It's been three months since our beloved show was cancelled. I honestly feel a lot like Ryan in this meme right now. Times are tough but this fandom continues to fight. Let's go!!!
A month and a half late, here’s my secret santa gift for @royalcordelia!
Heaven Help The Fool Who Falls In Love:
It happened to everyone: on your fourteenth birthday, the universe would nudge you in the direction of your perfect soulmate by a mark appearing on your skin. It wasn’t a direct reveal: it certainly didn’t instantly tell you who you would be with for the rest of your life, and it was possible that you wouldn’t even meet your soulmate until years in the future. Rather, it was a hint, or at the very least a reminder that somewhere in the universe, someone was out there waiting for you.
Or, Anne is desperate to learn who her soulmate is, but finds that things hardly ever work out as planned.
(Title is from the song Ophelia by The Lumineers)
Under the cut is a list of songs that I felt fit the fic :) I hope you enjoy!
So when I saw this picture I knew I had to write an imagine on it!!!
Set at a time when Gilbert and Anne miss each other yet again and haven't confessed their feelings to each other and Anne doesn't know about the cancelled engagement.
Anne grabbed her books and headed out of the library, smiling kindly at the elderly librarian Mrs. Greta Mar. It had been two months since she had began classes at Queen's and yet it felt like she only came here yesterday as everyday something new was introduced to her.
She walked across the wide campus to the regular cafe where most college students met up for after class tea time. Her friends from Avonlea were all there already..
"Anne! Over her!" Charlie Sloane yelled causing heads to turn, she glared at the her poor classmate as she walked to the table where Diana, Ruby, Moody, Josie, Charlie, Tilly and Jane sat.
Charlie murmured am apology and turned his attention to Jane who he had taken interest in recently only to be met by an exaggerated eye roll.
"We were just talking about hosting a party at Diana's this autumn break! Almost every Avonlea kid will be back from college and we can call miss Stacy too!" Ruby gushed to Anne.
"Really?! That would be wonderful! Oh Diana how I miss talking to Miss Stacy!"
"So do I Anne, I can only hope that everyone is able to attend it." She smiled at the red head.
"Well I know for a fact that a certain Blythe will not be coming." Jane remarked."Must be busy eating French pastries with his wife !"
Anne gripped her tea cup tighter. All these weeks she had resisted writing a letter to him. Gilbert Blythe. The boy who had so mercilessly ignored her note and gone to Paris leaving her heart in pieces.
"I wonder how their children will look." Josie began. " Beautiful of course! Winfred has stunning golden locks and Gilbert, well let's not get started!" Tilly giggled.
Anne suddenly felt suffocated she finished her tea and stood up."Um.. Professor Rowing had asked me to meet him! I almost forgot, sorry." She bumped into moody as she turned.
"Anne!" He began but she was already gone.
"What happened to her?"
"Gilbert." Jane drawled. As Diana shot her a glare.
"Oh, I received his letter today but I am yet to open it."
Outside, Anne walked with a furious hurried stance before pausing in front of a bench to catch her breath before tears filled her eyes.
She walked like a wounded warrior, with a knife wedged inside her heart. Before she knew it somebody walking with the same furious hurried stance as her bumped into her causing hear to drop her books.
Anne turned around half heartedly as if she expected something like that. But was met by a young man, a head full of chocolate curls, chiseled jaw and stunning green eyes.
The man seemed to be as awe of her. In her striking blue dress, Anne stood out amongst greys and browns of the dusty road.
Wordlessly he picked up her books and came close to her, "I'm sorry. I wasn't looking." It was soft as a whisper as both of them held their stare.
"It's alright. I wasn't paying attention either" Anne whispered back, something about this person fascinated her. He seemed like he had just stepped out of a classic novel.
The shrill afternoon bell caused the two to step away from each other and stand more aware of their surroundings.
One observation I've made about some of the iconic shirbert moments is that the most intimate moments happen when no words are exchanged between them.
The longing glances across the room, Anne hugging Gilbert outside his house, the dance practice where Gilbert just grabs Anne's hand to keep her close to him, and the moments leading up to the kiss where they just slowly approach one another.
Whenever shirbert speak they end up miscommunicating (or arguing) a lot of the time, especially when it comes to expressing their feelings for each other. But when they don't speak and just listen to their hearts, it leads to some of the most intimate and romantic moments, showing just how they comfort and love each other even if verbally it doesn't always work out. They don't always need words to show how they feel, their actions ultimately prove it.
Ok but imagine a modern shirbert fic in which Gilbert and Roy are best friends in college and Anne is the new transfer student. And both of them fall for her, but Roy gets to date her. Gilbert endures this for two years and decides to leave. But Anne who feels extremely attached to him, realises her true feelings and goes after him 😭❤️
