       𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍       for some time now, trying to decipher the symbols inked onto her skin, like she was reading a fascinating book. she had never seen such artistry on a human canvas before.

❛   your warrior runes are beautiful,   ❜  she smiled. she’d learned from her studies in themyscira that warriors of different civilizations tattooed themselves to show status, or even to boast their headcount. hers, however, seemed less like symbols of battle and more like a story, each part twisting into another cohesively. she wished to know the stories behind each one, so she looked at her, hoping the stranger would indulge her.

《    steve.    》

     the last person that steve had expected to turn his back on him was tony stark, but it was far worse than that. he’d hunted him down like a dog, with the force of the entire united states government behind him. he’d fought, sweated, cried, bled for his country. so sudden to turn their backs on him, to label him a criminal and put a bounty on his head. dead or alive, putting out a cash reward, sending bounty hunters in waves. they never lasted long; he never hurt anyone seriously, but he was getting tired of being hunted. he was tired of living like a common criminal on the run.

     which is why he found himself in such a horrid place, in the middle of nowhere, surviving by getting a room under a fake identity. hearing his actual name send a chill down his spine, jumping up from the chair he’d been reading the news in to peer out the peep hole. he hadn’t expected to see anyone, let alone diana standing there.

     door flying open, he reached to grab her wrist, giving her a tug inside before shutting the door. he hadn’t meant to be so rough, but the last thing he wanted was someone to hear and for her end up being involved in his mess. once she was inside, however, it was a different story  –  arms going around her in a way that felt natural, instinctive; she still felt and smelled familiar.

                   “diana, oh christ  –  it’s so good to see you. how did you find me … ?”

         ·𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃, 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄       as she was halted against steve’s chest. the urgency was a little surprising but considering her friend’s legal status, maybe not so much. as relieved as she was to see him, diana was the first one to pull away, her hands on his shoulders, then his face where so much of his facial hair had grown out. she hardly recognized the man beneath the changes; even his eyes seemed to reflect something so broken and downtrodden.

her gaze searched his for a split second. ❛   never mind that. what happened to you ?   ❜  it was a question she’d been wanting to ask as soon as she’d seen his wanted poster, and all the advertisements warranting his arrest on every news channel. she’d done her research into the accords and yet, diana still struggled to understand why the country deemed him a bad man. decades later, the way mankind made their laws was still beyond her understanding or approval. ❛   you are a good man. how could they do this ?   ❜   diana had every mind to storm down and demand that they redact this ridiculous punishment. times were different now; they would listen to her. ❛   i had hoped we would meet on different terms, not like this.   ❜

     “ sorry, am i being brash? i just meant people as awesome as you. “ open mouth, insert foot – her classic go-to when she’s thrown off by someone. she’s lifted back onto her feet with such ease she finds herself grinning all over again. what a woman! “ it’s seriously awesome to meet you, diana. “ & then, she’s scratching at the back of her neck almost bashfully, “ ah, caught that did you? i don’t usually get so easily distracted. next time i’ll pull out all the stops to make up for it. “ followed by, “ maybe you can show me some of those moves of yours sometime? “

     ❛    𝐈𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐌𝐘 𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄, 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐋,   ❜        there was warmth and kindness behind her words, poised regally behind a honey - sultry voice.   ❛    it is ... awesome to meet you, too.   ❜  the warrior - princess nodded, agreeing to a rematch some other time. she was curious about the energy carol’s fists emitted and would have loved to see more of it in action later. the wonder woman looked around curiously, a hand squarely placed on her hip.  ❛    so, are you part of this ... avengers ?   ❜   it was only her first day here so she was trying to scope out what they did, and who exactly these people were besides their public face.   ❛    who is your leader ?   ❜

he wonders who could possibly be in control of the base. nothing happens on hydra’s base without loki KNOWING, of course, not that the knowing helped him escape from the strange contraption the midguardians had developed. his magic was USELESS, strength compromised ( chains made sure of THAT. ) but he was still able to maintain his intelligence. he KNEW the face of panic, understood what the scurrying of the hydra scientists meant. SOMEONE, or something, was invading. he couldn’t find it in himself to get excited about it, however. after all, this invader could prove to be more FOE than friend to someone like LOKI.

he is not expecting HER, in all her glory, to be his savior. and, it appears she very well may NOT be unless he plays his cards right. so he grins, prays that she is susceptible to his silver tongue. “ a prisoner. “ OBVIOUS, of course. “ but they once called me the god of mischief. “ he still WAS, but it was easier to downplay his strengths, for now. 

the grin dissipated from his face. now was an opportune time to observe HER, learn her. “ my name is loki. “

       𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐎 𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐋𝐘       as the prisoner spoke within the confines of his cell. the other hostages had begged her for freedom, wanting more than anything to be reprieved of the horrors that hydra had done unto them. but this one was serene in his cell; he almost looked comfortable, and that observation was enough to keep diana cautious. 

❛    my name is diana, of themyscira, and where i come from,   ❜   she said as she roved her fingers over the buttons.  ❛    gods are not taken prisoner.   ❜  without much hesitation, the warrior - princess pressed the button to release him from his magical chamber. the chains still bound him but without the wall, perhaps they could communicate a bit more freely. it wasn’t like diana was afraid, no-----------she fully believed she could handle whatever mischief the male could get up to. with lightning speed, diana hurled her lasso of truth around loki’s waist, jerking him up and closer to her by coiling the other end of the gold - hot ropes a few times around her wrist.   ❛    the lasso of hestia compels you to tell the truth,   ❜  she ordered firmly.  ❛    now, for what purpose did these men keep you, a god, prisoner ?   ❜

     getting praise isn’t something she’s used to, much less from one as equally skilled. if anything, carol had been admiring diana this entire time to the point she may, or may not have, been a little distracted. taking the proffered hand, carol flashes her pearly whites. “ i have to admit, i have no idea where themyscira is but if you’re from there, & there are others like you? i have a feeling i would have been in heaven. i’m carol. thanks for your help today, it was honestly a blessing to see you in action. “

      ❛    𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐌𝐄   ?   ❜        diana tilted her head just slightly, hand gripped around carol’s wrist to tug her onto her feet. oh, she must mean warrior - types like her, which the paradise was populated with. it probably would have been every man’s dream to live there, but a woman ? she had never met a female human to describe her homeland as heaven until now. the hand in hers turned into a polite shake of solidarity.  ❛    i’m diana of themyscira,   ❜  she nodded.  ❛    it was, perhaps next time i can see you at your fullest capabilities, carol,   ❜  the wonder woman teased, as she’d felt carol had been sparing her her true skill.
