When I posted yesterday, I realized that I did not curse or blame you… I was feeling all the feelings and I was not quite myself!!! or maybe I was… whatever… I don’t know!!! feck off!!!! XD

I was uncontrolably sobbing, SO kept checking up on me and at one point asked if I could stop, even for just a night and take a breather.  I, of course said that, that was not possible… and we had a laugh, and distracted me with a documentary.

And then, off I went to shatter my poor battered heart into broken little pieces…

The lot of you have now sent me the “Another one bites the dust!”

………………. And…… oooohhhhhhhh…. how I HATE you all!!!

My eyes are still freakin sore. I woke up this morning like I had a hangover!!!

I now care so much, so, so much! I am blaming you…..and yes… I really… really… really HATE YOU!!!

This is a fic about Wei Wuxian’s relationship with hunger and food throughout his lives. Watch out for discussion of hunger, starvation, disordered eating, cannibalism, vomiting, dog attacks. It’s a deep fic, but lovely. And one of my favorite things ever about it is Wei Wuxian internally chanting “Clear communication is sexy” to himself as he tries to open up to Lan Wangji. Just a painful, gorgeous fic with a satisfying family-feels ending.

Okay listen, I don't want to talk about comparing the novel to the drama because at the end of the day each one needs to stand on its own merits and they're quite different. What I do want to talk about is why I love what the show did with WangXian and how it made me lose my shit entirely over them.

1. The invention of the Yin Iron storyline. While I don't necessarily feel like it was entirely resolved to my full satisfaction, as a plot device to develop teenage!Wangxian it was brilliant. It gave us the handfasting in the Cold Pond Cave, their early Battle Husband scenes with the Dire Owl and the Dancing Peri, the incredibly gorgeous scene where Lan Wangji got ogled for a full minute...

It also allowed them to meet Song Lan and Xiao Xincheng before Yin City, lending a while lot more heft to that storyline. So that by the time we get to the Xuanwu Cave, the fact that LWJ has gone besotted and written a gross love song actually feels EARNED.

2. Equality Kink. Okay this is a highly specific thing for me, but this is what made me fall hard for them. There are numerous scenes at Cloud Recesses and beyond where both WWX and LWJ talk about how they are each other's match, and WWX explicitly tells JC that he sees LWJ as his equal. For someone as brilliant as WWX and as technically skilled at LWJ this is a HUGE DEAL. (Hello, my competence kink.) This becomes even more important post resurrection because even though WWX isn't physically as strong as he once was, they still treat each other as equals and badass Battle Husbands. (Ugh I love them.)

3. The Rain Scene. You know the one I mean, and I've talked about it in another post. But honestly, it's Peak Romance, and Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan deserve all the awards for ripping my heart the fuck out.

4. The Lantern Ceremony. I love that the drama explicitly shows us the moment LWJ falls in love. When the cute boy who's been annoying you makes you a bunny lantern and suddenly demonstrates he also has a strong moral backbone, poor Lan-er-gongzi doesn't stand a chance. Who doesn't have a big boner for Justice?

5. The Jinlintai Scene. Epic. Incredible. 100000/10. Have you ever seen two fools being so gay forward while 30 men point swords at them? Well you have now. The fact that WWX is like "I'm used to this, get away from me and save yourself" is already 💔💔💔 as fuck, but then LWJ opens his mouth and SPEAKS. (And I go feral.) He's very economical with words, so every one is precious, and the fact that he chooses to declare his devotion so openly (in front of both their families and all of society at large) and in a way that will be extra meaningful to WWX (by quoting his own words back to him), I'm just... My gay heart is honestly soaring. Bury me with this scene.

I could totally go on for like 10 more posts about how much I adore them and the way their dynamic is presented in the show, but I'm probably preaching to the choir by now. Anyways, they're equals, and they're in love, and it's beautiful. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
