"I'd prefer that you don't.  It's locked away somewhere safe and I don't want you trying to find it."  Len scowled at him.  This guy really liked to push his buttons and he was trying not to let him do it.  "I'm sure they will, once they're done making sure that its safe and won't blow up on you."  Okay, that wasn't the only reason.  There was a lot of things about the ship that they'd never seen and normally they wouldn't hold someone like this but he'd been hurt and they'd offered to fix whatever needed fixing on the ship.
He tried to ignore the sniffing.  It really reminded him of a wild animal scenting the air to make sure there wasn't danger.  Riddick would understand there was no danger here, as long as he behaved himself, and that no one would hurt him.  He must be used to being hunted if he had such strong instincts.  He looked up, brows furrowed.  "No, I haven't before.  Can you tell us where your planet was?"  Wiped out?  That explained a lot but what could've destroyed an entire species and why?
"We don't invade, we're explorers.  We want to meet new species, get to know them and try to understand them.  The Federation is made out of hundreds of different planets, all working together.  I'm sorry to hear your people are gone, they would've been interesting to meet."

He looked like Vaako. But Not-Vaako was warmer, not so pale-as-death. He did seem to have the same stick up his ass, which caught Riddick's eye. Seemed this 'verse had a grumpy Not-Vaako who needed harassing. And since he'd been sent off to die following Vaako's disappearance, it seemed fitting that he find someone to harass in his place. The ex-con approached the dark haired man and raised a brow. "Y'look like someone I know." Not his most original, but he didn't care.
Len kept a wary eye on the big man as he tried to run his tricorder over him.  The readings were very strange and he scowled as he tried to make sense of them.  Wherever this guy was from, it wasn’t from anywhere in the database and that made Len leery.  That and he looked like he could break anyone, except maybe Spock, without even breaking a sweat.
"I do?"  Len raised an eyebrow, finally setting the tricorder down.  "I feel sorry for whoever it is."  He swallowed but kept his spot, not letting the man sense any fear on him.  He hoped.  This guy looked like a killer.  "I’m Dr. McCoy and you are?"

*sighs*  I'm not trying to demean you, Jim, I'm trying to talk you out of it.  You know I can't really stop you and if you come to me wanting it gone, y'know damn well I'll help you.  I just don't want you to end up regretting it.

Because I can just imagine what kind of tattoo you'd get it and where you'd get it and then you'd come to me months later, begging me to get rid of it.  It's not worth going through all that.  You're not getting one.

Len let out a long sigh, shaking his head slightly.  "You've done your duty, you should be able to leave but if you're not going, I'm not going."  He watched Jim with concern.  He didn't like what he was seeing, how this was affecting his friend but there wasn't much he could do about it either.  "Can you at least sit down for awhile?  No one's going to judge you for that.  If they want to talk to you, then can come to you."
He doubted Jim would do that either and he muttered under his breath.  "I'd wring your brother's neck so god damn bad right now if I could."  Not that he could really blame Sam but dammit, it wasn't fair to Jim to put him in this position.  So he'd do what he could to help.  "Do I have to smack you?  You're not alone, Jim, you're never alone.  I'm here for you and you know that.  I wouldn't leave you to these wolves for anything."  Moving closer to Jim, he frowned as he saw Jim tremble slightly.  Putting his hand on Jim's shoulder, he gave it a squeeze.  "Come sit down and join me, okay?"

"I wouldn't know but I'll take your word for it."  It wasn't the first time they'd run across a ship in need of help but they'd never seen anything like the ship Riddick had been in.  Len was sure that Spock and the rest were crawling all over it, checking it out and trying to figure out where it'd come from.  He had his own ways of finding answers.
"I only share with friends and for medicinal purposes, neither of those fit you."  Riddick was trying to push his buttons, he knew that but he still couldn't help it.  The man was good at it.  "So, you're not going to tell me why you were out here?"  He glanced up at the biobed readouts.  "Because you're not human and you're not from any other species we've run across before.  So, what are you?"

Len gave the man a wary look.  The man was dangerous, it was easy enough to see but Len had a job to do and he wasn't going to let him stop him.  "I'm not who?"  He glared at Riddick.  "No, none that I'd share with you anyway."  No way in hell he'd give Riddick any of his good whiskey.  The tricorder finished its scan and Len read it over.  Mostly human but...there was something else...
"We're explorers, we've come out this far to see what there is.  Apparently, we found you."  Len set the tricorder aside and crossed his arms.  "What are you doing this far out into uncharted space?"  It was a guess but it didn't seem like Riddick belonged here, in this universe at all.  He couldn't explain why he had the feeling but he did.  "You should be lucky, I don't think your ship would've lasted too much longer if we hadn't come along."

Len caught both the Marshal and Jim's looks and he let go of his tricorder and gave them both his attention again.  Jim had to understand that they needed to know who these people were and they needed to do scans to figure that out.  The Captain didn't know about the odd readings he'd received and there was something up with Spock but what it was, he didn't know since he didn't dare ask.  As soon as they were done with the Lord Marshal, he'd find out.
He did catch what was being said though and he frowned slightly.  None of it made sense to him but he was sure Jim and Spock both had their own ideas.  Hopefully Jim could make them understand that they weren't enemies though Len was sure that these new people wouldn't see them that way.  There was something about them that made the hairs on the back of his neck raise up.  Hearing Spock doubt his readings, he gave the Vulcan a hard look before turning back to face the Lord Marshal as Spock continued.
His eyes went big as Spock's words sunk in.  Telepathic?  That didn't bode well at all.  "I think you're right."  He murmured back.  "I'd really like to get a better scan of some of these people, figure out what's different about them."  Were they going to get that chance though?  He felt uneasy here and he wished again that he'd stayed on board the Enterprise.

He'd been working hard, harder than he needed to but it was just the way he was.  It wasn't that he didn't trust the rest of his teams but it was just ingrained in him to do as much as he could.  There had been an accident in one of the botany bays and even though no one had been seriously hurt, there were a lot of bumps and bruises.  He was just finishing up with a patient when he was grabbed and dragged off to his office.  Giving Chapel a dirty look, he tried to protest as Jim manhandled him but he knew it wouldn't do any good and he finally gave in.
He couldn't help the yelp as Jim started to work on the knots, digging into them to try and break them down.  It hurt like hell and he tried not to squirm away though he let out a few choice words.  Jim was relentless though and the more he worked on them, the less they hurt until he could tell Jim was just gently rubbing his back.  It still hurt, the muscles and skin were oversensitive but he knew that after awhile it would fade to a light ache.  Feeling Jim's weight against his back, he snorted slightly and moving when Jim finally stepped away.
"Yeah, that feels a lot better.  You didn't have to do that, you know."  Sitting up, he rolled his neck and arms, already knowing by Jim's manipulation that it was better though he still felt tight.  "But thanks, I'm grateful."  Grabbing his shirts, he started to pull them back on, only feeling a twinge as he lifted his arms enough to slide the shirts down.

♜:Shoulder rubs
The strain’s easy to see in Bones’s back. His broad shoulders are high and tense, so stiff that Jim catches him flinching when he jerks around. When he glances at Christine she rolls her eyes, obviously sharing his frustration. Sighing, he drags Bones to the CMO’s office. ‘Sit the fuck down’ gets him a snappy complain but the doctor manages it eventually. Just because Bones’s mood is fouler then ever doesn’t mean Jim can’t get the response he wants.
Eventually he convinces the man to sit in his chair and lean his head foward onto his crossed arms, divested of his uniform shirts. It takes some maneuvering on Jim’s part, his feet wedged on either side of Bones’s torso, halfsitting on the small of the man’s back, but its easy enough to lean forward on his elbows and dig mercilessly into the tight knots along the man’s spine and shoulders.
Bones hisses and twists and shouts, redfaced, but Jim’s never been easily deterred. He graduates slowly to knuckles, and then the heel of his palm, just his thumbs… By the time he’s rubbing his hands gently over flesh for cooldown, Bones has ceased making any sounds louder than a murmur. The knots are still there, of course, some of them, but they’re broken into little clicks. Gently, Jim curves his forearm along the man’s back, a flat palm against his shoulder to slowly rotate his arm, checking the broader range of motion. It’s not amazing but it’s better.
Tired, he stretches over Bones for a minute, soaking in the man’s heat with his cheek against the back of his neck, lightly running his hands up and down the man’s arms. He climbs out of the chair gingerly, pinpricks of discomfort in his legs, but smiles as he turns and watches Bones sit up slowly, rolling his own shoulders back. “Feeling better?”

Len stared at Spock, surprise easily seen on his face.  He had never the Vulcan lose control like that, especially around them and he wasn't sure how to handle it.  It really must be bad for Spock to lash out like that.  He tensed as he heard the plastic creak but then Spock seemed to deflate and he let the tension slowly leak out.  This wasn't easy for Spock to talk about and Len looked over at Jim.  Shock was on Jim's face too so at least Len knew it wasn't just him.
"We're not going anywhere, not for a long time hopefully.  If you need to go home, we'll figure out a way for you to go home."  He watched as Jim agreed, then nearly ran out the door and he let out a hard breath.  "You know we just want to help."  He turned towards Spock.  "We can't do that if you shut us out."  He held his hand up before Spock could say anything.  "We know there are some things you don't like to talk about that and we respect that but that doesn't change the fact that sometimes we need to know about them if we're going to be together."
He scratched the back of his neck.  "Jim's going to get you to New Vulcan, I'm sure.  You know he'll do anything he has to to make it happen.  If you don't want me to help you, then go see Geoff.  He'll know what to do until we can get there.  Just know that when you're ready, we'll be more than happy to listen to whatever you want to tell us.  I've got to get back to work, there's things I need to get ready."  He reached out, wanting to touch Spock and then pulled his hand back.  Spock wasn't up to being touched right now.  "Just don't shut us out."

Another Seven Years
“That is not my home!” Spock snapped and then blinked as if he was uncertain the voice that cracked in the room had been his. He was afraid. Afraid of the violence he was capable of. Afraid of turning that toward one of his t’hy’lara. Afraid that they would toss him aside as he been before.
His fingers tightened on the back of the chair he’d been sitting in for the meeting. The padding dimpled and then the plastic beneath cracked from the pressure of him focusing his anger on his fingers and not his friends—or himself. The sound bounced off the walls of the silent room, and Spock wrenched his hands away and backed into the wall.
“My home is gone. My…everything…you…” His dark eyes locked with Jim’s and then Leonard’s. “It is Pon Farr.” He felt such shame for saying the words to them that his cheeks flushed, causing him to blush viridian beneath the pallor of his skin. His hands were shaking as were his words as he continued. “Please forgive me. I cannot control it. There is nothing I can do. I need to get to New Vulcan. What I need is there.”
He hoped.

Len let out a snort, trying to turn his head to look at Jim but the younger man was too close and he just rolled his eyes instead and finished his glass, holding it out so Jim could fill it again since his other arm was full.
"Dr. Prickly?  You think I'm a cactus or something?"  He was teasing and shrugged his shoulder.  "Lets not get carried away there, Jimmy.  I might be a doctor but I'm not hot."  He managed to find his mouth with his glass, drinking half of it in a single swallow.
"M'only snuggly with you.  Kinda hard not to be, you don't let me be anything else."  It was true, Jim was so damn clingy that Len had to be comfy for the other man.  Not that he really minded.  "If you weren't such a damned octopus..."  It was said with a smile.

[ Perhaps it didn’t last long to Bones, but Jim had already started drinking before he even returning to his room. So, by the time the doctor was a little tipsy alongside his roommate, Jim was already giggling and hiccuping and wrapped around his closest friend, trying to nuzzle as close as possible.
Well — at least he ended up back home to finish his drinking, rather than calling Bones to come pick him up in the middle of a dive bar somewhere. ]

"I last as long as I need to, not m'fault you started without me."  Len grinned, not minding how much like an octopus Jim was when he was drunk.  Not that he was much better, keeping an arm around Jim's waist to make sure the younger man didn't fall over.  That's why, really!  At least it sounded good in his head.  "You could've waited for me, y'know."  He took another long swallow and set the glass aside, leaning back against the wall.
Only he was further forward on the bed then he thought and he thumped his head against the wall, causing Jim to fall against him more.  "Sorry 'bout that."  He chuckled, trying to sit up and giving up after a few minutes.  It was better half-laying down, the room didn't spin as much.

Len watched Jim as he pretended to be happy.  He knew Jim too well to be fooled and he could tell that the other man's heart wasn't in any of this.  Glancing up towards the single lit window, he frowned.  He didn't know what had gone up there and even though Jim had tried to explain it all to him, he didn't really get it.  This was stupid and he hated that either man was going through this, especially Jim.  This was going to tear the younger man apart and he hated the family for forcing this on him.
There was nothing he could do about it though and he finished his drink and the one the took from Jim, leaving both empty glasses on the table next to him.  Leaving the comforting shadows, he braved the crowds himself and made his way slowly back to Jim's side.  "You know, I can make up an excuse and get us both of of here, if you want."  He said quietly when he finally caught Jim alone.  "You don't have to stay."
Jim would though out of obligation and Len would stay with him if he needed it.  "We can take a walk around the grounds if you need some fresh air."

He would never have subjected Spock to Christine's brand of investigation but he had hoped Spock would've been a bit more receptive to the whole thing.  Oh well, he knew when to let a joke go and that was now.  He'd needled the Vulcan long enough.  "Alright, I'll go and do my paperwork, I just thought you'd like to have some company since you've been holed up in here so long.  A break once in awhile is a necessary thing, even for you.  I needed a break too, that's why I thought I'd come see you."
He heard the thunk of the tea landing in the garbage can and he sighed to himself.  That'd teach him to try and tease the Vulcan, couldn't take a damned joke.  Standing up, he gave the other man a look before heading to the door.  "By the way, I didn't stalk you and I didn't ask the clerk what tea to get you.  Kind of hard to avoid knowing it when you drink it every damned day. You might want to rethink throwing it away."  With a nod, he went out the door wishing he could look back to see the expression on Spock's face.

Coffee, Tea or....
“I assure you, Dr. McCoy, that I am not in the market for a romantic partner. I have no interest in finding out who the gift is from, and I would appreciate you not turning this over to Nurse Chapel as it would cause unnecessary gossip.” Spock was growing increasingly annoyed by the subject period. He had no desire for romance. He had attempted fraternization with Lieutenant Uhura, and it had not gone well. He had also failed in his marriage, and none of any of his past failures was anything he wanted to discuss with McCoy.
“Now,” he said turning in his seat and dropping the tea into the trash receptacle beneath his desk. “I believe it would be more efficient for you to send me a proper request for the supplies you require. It seems illogical for you to go over a list of this and that in your head while I wait to type your list into the computer. I have reports and requisitions of my own to deal with if you will excuse me.”

"Good thing that we have plenty of pregnant and non-pregnant tribbles to study."  It was almost a joke, how there was a never-ending cycle of the damn things.  It would be funny if it weren't so damned serious.  "I don't like the idea of asking Starfleet for help but I don't think we have much choice either, this is turning into an epidemic."  At least no one was getting sick but if this kept up, the ship itself was going to start breaking down.  He could almost hear Scotty right now.
"Subjecting some innocent planet to those things isn't viable either but you're right, I don't know if we'll have much of a choice either."  Not agreeing with Spock might be a joke between them but when it came to something like this, he was glad that the Vulcan could look at it subjectively.  They both needed clear heads for this, they needed to look at things logically and there was no one else he would trust more than Spock in that regards.
"We can't leave them to over-run the planet, so even if we do leave them off somewhere, we still need to stop them."  Letting out a long sigh, he picked up one of the trilling things and looked at it thoughtfully.  "Lets get to work then, I think we're going to be at this for a long time."  Good thing he'd slept well last night, he wasn't going to be getting much for the next few days.  Standing up, he gestured to Spock.  "I've got everyone in medbay on shift to help out, figured they could eat and sleep in shifts shorter than usual.  Jim's going to owe us all shore leave after this."  He headed for the lab where the tribbles he'd been studying were stored.
logicallyemotional
All the tribbles!
"Given that the tribbles are typically born pregnant, I believe if we were to take a sample of their blood and analyze it, we will be able to determine what hormones are present to indicate their pregnancy. From there we can effectively device a sterilizing compound to infuse into grain for them to eat after their capture. We can then do a scan to monitor their hormone levels to see if our compound has had any effect."
The plan was shaky at best, but aside from beaming directly into the cold vacuum of space there was little else to think up in a timely manner. “I believe we should consider requesting assistance from Starfleet in regard to this issue if we are unable to handle the matter on our own. Perhaps it would be best to quickly find an inhabitable planet suitable for their biological needs and ridding ourselves of them that way.”
Honestly, he thought that might be a better plan than what they were considering. The only problematic factor was the time required to do so. Then again, if they planned for that while working toward their own solution, they could be over a planet to beam the tribbles on to by the time they realized they needed to take that route.
