This. So this. My parents fall into this trap of thinking from time to time too. They always say they didn’t spend much money when they were young, no treats etc., yet I was having a conversation with my mum the other day about what I take into work for lunch with me and she just said so offhand ‘oh we used to go the cafe down the road every day when I was in my 30s’. And I was like wait whattt??? To which she said ‘oh it was cheap, it was only just this little cafe, nothing special. But now even just the little independent cafes down the road are expensive. No one could just afford to go there every lunchtime. I don’t have a single colleague who goes out to buy lunch instead of bringing in food from home. That’s the thing, previous generations did spend money, did buy commodities which could have been cheaper, but they were so cheap already they could afford it and didn’t need to think about it. They could afford the coffee, just as they could afford the house. Just as they could afford to go watch their football team every weekend instead of spending a fortune on streaming the matches because even that is still cheaper than a ticket. Rant over.

Whatever you did with your day, I know mine was better because it involved eating McDonald’s fries in Aunt Mimi’s front (best) room.
I quite literally felt her turning in her grave, but I hope it gave John a laugh!

“We tried to think of a number to finish off with so I can get out of here and be sick, and we thought we'd do a number of an old, estranged fiancé of mine, called Paul.” John Lennon, 1974
This continues to be bonkers, by the way. The quote itself, the use of the word fiancé, the choice of song. And the fact that Elton is happily all up in the Lennon-McCartney madness. Then there’s that extra layer of Paul serving as intermediary for John and Yoko’s reunion.
These incredibly straight men and their incredibly straight marriage to each other. Tell me more about your engagement, Johnald. When do you consider yourselves affianced?

Has anyone ever thought, yes each day that passes is another day Paul has lived without John. More than 40 years and counting…
But, each day that passes brings Paul closer to the day on which, he believes, he will be with him again.
And yes, on that day we’ll all be fucking heartbroken, but surely this will be the only thought which will bring any of us any comfort, right?
Excuse me while I scream into the void

Not to be dramatic, but have I ever told you that I love Paul McCartney? As in, that I utterly utterly adore James Paul McCartney? That I love him to the very marrow of his bones? That I love him from the top of his, once dark brown now silver haired, head to the very tips of his toes? That I love him not in spite of his downright weirdness, but because of it? That I love him so much I no longer know what my joy, or my comfort, are without his music? That I will love him until the last moment I draw breath?
I have?
Well I’m doing it again because I haven’t told you enough.

I’ve always always thought Get Enough is about John. To the point where, when he says ‘girl’ right at the end, completely without reason because the song works absolutely fine being genderless, if I’m listening to it in my car I shout ‘Paul, you chicken!!’
Has Paul ever used the phrase “now and then” in any of his songs post johns death? especially considering it’s ties to the last thing John ever said to him I’m sure that’s part of the reason he’s had such a strong connection to this John demo
Well, you’ve got me stumped there, anon! I’m not an expert on Paul’s solo stuff, so the short answer is, I don’t know. But if what Carl Perkins said was true, I’m sure it adds to the meaning for him.
It certainly adds to the meaning for me!
