Sorry this went MIA. I got promoted in a theatre production I’m working on and thus lost all the time I had to work on this. I will have more updates again around Halloween! Thanks for your patience >.<
Hey y’all! Unfortunately I won’t be able to get page 6 out by Saturday, and will be posting the fully inked page September 2nd instead. I’ll share an in process photo and video if I can! Thank you for your patience.
Thanks for the patience with this. I should be back on schedule. The hiatus gave me the chance to sketch hour a ton of the upcoming pages, so there shouldn’t be another deviation for a while.
Greetings and salutations! I come bearing good tidings, for I have found a solution to the “no iPad = no finished pages” problem. Moving forward, Hero of the Arena will transition from digital inks to traditional inks! I just acquired a lightbox that will be arriving at my location this Sunday which will allow me to comfortably have “layers” without excessive erasing and eraser marks on the page.
This does mean that going forward the visual style of the comic will be a bit more rough and organic with happy accidents. The “brush strokes” will be also be more variable as I will be jumping around between nibs, sharpies, plastic nib microns, and ink washes.
In the future when I can afford another tablet, I will revaluate whether or not I want to stick with traditional inks or return to digits based on my vision for the comic.
This means that PAGE 3 of HERO OF THE ARENA will be uploaded SATURDAY JULY 15th at 11:59 AM !!!
Thanks for your patience! I am looking forward to getting messy with my art!
What do you MEAN, you don’t want to kill him? You’re a gladiator! This is a fight to the death!! This isn’t some internal monologue “save the cat” trick to get the audience to like you, right???
I recently read all of the Dragon Ball manga (just stared Z) and now I just wanna draw all my fighters doing sweet flips. Toriyama does a really great job playing with how good action in comics comes in a three step process: set-up, action, and reaction. Except with his stuff he can blend the reaction into the set up for another action. It’s really cool, not just to look at, but to study.
I only hope I can be a third as good when drawing my own fight scenes.
Sorry again for not being able to update this week! The broken ipad situation looks to be real crummy. I will try posting silly fancomics on saturdays as well as keep ya'll up to date on the pencils of Hero of the Arena. Eventually I may drop some docs on how I'm playing around with the Loz Lore?
Thanks again for your patience! I really want to keep this comic going!
