How It’s Going

Sorry for the recent silence. I am still working on CC, albeit slowly to prevent burnout. My current WIP is an outfit that I have been obsessed with lately, so I’m really excited about it.

I’ve been looking for a new job for the past 11 months with only the occasional interview. My current job has gotten to the point where I’ve had to request a Reasonable Accommodation in order to be productive. Still in the process of getting that sorted.

Otherwise, I’m taking a break after 11 years of ballroom and Latin dancing and have started ballet classes, which I haven’t done since I was a toddler.

So here we have Abeille's toddler looks. They weren't seen a lot in story because it was so short. I decided to dress her in yellow, which will eventually be her favorite color. She has the Inquisitive trait.

Civil War Nurse Barbie - BGC

As a belated celebration of Barbara Millicent Roberts' 65th birthday, I present the 1995 Civil War Nurse Barbie. This doll was part of the American Stories Collection, and her story was set during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.

Mattel took some liberties with historical accuracy, so it is not totally appropriate for 1863. The doll came with a nurse's cap and cloak that would not have been standard uniform at the time, and I left the cloak off because I couldn't find a good mesh for it.

The dress is a recolor of @dancemachinetrait's maid and VAD uniforms, with the mesh edit from my Ruth dress. Petticoat texture comes from @noriannsimblr. There are 40 swatches from no particular palette. Half are stripes and half are solids. Half have the caduceus symbol on the apron and half don't.

The bag that comes with the doll looks more like a field kit or tool chest, which I couldn't find a good mesh for. Instead I used Agnes Crumplebottom's purse, which looks more like a traditional doctor's bag. Swatches are in @waxesnostalgic's Vintage Neutrals palette. Half have the caduceus symbol and half don't. Functions as a decorative object.

Abeille Pelletier - 1893-1894 Infant Lookbook

Abeille "Little Bee" Pelletier's clothing represents the general style for babies of both genders from birth to age 4-5. Her clothing is probably going to change the most often this decade as she ages. In general it is very boring. Yes, she is in blue.

At the time blue was a common color to dress little girls in because of its association with the Virgin Mary. Pink being a lighter shade of red was for boys until they switched around the 1940s. The most common color for both genders was in fact beige or white. This was because simple undyed wool and linen tends to be in this color.

As far as I know, Rromani people of the time just let babies run naked / clothed only in a diaper unless it was cold. However since Toulouse and Rosalie are trying to assimilate, this would be deemed improper. Babies and children are considered wuzho (pure) until puberty (for girls it is the first period). They are free from most marime (unclean/impure) until then. After babies are born though they and the mother are considered Marime and must be avoided for 3 days. This is because babies emerge from the genitals which are the most impure parts of the body.

Historical Nursing

A BGC Career and Dress

In honor of Florence Nightingale's 202nd birthday, I present a long-time WIP. The medical career from Get to Work only briefly features nursing and all the CC careers I've found are modern, so I wanted to focus on the period around WWII. You can reasonably use the career for most of the first half of the 20th century, into the 60s. Less wiggle-room with the uniform.

The starting track was largely inspired by the Cherry Ames series. It focuses on nursing school, so these three levels do not receive pay. Teens can join the career and if you want an adult to skip this part, you can use MCCC to cheat to level four. (You can also use MCCC to freeze at any level in order to avoid promotions).

There are three branches:

Hospital, which was also inspired by Cherry Ames. Levels are: Graduate Nurse, Head Nurse, and Superintendent.

Military, which uses ranks from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII. Levels are: Cadet, Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Colonel.

Public Health, which was partially inspired by Call the Midwife. Levels are: School Nurse, District Nurse, Nurse Midwife, and Health Department Liaison.

*Known issue: The skirt of the dress looks funky at the knees while sitting and napping. I tried every method I could think of to fix it but had no luck.

Rosalie Pelletier- 1890s Lookbook

Rosalie looks for the 1890s are very traditional Rromani style with a few Simerican and French influences. Rromani married women tend to wear dikhlo (Rromani headcovering) with the ends braided into two plaits. We usually wear a skirt and top with an apron due to a concept in our culture called mahrime.

Henrietta Bolton: The School Nurse - 1965

Since I'm building more lore for Lidia's friends, here's Henrietta —or Etta for short, but only if you're in her Rolodex— who was first mentioned in this post in case you missed it. As busy as she may be as a community organizer, believe it or not, Etta does still have a day job. She works at the nearby elementary school as their nurse, but between the occasional scrapped knees, noes bleeds, and keeping tabs on her supplies, she does get a lot of downtime during school hours. Just don't let the administrators know that she fills that time planning protests and sit-ins, all while the kid that just tossed his cookies during lunch takes a nap while waiting for his mom to come pick him up.

I had a request on my sheet for a nonsplattered version of this cute little dress from Courtney's Mix-And-Match 80s Pack, and thankfully Pancreas was able to send me a clean texture for me to work with. Now, I can't seem to tag their blog, so Em, if you see this, I hope it turned out the way you wanted.

Included is the requested plain JewlRyBox and Historian swatches, as well as I went ahead and added Scientist, as well as the JewlRyBox HSY heart patterns, Beenie Baby solids and a cute set of pastel patterns I had lying around with accent colors from the Counting Sheep palette. All are standalones with custom thumbnails and do not require the mesh thanks to Pancreas's generous TOU.

Cécile and Marie-Grace's Meet Hats

This has been high on my list of add-on WIPS for a long time, and now that I've finally read their books I've been motivated to make more of these girls' accessories. My original plan was to also include the necklaces, but I ran out of time and wanted to post something before January was over. Hopefully the necklaces will be coming soon.

Cécile's hat comes in swatches to match her meet outfit. It is a mesh edit of Melody's meet hat.

Marie-Grace's hat is a merged package with the base in the (retired) Milk Tea palette and the ribbon overlay in the Primary palette. It is a frankenmesh of @waxesnostalgic's mushroom hat and @vintagesimstress's 1890s hat.

Ribbon overlay found under piercings.

Both are hat slider compatible.

RECOLOR: Samantha’s Play Pinafore (Adult) by Historical Fiction Sims

We’re officially here! My first ever remake of someone else’s CC!

Once again requested by @tweedsims on tumblr, who’s been having a hard time and hopefully this sweet cottage core piece can cheer her up just a bit. She asked if I could take the original v2 pinafore by @historicalfictionsims and make it solid colors- honestly, I was surprised that there weren’t solid color options originally!

I recolored it in a blend of the Historian palette by Serendipity Sims @serindipitysims and GumdropGameSpot’s version of the Cottage Living palette @gumdropgamespot, with the help of a handful of patterns by Trillyke.

The good news is that Historical Fashion Sims allows mesh bundling, so these are BGC!

Now, would an adult Sam still dress like this? Definitely not, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t whip up a lookalike to model for us ;) There’s a clipping issue in CAS that I haven’t been able to reproduce in game, but that is very much beyond my current skill set to mesh edit and fix.

Thanks for the tag @simstomaggie. It's pretty obvious that I've been searching for inspiration from the 1990s, based on the pictures of Clueless and The Parent Trap. Most of the celebs it came up with were also from this era, but the first result was for Lucille Ball. Simblreen 2023 - Weekend One

For the first weekend of the event, I wanted to make something Western that could be released in three parts. The answer was the Cooper Siblings from Doctor Quinn: Medicine Woman. Each outfit comes in a child and T-E version.

Colleen's dress comes in 63 swatches. Solids from my Combined Diary palette plus Mothz patterns. The petticoat texture is from here. Only slight issue is a small gap in the back between the bow and the waistband.

Brian's outfit is in 11 swatches. The shirts are in Trillyke's Patterns.

Matthew's outfit comes in 2 sets of Vintage Neutrals. Half have muddy boots and half have clean. The boots are attached to the outfit and will override other shoes.
