The show wasn’t meant to be controlled by a soulless corporation, it’s for misfits and missing puzzle pieces and should be carried by such.

Reasons to Watch The OA and Save a Magical Story
if you haven’t watched The OA please do because netflix has decided not to renew it for season 3 and there’s a limited window to change their minds. Please there are so many reasons to watch it;
* Incredible, in depth story that takes you on so many twists and turns by the end of it you don’t know what to believe or expect (in a good way)
* Sensitive and accurate portrayal of the effects of trauma and mental illness. This is actually what attracted me to it in the first place
* Using those issues to instill a sense of unity and empowerment throughout the series
* A diverse cast that does an amazing job with all the characters
* Lovable and interesting characters with friendships and relationships that will warm your heart
* The cinematography and soundtrack are out of this world
* It’s an indie project primarily written by Brit Marling, a really cool lady who loves writing and acting in sci fi. If for no other reason, watch it to support women in sci fi, especially since Brit really is incredibly talented
* One of those series that is so full of fantastic story that you can only give the most basic of summaries from the first episode without spoiling the whole thing (”A blind girl has been missing for years, when she comes back, she can see.”)
* It’s a Netflix original and if Netflix keeps cancelling these original artsy indie projects because of lack of viewership that means no more of these indie projects
* Watch it to support original indie projects on streaming services if nothing else. Shows like The OA and Santa Clarita Diet being cancelled sets a really sad precedent for the future of streaming

This is what I think at this point too. It’s a soft cancel to see what happens while also letting us, the audience members deeply invested, serve as a free viral marketing campaign to drum up views/subscriptions from people who haven’t watched the OA yet but are interested in what all the fuss is about.
And that’s... really fucking annoying, since Netflix didn’t bother to do its own marketing for the show.
But at the same time, if it means saving the show.... Well. My love for the OA far exceeds my dislike of Netflix and their shenanigans.
reddit(.)com/r/TheOA/comments/cnuwfv/netflix_has_not_decided_on_cancellation_yet/ !!!
It seems that the original post has been removed from Reddit, but I have heard lots of commotion about Netflix having not truly cancelled The OA.
Here is my take:
I think Netflix doesn’t want to invest any more in The OA. Maybe they tried to low ball Brit and Zal? Maybe Netflix put an unacceptable offer on the table and said “take it or leave it”… and for the integrity of the show maybe Brit and Zal walked out of the room.
If that’s the case, I hope they did. I hope B&Z honored the integrity of the narrative enough not to water it down into a final mini-ending like what happened with Sense 8. If Netflix can spend $200mil on D&D, they can afford to pay Brit Effing Marling what she’s worth.
Anyways. I digress…
Netflix is savvy enough to do a “soft cancel” and see what happens. That way they still have room to backpedal. I believe that’s what’s happening right now. And that’s why I believe all our actions truly matter.
The show is dead. Make no mistake. But nobody has cleaned up the body yet. Our beloved show is like Scott bleeding out on the floor, and Netflix is like Hap, blaming us and telling us it’s somehow our fault, and you and me? We are Homer and OA. Let’s do the movements all night long, with perfect feeling. Let’s come together. Let’s make some noise. Let’s be angels.
Let’s bring our beloved show back to life.
Because, at the end of the day, it’s Scott’s dimension that we’re fighting for after all. He dreamed of us. And we want to keep OA alive in our dimension. We want this story. We were never meant to become a part of this story, but there’s no going back now.

“We imagined that the collective is stronger than the individual. We imagined that there is no hero. We imagined that the trees of San Francisco and a giant pacific octopus had voices we could understand and ought to listen to. We imagined humans as one species among many and not necessarily the wisest or most evolved. We imagined movements that got unlikely people in rooms together, got them moving, got them willing to risk vulnerability for the chance to step into another world.” - Brit Marling

There is a deep cultural reason why shows like The OA which buck against the traditional hero/villain narrative get cancelled. Claire Kiechel, one of the writers on The OA Part 2, added her testimonial to reddit today. This cancelation is very real. And we are all still fighting to pick up the pieces of this broken story. Take a read. It’s good. It’s important. And do what you can to #savetheOA

just three notes
One of the things I noticed on my full rewatch (of MANY) was that Nina's dad tells her he could find her with just 3 notes of her violin, no more no less. That's in season 1.
In season 2, Rachel sings to Buck through the mirror. Just 3 notes. BBA.
Not necessarily gonna try and theorize what this means, just one of the many parallels throughout this incredible show.

While I certainly would like to see the OA III, IV, and V, one of the worst implications, in my opinion, if the not-actually-cancelled theory were to be true is that it’d be a pretty cruel, emotionally manipulative stunt to play on the show’s fans, especially trans kids and queer kids, who usually don’t see themselves represented or are represented in some pretty awful ways (and adults too). And that doesn’t sound like something Brit and Zal would do. (Though I trust Netflix about as far as I can throw it)
