Photoshop VS Illustrator?
Photoshop:
Adobe Photoshop is a brilliant peice of software for modifying images or graphics, like photos. Photoshop is by far Adobe’s most popular and well know programme. Raster or bitmap graphics are created in Photoshop. If you zoom into a photo or grahic created by photoshop the lines will be all jagged this is because raster images are made up of individual colored squares, known as pixels. Everything in Photoshop is just a series of pixels, so if you're scaling something up or down, it can lose its quality very quickly. Photoshop is a popular choice for web graphics, photo editing and designs since those projects will stay at a fixed size. Editing photos is probably the main reason photoshop was created thats why it is brilliant for it! There are so many tool that can help edit images, pretty much every publication will use photoshop to edit or just to sharpen up the images.
Tumblr media
Illustrator:
Adobe Illustrator is an advanced vector-based software. In Illustrator, a line is composed of two dots connected by a computer algorithm, instead of just a line of pixels. Because of this, Illustrator is used often to create logos or anything that may need to be printed or displayed at different sizes. A vector graphic will never lose its quality if it's scaled up or down. Illustrator will also give you a better print output since it's not resolution dependent. A drawback of Illustrator is that it can't be used easily to modify images that are already created, since there are limited filters and image editing tools available to you.

Shoot ‘em up games:
The Effects of Shoot ‘Em Up Games.
Since the later 70’S Shoot em up games have been the leading category of computer games, starting of with Space invaders in 1978 all the way to the latest Battlefield 1 which game out late 2016. Although this type of game may be very popular with the younger generations 16-18 year olds, many people have said a shoot ‘em up style game could cause issues with health and be the blame for violent cases.
In 2012 a very serious mass shooting happened in Norway, Anders Behring Breivik killed 77 innocent people; When he testified he openly said he played a shooting game called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”, On an article on CNN it stated “Norway’s alleged mass killer testified on Thursday that he played video games as a way to train for a shooting spree that killed 77 people last summer. In particular, Anders Behring Breivik said at his trial that he played "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" as a means of shooting practice, according to CNN's report.” The shooter also later stated he played another game for a very long period “The confessed shooter also said he once played the online game "World of Warcraft," a role-playing adventure with multiple players from around the world, for as many as 16 hours a day.” For the many people who believe that this type of game can affect a person’s metal health and wellbeing this was ground breaking evidence.
On the other side, there is research that has been discovered about how shoot em up games are actually good for us and our brain. In 2015 the mail online released an article on “Shoot-Em-Ups can actually boost brain function” The review was carried out by Dr Shawn Green, assistant professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Dr Aaron Seitz, of University of California Riverside. They said “action video games have been linked to improving attention skills, brain processing, and cognitive functions including low-level vision through high-level cognitive abilities.” Although studies show that action games can make your brain function faster as separate study has been carried out about “Do these games make you violent?” the study showed us that “exposure to violent video games is a 'risk factor' for increased aggression.” They also stated, “Experts who conducted the review stopped short of saying that violent games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto led directly to criminal acts however, citing a lack of evidence.”
When I was a child I always got told that if I sat string at a screen playing video game for too long it would affect my eye sight badly and I always believed that statement, But In 2012, researchers from Canada's McMaster University discovered that playing video games can drastically improve the eyesight of the visually impaired. The study was on 6 adults aged 16-31 who all had cataracts in their eyes. However, after playing a first-person shooter video game for 40 hours over a month-long period, the patients' vision improved enough that they could read one or two lines further down on a standard optician's eye chart. The patients also became much better at following target movement, detecting slow rates of flickers and much better at distinguishing faces.
Another big statement is that video games make your attention span much shorter… Well that is also a lie. Dr Daphne Bavelier is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an expert in the field of Brain & Cognitive Sciences, She recently focused a presentation dedicated to what video games do to our brains. In the presentation, Bavelier presented the audience with the infamous 'word colour' test. Where non-gamers are easily confused by the puzzle, says the researcher, those who spend long periods playing on their consoles or computers tend to pass the test with flying colours...
https://media.giphy.com/media/3oEjI5sgCG16LrIcGQ/giphy.gif
"Actually, those action video game players have many other advantages in terms of attention," Bavelier continues, "and one aspect of attention which is also improved for the better is our ability to track objects around in the world. This is something we use all the time. When you're driving, you're tracking, keeping track of the cars around you. You're also keeping track of the pedestrian, the running dog, and that's how you can actually be safe driving, right?
So we have established that shoot ‘em up games can be good for your eye sight and also your brains functionality, but if exposed to them for very very long periods of time there is a chance of being more violent.
There’s a whole other side of shoot ‘em up games that we haven’t talked about, And that’s actually earning a living through these games. One massive example is esports.
What is esports? esports - or electronic sports - is the umbrella term for organised, competitive computer gaming, usually between professionals. Competitive computer gaming has been around for decades, with Pong leading the way in the 1970s, but it has exploded in Asia since the turn of the century and that popularity is now transferring to Europe and North America. To illustrate the scale of the industry consider that the International 2015: Dota 2 Championships which were held in Seattle in August 2015, had a prize pool of £14,245,963.30 ($18,429,613.00).
Esports is one of the most highly growing gaming / sports franchise out there, in 2012 esports had a view count of 58m, But now in recent figures in 2016 there was 90m viewers with over 3.7B hours spent watching the sport. To put into perspective of how big esports actually is, League of Legends is the second most watch sports event after the super bowl in America with 27m people watching it.. then just after the Masters 25m is DOTA 2- International with 20m. esports is growing massively and this would have never of been a thing is shoot ‘em up style video games weren’t about.
Another huge aspect of the shoot ‘em up game franchise is that how massive it is for technology advancing. To compare the first shoot ‘em up game to now with games like Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty there is no comparison. The advance of tech is dependent on how much people want this type of game, well any game for that matter. If it wasn’t for the popularity of computer games I highly doubt we would have all the tech we have today. One massive advance for gaming and especially the shoot em up games is virtual reality, basically living a game in real life. Virtual reality may or already has sparked up debates weather it is any good for health or the mental state of someone, but I think all the negative will soon be turned into huge positives.
The opportunity’s gaming and this type of game can give is huge, If you really have a passion for gaming there are so many paths in life you can take with it. This side of gaming is really under looked, Not only can you play games for competitive reasons such as esports, you can make video’s on platforms such as YouTube or TWITCH, You could even take it the other route and go down the design path, Learn how to code, learn how to design or even actually make your own game and then there is also reporting, you can review games, play the latest games before they even come out! Have you say and let your word be the judge to thousands? The possibility’s with gaming is infinite, Kids and adults should be able to experience what they want to experience and do what they want and enjoy their passion, another huge reason why gaming and shoot ‘em up games in general are great!
Overall there are still two huge side on this debate, weather shoot ‘em up games a bad for you or if they are completely fine. There have been so many points proven to show that shoot ‘em up games can be used for good use, for example being able to see better, having much better attention, being able to focus on more than one thing at a time and also being able to earn and have a job out of gaming (esports). The trouble is there have been many example of where shooting games have effected someone mental state and have caused serious offences to the stage where a gunman openly acts out a shooting…  I strongly believe that the small minority and I mean very small minority who act violently because of a game shouldn’t mean kids cant play these types of games, Not only does it help with how your brain functions, but if you want to peruse it as a career you can do and I think that its great. Overall it a matter of a opinion and my opinion is that shoot ‘em up games are completely fine.

Conclusion:
I wanted to go crazy and just really random on my esting and think i achived what i set out to do. The selection of music i got given to put over the top of the esting was very minimal and think i had chosen the best suited music for my crazy esting.
There is no story line or moral in my esting i just wanted it to be eye catching which is why i used bright colours at the end and very loud and kinda anoying music.
I found the process of creating stop motion is very long and makes you very tired, i really didnt enjoy this process and wouldnt want to do anymore stopmotion work. Sayng that i am pleased with how my esting did turn out, it was very vibrant, loud and eye catching ; Its what i wanted it to be like so overall i am very happy with the results.

My Plan:
Tumblr media
After doing some reaserch about the E4 Estings i found out that all of them are very random and very quirky. While looking around youtube i started to see a lot of whiteboard stop motion rather than 3D gerated stopmotion and Claymotion, I started to watch a branding video about stopmotion done via a white board and had said that people were 8x more likely to watch a stopmotion video drawn on a white board rather than anyother sort of stopmotion/animated video so my paln is to up that. Im a very keen illustrator and graphic designer and wanted to use a programme i love Adobe Illustrator and base my idea off random doodles like faces, flowers, storms, animals, basiclly anything that looks crazy and would catch someone attention.
When i drew out my story board i was going to hand draw my whole video which would mean aking 250 images and in my opion would look boring; I gave it a couple of trial run and could get on with the hand drawing method, So i done some more reaserch about stopmotion on photoshop and illustrator.
I have deicded i will use Adobe Illustrator as my main programme, This is wear i will create my esting one frame at a time.

Types Of Stop Motion.
Persistence of vision
Persistence of vision is an optical illusion where multiple discrete images blend into one in the human mind. It is believed to be the explanation for motion perception.
Tumblr media
Stop- Frame
Stop frame anitmation is where a animation is catured one frame at a time to create a moving effect when played in a video, They use physical objects and move them ever so slightly.  When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement.
Tumblr media
 Frame Rates
Frame rates are the frequency of how often a image is dislayed. There are currently three main frame rate standards in the TV and movie-making business: 24p, 25p, and 30p. In animation they use 24Fps, Practically all hand-drawn animation is designed to be played at 24 FPS.

History Of Stop Motion.
The History of Stop Motion
Stop Motion animation is one of the earliest forms of film making, almost as early as traditional film making. Some people say that stop motion was created by a mistake in one of Georges Melies Fantastical visions where his camera jammed, After the film developed objects magically disappeared on screen. Keen to exploit and use this mistake to an advantage himself and others began to stage other illusions. There are four main types of animation that are used all over, the first is clay animation or “Claymation” for short. Claymation is where you use clay moulded into characters that are then used as the subjects.
Tumblr media
Another is time lapse animation, this is where single frames are taken at certain intervals to show maybe the changing of weather, day and night or a sunset for example. The third is puppet animation, this is wired characters “puppets” are used as the subject. The final type is pixilation this is when human subjects move tiny amounts from frame to frame.
In 1898 the first use of stop motion was aired, it was right at the begging of cinema, Albert E. Smith and J. Stuart Blackton made The Humpty Dumpty Circus, this was a breakthrough in cinema however it wasn’t until 35 years later that America truly woke up to stop motion animation. It was thanks to one man Willis O’Brien; he was an ex-newspaper cartoonist but was hired by Edison Company in the mid 1910’s, He was hired to create short films about prehistoric subjects, in 1925 he worked on his first feature film; The Lost World, He never finished the project although the work he did do on it managed to get him a job of visual effects on King Kong which electrified audiences in 1933; The film’s success was all thanks to O’Brien on creating realistic creatures.
Tumblr media
Ray Harryhausen became a disciple of O’Brien’s and carried on his work of realistic creatures to create hit feature films. O’Brien hired Harryhausen in 1949 to work on the King Kong remake Mighty Joe Young. After that film Harryhausen left O’Brien to work on his own and created many memorable films such as Jason and The Argonauts, One Million Years, Clash of The Titans and B.C.; Harryhausen looked at and perfected many on O’Brien’s original techniques. Harryhausen created DynaMaiton, this split the live action footage into the foreground and background so that if he used rear projection he could “sandwich” his own work into the very center. After his film in 1981 Clah of The Titans special effects started to evolve even more, they had started to utilize computer graphics rather than models made. Although Harryhausen never made a film since then his popularity is still massive.
In 1965 independent clay   animator Eliot Noyes Jr changed the way and technique of free form clay animation; freeform is animation where the subject doesn’t have a internal skeletal structure. He used this in his film Clay. The first animation that won a Oscar was in March 1975 and was won by film maker and clay animation experimenter Will Vinton joined with Bob Gardener; The film was called Closed Mondays, This was the first stop motion movie to win a Oscar.
There is possibly no contemporary name more famous in the field of stop motion animation than Nick Park. The animator has created the worlds most iconic stop motion characters Wallace And Gromit. In 1989, while at Aardman Animation, he completed his first Wallace and Gromit short and two other very well known animations A Grand Day Out, and Creature Comforts. The talking Zoo animals in Creature Comforts won Nick a Oscar and A Grand Day Out wont a British Academy Award. Since then, Park has directed three more Wallace and Gromit shorts, The Wrong Trousers, Since then, Park has directed three more Wallace and Gromit shorts, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death, A Matter of Loaf and Death and The Wrong Trousers. He also turned the award winning creature comforts into a hit TV series.

80′s VHS Cover Final Outcome:
Tumblr media
Overall i am very pleased with the outcome of my VHS cover. I have used everything i said about using. I used my research as to making sure what colours to use which were mainly pinks, Purples and oranges. I also took aspects from other films such as the blood moon in the background from drive and also the blue laser flooring that were in a lot of 80′s movie posters. Like the over VHS covers my figures and bike are all illustrated and feature the bright colours just like the figure from drive.

80′s VHS Cover Research and Plan:
Research:
Tumblr media
When researching old 80′s VHS covers i noticed many similarities in them, Not only how bring and in your face they were but also the straight lines that could create a image, The neon and pastel colours but how all the covers looked to be drawn or illustrated.
The film i will use as my main inspiration is “Drive” ; I'm drawn towards the middle because of the very bright pink and purple neon colours. “Drive” will work well as my main inspiration because the film is about a driver and motors and my idea for mine is very similar.
Tumblr media
I will take some aspects of the “Drive” VHS cover such as the bright colours which are Pink,Purple and Blue and will also have dark shadow effects around it. I am also going to use the straight lines to help me create a blood moon effect which i have seen in other 80′s style posters and also on a drive poster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Researching the 80′s look i noticed that the style is coming back in music. For instance Busted just released a new album called night driver.
Tumblr media
Just looking at the album cover you can see that they have taken inspiration from the 80′s era by using the light neon pinks and also having that gradient effect on the text. You can also see this on The 1975 The sound album and video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again using them very bight neon colours and same base colours of the pinks, blues and purples.

Unit 32 - DCM Ident- Final Piece
Evaluation:
When i planed my ident i knew exactly how i wanted it, I wanted it to feature every emotion that is possible in a film and wanted to capture how people saw that emotion buy seeing there eyes. I started my ident of with a quote saying “The power of film is more powerful than you think” and also ended it on a quote saying “ There’s a lot more to film than you think, Just open your eyes and you will see” i think these two quotes are great to start and end with as they portray the message i want to get across to the viewer which is , to see the bigger picture and to see the deeper meaning in a film. I really feel like a i captured the message in my ident as it featured many clips that can relate to all the emotions for example , The calmness of the water and trees, The scariness of the clown, The excitement of the skateboards and cars and also the cuteness and loving of the dog.
When editing the ident the only problems i faced is how to make the idea in my head a reality. The end scene with the classic films was the hardest part for me and i must have changed it around 4 times before i was completely happy with it. I am really pleased with how my ident came out as it was everything i set out for it to look like, it was fast paced , it had the montage feel to it, It was crazy and it featured all the emotions. I wouldn't change anything in the editing process as i am very happy with the outcome.

Screenshots.
The first step when editing my ident was to open up Adobe Premier Pro CC © , I started a fresh new project ; I then edited my workspace so i felt comfortable in working in Premier.
Tumblr media
The next step was to add my first clip , This was going to be the opening clip of the eyes staring straight at you , i made this scene 00:04 seconds long and cut the rest out using the cut tool on the timeline. I then also imported a audio file which was my voice over that i wanted over the top of the eyes, I also used the Razor tool to edit how long the audio file was.
Tumblr media
After i imported my first scene and first audio clip i then imported every single shot i recorded , This is also when i chose what song i was going to use. After importing the audio file into the timeline i then went and made it 00:30 seconds long as that is how long our ident has to be. I also had the song start after my second audio clip which was some breathing, so using the timeline i could see the sound wave and after the exhale on the audio clip that is where i placed the start of the song.
Tumblr media
After a while my ident started to take place i already had 00:15 seconds of footage on my time line including video, sound effects and music. We then came to the jump scare part; I wanted to include every emotion and feeling into this ident so of course there had to be horror, In my source preview window you can see the clip i used before the jump scare of some eyes that looked shocked, over the top of that footage i had a audio file of me saying”STOP” straight after that was said it then cut to the jump scare of the clown mask with the audio film of screaming , I cut this all together using the Razor tool.
Tumblr media
After the jump scare part i then carried on importing more footage into the timeline, I also added some sound effect that i made my self into the time line , including a scream, a gust of wind and water trickles. I made sure when adding the footage it was under 00:04 seconds long as i wanted it to be like a montage, I thought having the shots this quick would mean they would be on screen just long enough for you too make it out what it was but to also give you suspense as to what will be next.
Tumblr media
I finally imported all the footage onto my timeline for the base layer of my ident , i also managed to add the soundtrack and some sound effects. It was now time to edit the ending. I first imported a sound track of me talking about “opening your eyes” This is the whole message of my ident, to see beyond the film. Over the top of this narration i later added sort clips of famous movies including Forrest Gump  © , Back To The Future  ©, Toy Story  © and Grease  © , I had the clips show for around 00:05 seconds each, I used the Razor Tool to cut away excess footage.
Tumblr media
Once i had the basics of my ending established it was time to insert the DCM logo, This logo was a PNG that was created on Adobe Illustrator , As it was an adobe file i simply imported it into my project file and then inserted it into my timeline. As the logo was black i needed a white background for the viewer to see it, to solve that problem i imported a plain white image. I wanted to make the ending of my ident just as interesting as the rest of it so i wanted to have shots playing in the background and also playing inside the logo. I then chose what video clip i wanted to play inside the logo and moved it about the logo on the timeline, I then went into the editing tab above the preview window, I then went into the Effects Control tab and went into opacity , in there i found blending modes, I then added the blending mode ‘Lighten’ onto the logo so you can only see it on the black logo. After that i then inserted three more clip above that clip to play under neath the logo. As i wanted to have the logo playing over the top of three different video clips i needed to find the right blending mode that would look the best, In the end i added the blending mode ‘Linear Burn’ onto the three. after i played it it came out great i was really pleased. I then cut the the excess footage off using the razor tool to make sure it was 00:30 seconds long.
Tumblr media
Now my ending was complete and my first layer of footage was all on my timeline it was time too add the second layer of footage over the top. The first clip was a shot of a padlock. I imported it into my timeline and then went into the effects tab. I added the blending mode ‘Lighten’ Onto it and lowered the opacity so you could see the other shots under neath. I also made this clip the same length as the rest 00:04 seconds long.
Tumblr media
I  added a couple more shots on top of the first layer and used the same process of adding the ‘lighten’ Blend mode. I wanted to make the jump scare even more scary so i added another different shot of the clown mask. I used the same process as the other shot, I also added a loud breathing sound effect over the top of the scream sound effect.
Tumblr media
The next step was to make a point about the ‘Opening your eyes’ so when i got to the part about the classic films i wanted you to see people eyes and see the emotion in them, I changed this part a few times but finally got it how i wanted it. I had five different shots of eyes underneath the clips of classic movies, I made the eye shots start and end the same time as the classic film shots which was around 00:05 seconds. I used the razor tool to help me with that. I then selected each of the film clips and went into the editing tab, on each clip i lowered the opacity form 100% to 50% so you could see the eyes underneath.
Tumblr media
After i added in some final sound effects and adjusted the length of some clips i played i through a couple of times to make sure i was happy to export the ident. When i exported the media i made  the format Windows Media and made sure it was HD 1080p.

Definitions .
Meeting Deadlines:
My deadline will be met and i will have followed the brief i had been given. Meeting deadlines are important as well to please the client your are working for; You want to make sure you produce the best ident possible but also need to have good time management.
Scheduling:
Scheduling a shoot is very important as you need to plan what to take and use. Making a list of things you will need is a great idea and also planing what shot you should shoot first. If you have any actors or actresses involved you will need to consult them and make sure they are able to do the date you have selected. My filming will be done over a weekend and will feature a actor and actress but only for a short time so can be flexible with when i need them.
Management Of Resources:
It is important to have good management of resources as if you lose you ideas, plans and information about the ident your creating you may have to completely redo everything which would take up a lot of time and will not impress the client you are doing it for.
Client Negotiation:
Negotiation with the client is big, You always want to make the client happy with what you are offering and what you can produce; You want to be able to do what your being asked to create. Sometimes clients want more that what you are offering to show you are willing to be more experimental and flexible with ideas. Opening up to the client helps though as you can both agree on a neutral ground to work at and for you and the client to make a idea that suits the clients brief.
Liason With Clients:
In a situation where you have to follow a clients brief, a liason with the client is recommended. This is so you can tell exactly what the client wants and what they expect from you to achieve. Face to face are better as when you are talking to each other there will be no blurred lines and you can ask questions freely.
Team Working:
When producing a ident team work is very important; You don’t always need lots of people to produce something special. When you do work in a team team roles are key , it help things run smooth and faster than normal. I’m working alone so i will have to sort out how i am going to produce my ident on my own.
Presentations:
When you are presenting to a client ,professionalism is the key. You need to make the client believe you are they one they want, you need to show them what you can do and achieve and also set goals you are willing to work towards. A great way of presenting you work is through a portfolio whether that is online or in person in a sketch book; The client will want to see what you can do and achieve so they get a feel of what to ask for. You will want to do research on the client so you are prepared for questions and also to make it easier to pitch.
Memory:
When filming for your ident memory is very important; This is because you need to remember what shot you need to film , what shots you have filmed and how many times you have done this. Its good to make story boards to make you remember what shots you need and also a list to mark off what shots you have created. You will need to store all of your shots on a SD card otherwise would be pointless and you would have nothing to edit with.
File Formats:
Video can be saved in numerous of ways, they way i will save my video will be in a MP4 format as it is most commonly recognized and works well in the software i use. Sound will be saved as a MP3 and any sound i recored or use will be a MP3 file.
Editing Software:
Editing software is important when creating the ident as you need to know what you are working with , I will be working with Adobe Premier and Adobe After Effect. When creating the ident you want to be comfortable with the software you use, this is so you can get the most out of you ident and will look the best.
2D And 3D Animation:
2D is the more traditional animation style you see, The graphics and still move up , down and left to right but are very flat and can look very boring compared to 3D graphics although 3D Graphics are able to move towards and away from the audience giving that 3D Effect . 2D Graphics are usually seen in adverts, Film and in Television. 3D is very popular in computer games and it give the game a ‘Real World’ Feel.
Layering:
Layering is a editing technique frequently used when creating a ident; This is when you have a bottom layer and you have a top layer in which you can place many objects to create a stacked effect. This give a great effect that people love.
Stop Motion:
Stop motion is a filming technique where a photo will be taken every time a object is moved very slightly, When edited you add all the photos into your time line and only show them for less than a second and will look like a real film as you can see object moving. This technique is sometimes used in idents and does look good when created properly.
