reihern ("to heron") = to puke
dackeln ("to dachshund") = to walk slowly
aalen ("to eel") = to bask
vögeln ("to bird") = to have sex
einigeln ("to hedgehog in") = to curl up
hamstern ("to hamster") = to hoard
schlängeln ("to snake") = to wriggle
stieren ("to bull") = to goggle
unken ("to toad") = to gripe, augur doom
tigern ("to tiger") - to walk tigerishly

Saw a video about how Duolingo works and apparently the weird sentences are made by actual people on purpose, because 1- it's fun, 2- something unusual is easier to remember and 3- even if you're not gonna use "the bear talks with a lawyer" in real life you're probably gonna remember the grammar structure when using actual sentences. So whenever you see a Duolingo phrase that maker you go "WTF?!" Know that someone probably had a lot o fun adding it to the app

When I learned German, listening to German music regularly really helped me get used to the sounds and patterns of the language. I'm trying to learn Spanish and Chinese now and need band/artist recs!
In English my top artists are (in order): Florence + the Machine, Bastille, Autoheart, Young the Giant, AJR, Hozier, Lorde, OneRepublic, Wrabel, Dodie, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Watsky, Sigrid.
In German my top artists are (in order): AnnenMayKantereit, Alligatoah, Casper, Tonbandgerät, Von Wegen Lisbeth, Gisbert zu Knyphausen, Marteria.
What do you think I would like in Spanish and Chinese? (More German recs could also be useful for practice.) (And if there's something in English you think I should be listening to I guess you can tell me that too lol)

one of the best things about having learnt irish (even if im not good at it) is how much its helped me in other languages
for example, chinese and its lack of "yes" and "no" has never been an issue, since the way it works is exactly like irish does ! (also in the irish dialect of english we dont use "yes/no" much anyway - we also just repeat the verb as in the native language)
idk i think its amazing how despite my struggles learning irish, it has helped me in ways i never would've thought
