Late Night Saturday WIP?
Though ball preparations were well underway, Lord Hugh found the time to leave his office and had been kind enough to wait for the girls with him in the drawing room.
“It was an awful shame your father couldn’t make the journey over as well.”
Scott nodded in agreement. Oh, how true that was. “He has business he still needs to tend to in America.”
“Quite right. What was that business of yours again?”
“It was…” Scott frowned. The answer, which should have been simple, evaded him. It was on the tip of his tongue and yet entirely absent. He closed his mouth to avoid looking like a fish out of water, despite the feeling that he very much was.
Lord Hugh awaited Scott’s answer patiently. If he was aware of Scott’s internal floundering, he was kind enough to feign ignorance to it.
The girls entered moments later. He had been momentarily grateful for the save — the answer was still eluded him — though that relief was short lived once he saw the look on his sister's face.

Oh yes! That would be fun! Of course Mr Selwyn could never battle a lady and so he honourable bows out, but it's secretly because he knows he'd be no match to an angered Miss Kyrano.
Brilliant snippet! I do hope Kayo gets some sort of justice for this man's snub! And way to go Aunt Sylvia! 👏
Regency AU sneak peek...
"Gentlemen!" Lady Sylvia laughed indulgently, "You cannot both dance with my niece. I believe Lord Woodbridge was before you, Mr Selwyn."
"Then I must wait my turn." he replied with a polite bow.
"My niece's friend is unclaimed for this next dance?" suggested her ladyship, indicating Miss Kyrano stood nearby.
Selwyn's lip curled as he slowly looked at the young woman from her toes to her face.
"I thank you. But I shall wait for Miss Creighton-Ward."
Lady Sylvia drew herself to her full height and stared at him coldly.
"You shall be waiting a very long time, sir, for my niece will not dance with you under any circumstances."
Leaving his mortified friend holding Miss Creighton-Ward's hand, Selwyn turned and walked away as Miss Kyrano blinked back tears of humiliation.

Ahhh! I shall add it onto my read list! Your prologue was amazing, so I'm excited to catch up with the rest!! 😃
WIP
Its not Wednesday but I am going SILLY and I need to share. In my wip I write Scott referring to his mum as 'mum', and Virgil using 'mama.' My second language is French and it got me thinking about an age old French debate about the opening line of L'etranger. In theory, this wip will eventually form part of Places Built for Leaving. Pls someone who also knows about French literature go feral with me over this metaphor HAHA
nine: aujourd'hui, maman est morte
The first book Virgil read in French was L’etranger.
Easy. Predictable. Maybe he wasn’t the first to get bogged down in the semantics of the opening line, but he certainly wouldn’t be the last, as he gazed down on its tauntingly simple form. Aujourd’hui, maman est morte. Today, ‘she’ died. The ‘she’ in question is up to interpretation. An intimate concession of parental love, its English equivalent always unreachable, and it strikes him as a particularly apt metaphor for his own family.
Today, your mother died, says grandma. Harsh. A simple fact, far too lost in the grief of losing her husband to care about the impact of her words.
Today, Mum died, says Scott and John. Older. Tired. Said with the burden of loss, both of one parent and childlike innocence.
Today, Mummy died, says Gordon, and Alan if he had the words. Children. They were just babies, really.
Today, Mama died, says Virgil. He’s not sure what endears him to the younger form of the word but he still uses it to this day. Virgil prefers English translations that use the French maman, and if it didn’t fill him with memories of Scott, young and lost and deployed in Paris, he’d probably use it himself.

Ooh this is interesting! And Virgil's emotions are so visceral. You capture him so well! Looking forward to seeing what happens next! 🥰

Thanks! There is a bit more written already that precedes this snippet. After that... I need to find time to write the rest 🥲 but, all being well, there should be at least a little bit more for this!
WIP WEDNESDAY !!
I've managed to start around five (no exaggeration) new stories this week, this snippet being one of them. I've been writing and writing (most of it terribly) but it's been cathartic.
How many of these new pieces will survive past a chapter or two, or ever see the light of day? I cannot say. Some may end up becoming too big to continue but, for now at least, it's all fun!
-------------------------
Was some of this thinking simply petulant behaviour from a man who would have much rather seen a fair few of those 'reforming' criminals remain behind bars for the rest of their pitiful lives? Yes. But Wayne wasn't going to admit that to anyone.
And he certainly wasn't going to admit it to Kayo.
Sitting across from her at lunch — a rarity for the both of them these days, what with their busy schedules — Wayne made sure to keep that confession to himself. Truthfully, he had missed his friend and he had been hoping their catch-up would avoid the perilous subject of work.
Being out on the field didn't feel the same anymore without Kayo there along for the ride. Once upon a time he had begrudgingly accepted her help. Now, many months and many missions later, he was lonely without her witty comebacks and quick thinking. None of the other soldiers he worked alongside were as talented as she had been. He had even begun to miss her smile.
Wayne had often thought about trying to convince her to join the GDF — her skill set alone would have been highly appreciated — but he knew she would never leave behind her brothers or International Rescue. He respected her for that.

Some of my OLD Thunderbirds fan art 🙈 The first three are from 8 years ago… @idontknowreallywhy wanted me to share them with the rest of the Thunderbirds Are Go fans 🙃 They’re a LITTLE embarrassing and the photo quality is AWFUL… but oh well.
I was a traditional artist back then ☺️💕
The last picture of Kayo is my most recent piece, so you can compare 🌷

Kayo Kyrano ❤️ from Thunderbirds Are Go!
I saw that there was something called “Kapril” going around, where you draw Kayo in April. I decided to participate because I used to draw TAG characters all the time! 😭 I can’t believe it’s been eight years… if you had told me then that I would still be drawing TAG characters in 8 years… 🫠
I haven’t drawn her in sooo long 🙃

Happy Anniversary!! 🎉 The mural looks amazing!
This month my Tumblr turned one year old! Thank you Thunderfam for such a lovely welcome (seriously the best fandom!). It's been FAB getting to know you all. My notepad has never been fuller of WIPs that are in serious need of editing...and I love it!
Still my largest piece of art to date - Thunderbirds wall mural!

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
Tumblr media
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
Tumblr media
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
Update: There's now a Megathread about this on the AO3 subreddit.

There are currently ~2300 works in AO3 tagged with "Created Using Generative AI"
I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.
