Dearest Rogue,
I am not certain when or even if this letter will reach you. I wanted to make one more stop before returning to Tyria for your upcoming wedding, and I journeyed with some Priory Scholars to see the great Astralarium of the Isles of Istan. Unfortunately, it seems I am stuck here, for the word came out that Palawa Joko has struck down the wayward god Balthazar, and in the chaos that has followed, it seems the entire Isle of Istan is in revolt. The servants of Joko have locked down the island to deal with the rebellion and unless I can find a pirate to smuggle me out of here, it seems I am trapped, and will miss your wedding.
Do not fear for me though, I am perfectly safe in the Astralarium! I am doing my best to learn the reading of the stars, as it turns out the library is rather unfortunate with its information. I have tried to learn what I can of history and magical studies but the history here is highly revised. I have attached an excerpt of a reading I discovered on my own people which is a theory so wildly implausible I don’t even know where to start with it.
Propaganda dressed up as history. Poetry commissioned to appease the powerful, disguised as fact. That’s the biggest threat to me here.
I love you, Rogue, I am sorry again my curiosity has lead me where you cannot follow.

Appendix A. A History of the Mysterious Sylvari by O. Derzhen
It is a well known fact that our illustrious leader, Palawa Joko (praise Joko) was the slayer of the dragon menace, Mordremoth. What many scholars of Elona wonder now though is why his wrath did not extend to the children of the Jungle Dragon. Since the seas have cleared of the pathetic Risen following Joko’s first dragon-slaying, many outlanders have been travelling through his lands, including the plant creatures who call themselves ‘sylvari’.
What is known is they are grown from a great tree upon the Tarnished Coast, a sentient creature that the sylvari consider their ‘mother’. The true history of their origin, however, seems unknown to them.
The truth is that the Palawa Joko, wisest of rulers, long foresaw the coming of Mordremoth. Many centuries ago, it was he who stole a seed from the sleeping dragon and imbued it with his divine power, thus, clearing the weaker Dragon’s spell from it. He then planted this seed and waited for it to grow to fruition, to oppose the Jungle Dragon with his own foul weapons when it finally awoke. These sylvari’s attempts at fighting Mordremoth distracted it’s lesser minions that Joko simply did not have time to slay himself, and gave him a more leisurely time with which to kill their former master.
In many ways, the powerful Joko is a father to these sylvari, for their mother would not have existed without his gift. They should come to serve him just as all creatures should, for all are gifted beneath his majesty!

Ella hastily sent her excited reply.
Rogue,
I am overjoyed to hear you’re getting married again! And I know what a bridesmaid is, I have read about it in The Wedding of Captain Fabio, the fifteenth book in the series where he is tricked into marrying a Krait witch and Princess Paula was made into a bridesmaid to torment her. Although I am hoping your wedding will be better than that.
I will finish my experiments here (the Brand to the south-east is fascinating!) and ride north with haste. I must admit I am curious what wrong could ripen to evil from a wedding, but knowing you something terrible is afoot and you will need people by your side.
-Calla Lilly
P.S. I am allowed to not wear shoes at this wedding right? I can wear one of the long gowns so nobody notices.

My sweet Calla Lily of the Dragonslaying variety,
Do show up to Mister Mirage’s atelier in Salma in two days’ time at four past midday.  There are gowns for you to try on for my upcoming nuptials.  I picked vibrant greens that match your fronds, and opted for planty designs just for you.  I’ll explain the whole ‘bridesmaids’ thing to you later.  It’s probably not what you think.  But as Ventari’s taught us, where life goes, so shall you!  It’ll make sense later.  And if anyone questions the whole wedding dilemma given the date and all that, just…ignore the fifth tenet on the Tablet and don’t judge me.
May the stars light your path,
~Rogue Rose

Old Frenemies
Ella reappeared back in her office Olivia’s refuge in a cloud of ether shards and butterflies, still covered in mud and her own golden blood, sword hung loosely in her hand. The tip of her sword was still stained by the blood of her foe. A lucky hit, only scored with outside aid.
She had come face to face with Kashti many times since they were openly enemies. But this was the first time she had dueled him. And she learned, horrifyingly, that she was no match. Her wounds ached. She knew she should pick herself up, search for Laurie and Aesielde in the Caledon Forest, or try to find Lux wherever it was she ended up after her hasty teleport spell.
But all she did was slump onto her couch, mud, blood and all, and fall soundly asleep to dreams plagued by a man in a ram’s head mask.

⊗ for Ella
1.  Lux is convinced she dreamed Ella up and somehow it connected to THE Dream and thus Ella was sprouted.  She also thinks Ella’s pod came from her in some weird freak accident that no one should ever go into detail about.
2. Somewhere in the Maguuma jungle there is a cave filled with mirrors that belonged to Lux and now are property of Ella.  For reasons.
3. Lux has been secretly feeding Ella’s stolen adopted child wee baby Siobhan proper not-goat-milk behind Ella’s back.

Ilamerva appeared in a flash of butterflies over the prone form of Clara Tenevera, left in the street to rot. And rotting she was, the first traces of a curse already showing their signs. She didn’t hesitate. She scooped the bleeding human up in her arms and teleported with all her might back to Olivia’s Refuge, and rushed her patient to the Green Place.
As she ran into it’s main temple, she dropped to the floor with Clara and quickly began applying first aid, pouring potions and applying poultices. Guards, reacting to their Loremaster running into their safest place with a bleeding body in her arms, quickly came running. Before they even had a chance to react, Ella barked orders at them.
“Go! Find Lux! Now! Tell her what happened, Clara’s been attacked,” she pointed at another, “You, come help me stabilise her.”
Her first aid applied with the aid of the obedient guard, and the wound treated, Ella stood upright, waving a hand over Clara’s body, shards of ether surrounding her hand, launching purple sparks at Clara’s body. They flew off, and Ella frowned, and tried it again. Same result.
“I can’t purge this magic on her. I’m going to try and find something that can. Guard her. She’s not to leave here until Luxelen sees him.”
The guard nodded. Ilamerva again teleported, leaving behind only shards and sparks of ether, and many purple butterflies.
(( @luxelen poor clara got stabbed im sorry ))
Stabbed right in the friggin’ face

It’s almost like the world was in some distant place. Maybe she was already vanishing, fading into the Mists, she wondered. Susie was pushed into the waypoint. Did she do that? She couldn’t tell. She was pretty sure all this blood was hers. She blinked. She swore the necromancer had moved. Did she blink for longer than she thought?
The man reached down and grabbed her face. The stab wound in the bottom of her jaw flared into new pain. She could barely hear what he said. Tell Lux, he said, that he wants the children? His child? His child. A message.
The last thing she saw was him walk away.

☯- A secret life
“A secret life? What a curious concept. Most things I do are secret, but also, not really secret. I suppose I have seen the threads of time and know of possible lives that are secret? Although they’re not really secret. See, although only I know of them in this timeline which, is, in essence, the entirety of existence from the point on that it actually happens, but in the timelines where it is possible it’s not secret because everyone knows, it’s merely secret because... hold on let me get this whiteboard set up and we’ll do this properly.”

❀- A dream/desire
((I already answered this but I’ll do another!))
Tumblr media
“You know, and this is a dangerous opinion, but knowing of our origins now... it’s kind of exciting. I mean yes, I’m a dragon minion gone wrong, but by the stars this means we can understand so much more about ourselves! Perhaps even learn to adapt the powers of the Mordrem for our own ends! What if we can take whatever natural purpose of magic regulation the Elder Dragons’ voracious consumption serves and put it in the hands of our people, a people sentient and respectful of life’s beauty? Oh how I long to learn more about the relationship between our people and the Mordrem! I just... really can’t tell people about this research. I don’t much like the idea of being lynched, you understand. It’s too soon. Yes. Too soon. I have a child to think about.”
