CSR consultant.
Here are six very important criteria to choose CSR Consultants in Bangalore:
1. Width of experience: Have you worked in different industries? Have you worked for companies and non-profit organizations? Have you worked for small and large companies? There are valuable cross-learnings that emerge from implementing CSR in various situations.
2. Depth of experience: There are many people who are enthusiastic about CSR and have started to give advice in this area. When choosing a CSR consultant, you need to balance passion with experience.
3. Diversity: Work with a CSR consultant who reflects the internal and external audiences you need to reach and influence. This means that consultants need to have access to a wide range of different opinions and people of different ages, genders and races.
4. Capacity building: The best CSR consultants attach great importance to unemployment. As described above, most aspects of CSR must be handled internally. Avoid consultants who over-promote.
5. Experience with social change: Academic degree and practical experience in business are not enough. CSR is about bridging the gap between profit and purpose. That means your advisor needs to understand how social change works.
6. Inspiration: You need to find a CSR advisor who inspires you to provoke positively and appropriately. Some of the best CSR consultants I know are also artists or musicians. (Another common trait is a passion for cycling!)
This list is not intended to cover certain aspects of CSR services, such as environmental sustainability or legal advice on climate change and emissions, where decisions are made almost entirely on professional and technical experience.
