Illwynd: language geek, ficcer, cosplayer, weirdo. Mostly Marvel and mythology. It's all Thor/Loki here. I like tricksters and those who put up with them. I also like folk metal. Transplant in SoCal. I miss the rain.

It's unhinged to assume that someone's taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.
That is a bonkers assumption to make.
I'm tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.
I'm tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold-- that they should be afraid of fiction's dire influence on a reader's moral decay or that it's a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.
The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”
i got to speak at least a tiny little bit of Finnish with Jonne and Sami and express appreciation for how they're doing more songs in Finnish these days. Jonne was pleased at that and said it's his "feeling language." which, <3 i love that
Sami said my pronunciation was good and he could understand me. I guess that means my grammar sucks but not enough to become incomprehensible XD
So my backpatch is a Korpiklaani patch, and when they were all checking out my vest, it uhhh. it turns out my backpatch is bootleg. they were saying they'd have to steal back the design that somebody stole from them lol oops.
They played Happy Little Boozer and Ievan Polkka and Wooden Pints and Sanaton Maa and Vodka and Beer Beer and aaaaaaah so many other good ones. a dozen years ago I saw them for the first time and danced in the pit to Happy Little Boozer and felt Loki's presence as tangible as someone perching their elbows on your shoulders. It was great to get into the pit to that song again.
There's nothing like a folk metal pit. No other pit can you link arms with your new pal and spin each other around in wild drunken folk dance XD Or link arms with a dozen other dudes and form a big circle and whirl around the pit like that.
by far the harshest truth ive ever had to come to terms with is that many people genuinely have absolute dogshit taste and that is, technically, not a crime
