Week 10: What is digital citizenship and how to become a real digital citizenship
What is digital citizenship?
The 4.0 era is predicted to bring great changes not only in the field of science and technology but also in many different fields including social life. Digital citizenship is also one of the most crucial concepts. Basically, these are people who are knowledgeable, knowledgeable and know how to adapt to the use of technological devices, scientific and technical advances, thereby connecting with the people around and the community. In my opinion, to become a real digital citizen, we need some of the following elements (Ershi Qi, Jiang Shen & Runliang Dou 2013). First of all, the skills to use computers properly, participate in social networks in a smart way are extremely necessary (Al-Zahrani 2015). Then, we will know how to behave properly, not join or lead movements that boycott or bully another individual or user. A digital citizenship will not illegally download or post any copyrighted material using torrents or other methods. They respect the effort and brainpower of a project and accept to pay or donate to have documents or apps that they think are necessary for their work and study. Finally, they know how to keep their and their family's personal information private by not sharing locations or other identifying information about themselves or those around them on social media. They understand the danger and trouble if this valuable information falls into the hands of hackers.
Tumblr media
How to become a real digital citizenship?
Firstly, we need to understand how the Internet works in order to use it effectively and come up with the best way to behave. It is only when we realize that the Internet works through the sophisticated interconnection of digital tools that we can continue to explore other factors affecting the rights of Digital citizenship. To get a lot of good knowledge about technology, there are many good documents that can be studied directly at schools and IT training centers. In addition, we also need to have effective self-study skills to best absorb knowledge about the Internet. In addition, Digital citizenship needs to understand user data, how to secure it to avoid the risk of information leaking and being attacked by hackers. Nowadays, most of the company have a website that collects data about their customers. That data can be as simple as the pages someone views, the items they are interested in, or more private than their address, or information related to finances, cards,... In essence, this is a tool to help brands better understand their customers, but letting this information fall into the hands of hackers is really a danger. Finally, digital citizenship is not 24/7 using the internet without caring about other things. One of the important "standards" of Digital citizenship is knowing how to protect your own health, such as refraining from using computers, the Internet and other digital devices for too long or inconsequential. In other words, you must know when to stop working and entertainment on electronic devices.

How the slow fashion saves the world fashion industry and how to "slow fashion" your daily style
What is slow fashion?
Slow fashion is a technique to identify sustainable fashion alternatives based on the repositioning of design, production, consumption, usage, and reuse tactics that are growing alongside the global fashion industry and offering a possible challenge to it (Clark 2008). Slow fashion is the polar opposite of fast fashion. It refers to a fashion awareness and strategy that takes into account the techniques and resources required to make clothes. It encourages the buying of higher-quality clothing that will last longer, as well as the equal treatment of people, animals, and the environment. Investing in these types of clothes, people will be able to maintain their fashion sense, save money and take advantage of the full value of the outfit, while not having a negative impact on the environment.
Tumblr media
How slow fashion protects the environment?
Every time a certain emerging fashion runs out, it is certainly not strange that many people throw away those old-fashioned clothes to follow the new items. All of this leaves a huge amount of excess clothing. Clothes that contain certain types of materials are still less biodegradable and each person can have double, triple, or even a few hundred times as much clothing as they actually need. This puts tremendous pressure on the environment because it is not known when the clothes will decompose with the huge population and fashionistas of the world (Schlossberg 2019). Understanding this, "Slow fashion" helps limit the number of clothes owned by each person, reducing the amount of waste and the energy needed to produce clothes. At the same time, choosing eco-friendly, biodegradable or recyclable materials will reduce somewhat the impact of fashion's rubbish on the planet.
How to become a real slow fashionista?
Firstly, we need to choose high-quality clothes. The quality here is not about the trendy design but about the fabric to ensure the durability of the fashion item. However, not every item is more expensive, the better it will be, so we need to verify for ourselves which brand or shop is the most reasonable to buy. Moreover, to feel not out of fashion, try to choose items that have existed since time immemorial, such as jeans, t-shirts or shirts. Besides, let's be creative with combinations for such clothes. This is not as difficult as you think because there are many channels on the internet about this topic. Finally, buying second-hand clothes is an interesting idea if you want to save more life for a shirt because the old Vietnamese people had already had a quote "It’s old for him but new for me"- Cũ người mới ta.

Week 8: Livestream gaming in Vietnam
The Game Streaming market in Vietnam still has a lot of potential and room for development with a series of supporting factors such as: Young population actively participating in the market amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 epidemic make people change their living, working and leisure habits; multiple platforms compete fiercely to provide users with a better experience and service; the increase in the number of smartphone users and the number of downloads of free applications; etc All these factors promise to create a competitive Game Streaming market with huge profits.
Tumblr media
At the beginning of 2011, Game Streaming appeared in the world and gradually approached eSports fans in Vietnam through the Twitch TV platform. At that time, famous games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft,... attracted a huge number of players and viewers. Today, early aware of the great potential of this industry, a number of media and entertainment companies and companies have decided to invest in the creation of the first platforms for Vietnamese Streamers. This led to a platform war dedicated to gaming livestream and many streamers gradually gained popularity and success thanks to this field. The chart above shows that Facebook Gaming and Youtube Gaming are the two platforms dominating the Game Streaming market in Vietnam, but besides that, TwitchTV and CubeTV are also chasing fiercely.
Tumblr media
So what are the factors that promote the livestream gaming industry to develop strongly in our country?
First of all, the young population actively participates in the game market: With nearly 100 million people, most of which are young people, teenagers play a very important role in the breakthrough of the Vietnamese game market. According to Appota, Gen Z gamers spend most of their time playing games at least twice a day, and more than half spend between 60 and 90 minutes per game. In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic has broken out in Vietnam for more than 2 years. During this time, young people including students have a lot of time at home and the need for leisure is understandable. The total number of Game Streaming views on Facebook according to the report COVID-19 Crisis: Impact and Recovery – Adsota also said that in the mid-2020 period the social distancing order has increased by nearly 82% compared to the previous month. Finally, the fact that most people use smartphones for daily life is also an environment to access gaming livestream. Just need a smartphone, the streamer can work and everyone can follow their idol in the game tournament at any time.

Week 7: Instagram face filters
Instagram face filters and augmented reality
Using Insta filters daily but have you guys ever wondered how it works and what is the magical technology behind it? The functionality of the Instagram filter is based on a facial detection technique that recognizes patterns of bright and dark pixels as separate sections of the face. The image within the frame of the camera is mapped out with a sequence of coordinates that identify these locations as eyes, lips, and other features. The filters are then aligned with these coordinates to ensure that virtual elements remain in position even when the user is not standing in one certain place and moving around (but they have to make sure that nothing covers their face). That is the reason why in Covid 19, everyone wears masks so which makes it difficult for the technique to identify their face. A user can try on numerous designs in seconds before selecting one, snapping a selfie in a photo or video format, and emailing it to a friend. Some filters just provide virtual cosmetics, allowing users to experiment with different cosmetic looks. Others use quirky decorations – flower crowns, dog snouts, flying butterflies – while also changing the visage underneath. According to Word Stream, Over 40 billion photos and videos have been shared on the Instagram platform since its conception and 500 million users use the “stories” feature daily. With this kind of scale and usage, dressing up in the mirror image of a smartphone is no longer just for fun; it has become a worldwide phenomenon. In order to give an explanation about those massive numbers, user can easily reach their fashionable beauty ideal – which was previously thought to be impossible – becomes instantaneously attainable for the masses with the simple swipe of a touchscreen
Tumblr media
In May 2019, Instagram announced that anyone can build custom AR filters using its Spark AR Studio platform. Currently, it is available for Mac and Windows. It’s also easy for other Instagram users and followers to find these filters to apply. Anyone visiting your brand’s Instagram profile can click the new face icon.
The question is why did Instagram create this new feature for all of their users?
Firstly, whether you are a normal user or KOL, you can show off your brand’s personality. Custom AR filters reflect your brand’s tone, especially if that tone is fun, colorful or weird and gloomy. They also often reflect the unique parts of your brand, helping you stand out from your competitors. I remember that last year, I saw many Vietnamese local brands use this feature on their IG story. They first create that and re-up all other user's stories who use their filter. Instagram has started an AR shopping feature with brands such as Warby Parker, MAC Cosmetics, Ray-Ban, and NARS Cosmetics. It allows users to try on brand items from eyeglasses to shoes to see if they fit or are trendy or not without going to the store to try them on. In fact, this is still not 100% complete like trying on real-life clothes, but it is also considered a new step in the filter industry. Secondly, when Incorporating your brand’s logo or symbol into an AR filter, it is helpful a lot in increasing the brand’s awareness. Nowadays, you don't have to worry about your design disappearing because there is one separate part called Effect Gallery displayed in your IG account where everyone can find out. In addition, when people consider that filter and decided to apply your filter in their story, all of their followers will be exposed to your brand. Viewing an AR filter for Instagram Stories, there’s a “try it” button on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. There is no limitation for using filters so your brand can be spread plenty of time without any paying fee.

Week 6: How countries in the world deal with Social Media esthetic templates problem
Posting edited photos of models or social media influencers can create unrealistic beauty standards. As a result, many other users consider it as a beauty monument, they are not satisfied with their true beauty and since then find ways from using beauty apps or even plastic surgery to fit themselves with popular beauty standards. Indeed, not only celebrities but also brands are looking for slim female models, hairy six-pack men to promote their products. We also have to admit that such images are more eye-catching than the truth about the majority of beauties out there.
Tumblr media
This has been described by many countries as a 'problem' and is working to prevent them. The most typical example is France has issued a ban on image editing companies of models appearing in advertisements without notifying the public. This order has been in place since 2017. Accordingly, advertising agencies will be fined if they edit a model's physique without notifying that the "photo has been edited". The fine can be up to 37,500 Euro or 30% of the cost of advertising (Brophy 2017). This rule is to prevent girls from constantly losing weight or having very harsh and unscientific diets just to be thin like models - a very popular trend in France.
Tumblr media
In addition, Norway is preparing to introduce a law that requires influential figures on social networks to disclose the fact that their photos have been edited when posting photos on social networks (Gray 2021). If this is not done honestly, the person who posted the photo may be considered to have broken the law. They argue that the people who have to apply this are those who have advertising contracts and can make money or other benefits from posting on social networks. Photo edits that require notice include body contouring, skin, facial contours... These appearance edits include pre-editing (using "filters" for effect) aesthetic effect when shooting) or edit later (use photoshop to edit). The special thing is that edited photos will have to have a label designed by the authorities to warn people who see the photos. This law is expected to have a strong impact on stars, celebrities and advertising agencies in Norway. Thus, in the face of the consequences of blindly following beauty standards on Instagram in particular and social networks in general, some countries have boldly enacted laws to minimize this for their people. Brands and celebrities should also have a new strategy with this new laws.

Week 5: Platformization
Platformization- and the basics to know
In the current 21st century, when everything from education, business, news, entertainment,... tends to digitally transform to reach more target customers, the concept of platformization is an extremely important factor contributing to this modernization. To make it easy to understand, platformization is a programming term that refers to the interconnection platform that creates the environment in which the software is used whether they are hardware, operating system or web browser… To compete with other platforms, attract customers to use services, experience and transaction support value will be gradually upgraded and integrated. The successful digital transformation strategies of famous digital companies and businesses such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Youtube,... all simultaneously use platformization in the strategy to increase core value and revenue compared to competitors that do not apply this term. On the business front, platformization also contributes a lot to the success of businesses. In the past, people often had the naive thought that business companies, whether successful or unsuccessful, it completely depended on the products they provide to the market while not knowing that competitors are still competing in the digital environment where platformization has been the most popular strategy for the past 10 years or so. In fact, with each company's own ecosystem, including human resources, suppliers, customers, partners, and competitors, they will expand integration, seek opportunities, adjust and harmonize all business factors above.
Tumblr media
Benefits and Weaknesses of platformization
Benefits: Platformization enables the tracking of events and the detection of patterns that provide insights, resource orchestration, and coordinated actions across ecosystem members. In other words, it permits the checking of occasions and recognition of patterns that current experiences and arrangement of assets and trigger composed activities among the members of the environments. Companies can easily interact with partners and consumers, exchange data, co-create goods, and connect services by creating a digital platform. This creates an environment conducive to innovation, new company prospects, and increased consumer involvement and revenues through network effects. It makes way for development, opening open doors for new business, expanding client support and benefits with network impacts. Weaknesses: Although bringing many benefits to many different fields, platformization is still not completely optimal and not a perfect model. If you have a need to manage each specific consumer group, this is not the right model for you because the value chain management capabilities are not excellent. They cannot manage the customer experience chain smoothly and efficiently, which is a strong advantage with a traditional business model.

Week 4: Reality TV
Among plenty of shows appearing on Television, have you guys ever wondered what is reality TV?
Reality TV is a type of TV show that focuses on exploiting real-life situations that arise based on the program's available content and players. The participants often come from many different professions, whether in showbiz or not, and they do not have to be professional actors like in the movies. Just like other types of game shows that we often see on TV, this type of show also has a host (usually one person) and their role is to lead and direct people according to the plot or rules of the game (Hill 2009). Although there are many different formats, one of the common content is that when getting deeper to the next round, the players will be eliminated by the judges, the host, other contestants, or even by the votes of the audience. Sometimes a beloved character with high votes will be returned to the show to create drama and attract more viewers. Some popular formats are talent-seeking programs in general or in particular, such as models, singers, programs with hidden cameras, etc.
Tumblr media
The difference between Reality TV and other types of shows The dissimilarity between reality shows and other programs such as movies, dramas, sitcoms, talk shows, documentaries, news,... is the script. While normal shows will have detailed scripts and cast members in advance and everyone will act as if they have practiced to show up perfectly, reality shows are the complete opposite. The members of the Reality TV organizers based the respect the natural element when running the show, they ensure that everything will be real, sometimes even the element of surprise will be broadcasted. They understand that with the new trend, viewers prefer spontaneity over the impending pre-existing script. That's why the players in the reality show through each round help attract the show. The audience does not know what will happen next. As conclusion, Reality Television is an inevitable development trend of modern television
Tumblr media
Main keyword with Reality TV in Vietnam There is only one word that I want to say: DRAMA. The current specialty from the communication strategy of the Vietnamese reality TV show hits the Drama created by the contestants or even judges. From the first episodes to going deep inside, there is rarely an episode where contestants don't fight with each other or have conflicts to resolve disagreements that attract viewers' attention. In essence, these are highly entertaining programs, so it is understandable to include drama elements because human nature is always hostile to each other. Moreover, people want to watch controversial things, so it is easy to see that the program often pushes the climax between all relevant people.

How does Tumblr function as a digital community?
A digital community is a place where people can post articles, write comments, record videos, etc. to express their thoughts, opinions, and criticisms to the posts of friends and relatives or even other users on a social networking platform that exists in the online space. Devices to support users to use the digital community to operate are smartphones, computers, tablets,... (Foth 2009) connected to the internet or 3G, 4G. Here, the people who are interacting with each other have the same characteristics as the live community, which is to discuss an event or issue together, but the most obvious difference is in the degree of spread. Digital communities allow spread far beyond geography – which means that even if they're not in the same stadium, room, or even different races or countries, their personal opinions user still reaches others in another geospatial.
Tumblr media
First officially launched in 2007 (Reeve 2016), Tumblr is a social networking platform that allows users to post blogs, post and share them with other users. Although there is a common online space with other famous platforms such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest,... Tumblr brings a certain difference - something that determines the survival of Tumblr among numerous social networking options for internet users. For example, Facebook focuses on the wide-ranging connection between people who share a similar interest in the same issue or Pinterest is more inclined to share images for each category such as "make-up", "idols". ", "quotes",...
On the contrary, Tumblr is a digital community for blogging enthusiasts and allows users to customize their personal pages according to the user's own preferences. Different from the boring profile template available on Facebook, Youtube, Linkedin, ... everyone can change the main color for their personal page, use a unique font when naming,... This is a "Unique selling point" that appeals to people who are new to Tumblr using and creating accounts. There's nothing better than being able to design your own personal page on your own personality. Moreover, when it comes to blogging, Tumblr is the founder of a feature called # (hashtag) that helps define the topic of posts, and people with similar interests can read posts and interact with each other easily. Finally, Tumblr also focuses on GIFs (animated images) (Reeve 2016) to give users' posts the ability to express emotions and make them more attractive and fancy than normal posts on other social networking platforms. Especially, those GIFs are present in high quality with HD format which bring the best experience for enjoying the post to the audience.
Tumblr media
It can be seen that, in addition to the above special points, in the digital community, Tumblr has helped the young generation express their personal opinions and feelings on a multitude of issues, in which the issues are considered sensitive. When interested in something, users can search the keyword of that issue after the # symbol and type it on the searching bar. Then a series of blogs about this topic will be displayed without having to find people to share the interest in offline space. In this social networking platform, users have the opportunity to experience an open, safe, non-racist space with open mindsets (Tan 2021). Nowadays, sensitive issues about the LGBT community, women's rights, people with disabilities, etc. are also freely discussed so that people in the same community or even others with this same interest can come together to share. Even those topics are difficult to say and receive sympathy, support, and propaganda of what is right, eliminating prejudices (Strapagel 2021). Understanding this, Tumblr has introduced the anonymous posting function so that users have the opportunity to freely share their stories or opinions without worrying about identity disclosure or discovery by their relatives. This has indirectly supported the people in the LGBTQ community in particular and all users, in general, to freely make friends and express their freedom of expression.
Tumblr media
(Source: Byron, P & Robards, B 2017, There's something queer about Tumblr)
As a final observation, thanks to the impressive futures and the support for the users, Tumblr will develop stronger and stronger in the future and play a crucial role in the digital community.
