Basics of understanding Islam ♥
Have you been interested in Islam or just wanting to understand the basics of it, but you are not really sure where to start or who to ask? This is a quick little Q&A to help you out ♥
1. What is Islam?
Islam is a way of life.
The word ‘Islam’ means to be in ‘submission’ or to ‘surrender’ to God. Therefore the word Islam is not a noun, it is actually a verb! Anyone who ‘surrenders to God’ is seen as practicing Islam ♥
2. What is a Muslim?
The word ‘Muslim’ means ‘one who submits to God’ ♥ It is an adjective describing the person who practices Islam (ie. s/he surrenders to God) ♥
3. What do Muslims believe?
Muslims understand that there is only One God, and He is Omnipotent and the Creator of All ♥
We do not need a medium to pray to God (ie. We do not need to pray to anything else to get to God), we communicate straight to Him ♥ In Islam the more we pray to God and the more good we do, the closer we can become to Him ♥
In many religions the belief of humans being impure and unable to communicate with God directly, is rejected entirely in Islam ♥
Why would God Create you with His Own Hands, to then call you too dirty and impure to speak to Him?
In Islam, we know God is Merciful ♥
“And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.” Quran (50:16) ♥
4. Who is ‘Allah’?
‘Allah’ is the Aramaic word for ‘God’ ♥ When a Muslim or anyone says the Name ‘Allah’, they are saying ‘God’ in another language ♥
Allah = God ♥
5. Why do most Muslim girls, especially, cover their hair? What is that called?
The covering of the hair and certain parts of the body is called ‘Hijab’ ♥ The word ‘Hijab’ means ‘veil’ or ‘curtain’ ♥
God Created girls in a certain way and means to protect them from the potential ‘badness’ of men and other outside elements by veiling them ♥ Girls do not need to wear Hijab fully infront of other girls and their close family members, it is only infront of strange men, as it is a ward to potentially being sexually/in other ways used and/or hurt/taken advantage of ♥
For more information about Hijab and the Elevation of Women in Islam, please read my following blog post: http://islam-for-girls.tumblr.com/post/123625392540/islam-brings-elevation-to-the-status-of-women
6. What is the defining characteristic of someone who is truly Muslim?
Peacefulness ♥
“Allah is gentle and loves gentleness in all things.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
“And We have sent you (O Muhammad ) not but as a mercy for the Aalameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)” Quran (21:107)
For more a little more information about Mercy in Islam, please read the following blog post: http://islam-for-girls.tumblr.com/post/145378234040/the-m-in-muslim-stands-for-mercy
7. Why does the media speak so badly about Islam at times?
People would do a lot of things to get ‘buzz’ about their article, their blog/media posts, and just plainly themselves ♥ Islam is a hot topic word these days, and people like to misquote Quranic verses and Hadith to make themselves more popular and/or to stir controversy for their own reasons.
People who understand that they should not believe everything that they hear on T.V. or simply just in the media, will research the topics of confusion themselves and realise that the information on the media is incorrect and created, not for educational purposes, but rather entertainment and popularity ♥
If you are not Muslim but you are reading this blog post for your own educational purposes, I commend you and thank you greatly for your open-mindedness, and May God Reward you ♥
If you wish to understand the so-called ‘Sword Verses’ of the Quran, please read the following blog post: http://islam-for-girls.tumblr.com/post/145999716790/sword-verses-explained-its-by-time-people
Thank you for reading this blog post ♥ I will be God Willing writing another blog posts about the basic practices in Islam next ♥ please keep tuned to find out more about Islam ♥
I hope this message reaches you all in good health, Emaan, and happiness ♥ Ameen ♥

Sunan Ibn Majah, Fasting Book 7, Hadith 1711
Narrated ‘It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “When the first night of Ramadan comes, the satans and mischievous jinns are chained up, and the gates of the Fire are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. And a caller cried out: ‘O seeker of good, proceed, O seeker of evil, stop.’ And Allah has necks (people) whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every day.”
Sunan Ibn Majah, Fasting, Hadith 1711/1854

Salam alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak, alhamdulillah! Today, the first day of Ramadan 1438 (2017), I recited my shahada. After several years of study of the Abrahamic books, Allah has led me here to this moment. All praises due to most high, Allah. Much thanks to those who helped me along the way @olivesalam @reverthelp @muslimpro. I am thankful for my past, ecstatic in this moment and excited for the future. Please make dua for me in my journey as I make dua for all muslims in theirs as well as for the disbelievers so that they may be revived in this life as I have.

Selam alaykum,I am very particular about islam especially in worship. But sometimes I can not help myself thinking that Allah is really good or merciful. What is the problem? I feel as if Allah loves to hurt the souls of His servants.Teach me
Wa Alaykum as-Salaam
Imagine your 5 years old sister is running fast towards a window and might fall from a very tall building. What would you do? Would you grab her and try to save her? Would you care if she is a little hurt when you try to save her? How would you feel if she did not understand why you did it and blamed you for grabbing her a little hard?
Sometimes we cannot analyze correctly why things are happening. We want things our way but we dont know if it is good for us or not. When we dont get what we want we get angry. BUT:
Allah says:
Holy Qur'an, al-Baqarah 216: It may well be that you dislike a thing but it is good for you, and it may well be that you like a thing but it is bad for you. God knows, and you do not know.
Look what Imam Shafi (rahimullah) says about the topic:
“ My heart is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me, and that what misses me was never meant for me. ”
He also said:
“If you knew how Allah deals with your affairs for you, your heart would melt out of love for Him.”
We have to be sure that Allah would never be unjust or punish us:
Holy Qur'an, an-Nisa 147: What should Allah punish you if you are grateful (to Him) and believe (in Him)? Allah is Ever-Responsive to gratitude, All-Knowing.
Allah also says:
Holy Qur'an, an-Nisa 40. Assuredly, Allah wrongs (no one) not even so much as an atom’s weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it (with respect to its outcomes and the reward it will bring), and grants (its doer) a tremendous reward purely from His Presence (beyond what it may have merited).
Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) teaches us that Allah is more merciful to us than our mothers:
Umar ibn al-Khattab (radiallahu anhu) said: “Some prisoners were brought to the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam), and there was a woman among the prisoners who was searching (for her child). When she found her child she embraced him and put him to her breast. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said to us, ‘Do you think that this woman would throw her child in the fire?’ We said, ‘No, by Allah, not if she is able not to.’ The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Allah is more merciful to His slaves than this woman is to her child.’ (Muslim)
Please try to convince yourself that Allah loves you the most. Sometimes you might feel like you are not getting what you want but remember it is for your own good.
Finally, always have a good opinion about your Rabb:
The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “Allah the Most High said, ‘I am as My servant thinks (expects) I am. I am with him when he mentions Me. If he mentions Me to himself, I mention him to Myself; and if he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly greater than it. If he draws near to Me a hand’s length, I draw near to him an arm’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.’ [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
And Allah knows best
