Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, starring Janhvi Kapoor, will be filling the Independence Day slot left vacant by ‘deshbhakts’ Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, thanks to the lockdown.
Gunjan will be out on an OTT platform on August 12. The film, which was initially designed for the big screen, with shoots in Georgia after the location was changed because of the Kashmir situation, opted for the digital route, as movie halls have been shut for over four months due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The film is a patriotic story and everyone associated with it felt that the Independence Week was the best time for its release. The Sharan Sharma-helmed biopic revolves around the life and the wartime efforts of Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena who, along with Srividya Rajan, became the first two Indian women fighter pilots to enter the war zone. Gunjan’s job was to save soldiers from precarious positions and bring them to safety during the Kargil War in 1999. The officer was later honoured with the Shaurya Vir Chakra,” say sources.
The film also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in supporting roles as Gunjan’s father and brother, respectively along with Viineet Kumar, Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza.
Janhvi’s cousin and budding actress Shanaya Kapoor is an assistant director in the film as well.

Sobhita Dhulipala’s career graph has been on the rise ever since her debut film Raman Raghav (2016). With great work across mediums, she is now looking forward to another commanding permanence in her upcoming film, Major.
Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, the film, a biopic of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, stars Adivi Sesh. This is the second time Sobhita is working with the actor and director, after Goodachari.
“Apart from the familiarity and trust I share with the unit, the story has been well articulated. I read about Sandeep Unnikrishnan a lot, and the way his life is being portrayed, it is like humanising a hero,” explains Sobhita, adding that her role in the action thriller has a lot of depth.
“I am naturally drawn to characters that are more layered. In Major too, the emotional arc my role goes through is very heartening. I can’t talk much about my role but it is something that I had to handle delicately,” shares the actor who did her research to understand the people around her character. Since the film is bilingual (Hindi and Telugu), Sobhita is glad that she’s able to speak her mother tongue (Telugu).
“I am comfortable in both languages, and Telugu is always close to my heart,” she says. Perhaps not many know that Sobhita is a Telugu girl born in Vizag.

Actress Varsha Bollamma tells us that the makers of the new venture Choosi Choodagane approached her after watching her Tamil film 96. She then shared with us why her role in the new film gets her nervous.
“I play a drummer and a music director in the film, and I don’t have any idea about drumming. So even as I was a little nervous about the role, the director and producer shared with me that they were confident about me picking it up,” she says, adding that she learnt the basics of drumming from a band. Varsha has previously done a few Malayalam and Tamil films. “Yes, in Tamil, my role Gayatri in Bigil, which stars Vijay sir, brought me some good word,” she says.
Then talking about how much she’s learnt from Vijay, she says, “He is very reserved and silent off the camera, but in front of the camera, he is very energetic and completely focussed on his role.”
Talking about her Telugu film, Varsha states that all characters in the story get equal importance.
“Everyone thought that the film is a love triangle, but it is actually about something else. You have to watch it on the screen to know,” she says, teasingly. Varsha will play the same role as she did in 96, which was remade into Telugu as Jaanu.
In the meanwhile, Varsha has also signed another Telugu film opposite Anand Deverakonda. “I have to sing a song and the character speaks in a complete Guntur slang. Initially, I was doubtful that I could take it on and to pull off that role, but the director later decided to dub for my role, so I did that film,” she says, who is now trying balance between Tamil and Telugu films.

Hacked is the story of a young boy’s obsessive love for an older woman. The film explores the toxic facets of the virtual world and its impact on people and their privacy and releases on January 31.
