that was the first words that came out of your boyfriend, no ex boyfriend’s lips. no hi, no hello, no how are you doing. just…’you came’, straight to the point.

but you were used to that. you were used to xu minghao being straightforward and clear cut about what he wanted and what he was doing. and surprisingly, that was exactly what you loved about him.

or at least, had loved about him.

but now as you stared back at him resolutely, balling your hands into a fist as it snowed around the two of you, you could feel your entire will power crumbling as he looked at you with regret. 

no, no, y/n! you promised yourself-

“i- i thought you might not-”

“yeah i wasn’t going to.” you cut him off before he could complete his sentence. it was a lie, a very blatant lie but it was better to say that than for him to see the tears that were now beginning to sting your eyes.

“right.” he muttered, looking crestfallen. for the first time since you had met him, you noticed that he looked thinner than he used to be, with dark circles underneath his eyes. he almost looked like he had been going through a rough time himself. and somehow that made your heart clench more painfully. “i deserve that. i’m sorry.”

“i wasn’t-”

“y/n.” he cut you off, taking a step closer to you. “i’m sorry. i’m so sorry.”

you gulped. “why are you sorry?”

tentatively, minghao reached out for your hands and you let him take them, letting the wall you had managed to build crumble away. “i’m sorry because- because it’s my fault that we broke up. i acted so nonchalantly in the relationship-”

“what do you want?” you asked, your voice now trembling very obviously. you were tired of pretending around him, tired of pretending that you were fine about the break up when in reality it had torn you apart. 

minghao’s eyes widened slightly at the sight of your glossy eyes and he moved in even more closer. “when i was away from you, i realised that-” he gulped, “i realised that i- i really missed you. and i missed how much you always took care of me and how you were always beside me. i missed you so much, y/n.”

“why now?” you whispered, causing minghao to shake his head, as he gently brushed away the tear that had fallen down your cheek. “why now, hao? it- it hurt me so much, you know.”

“i- i know, love. i’m so, so sorry. i just didn’t have the courage after that…i’m sorry i’m such a coward.” saying that he took a step back, dropping your hands. “and i’ll understand and respect your decision if you want me to stay away from you. but y/n, i just wanted to tell you that…i love you. i really, really love you. i’ve hurt you and i’ve broken your heart and i’ll- i’ll try my level best to make up for everything i’ve done and i really love you so much y/n. but i understand if you don’t want to get back with me-”

even before he could complete his sentence, you flung your arms around his neck, engulfing him in a hug. minghao immediately wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you in even more closer as you buried your face into the crook of his neck, tears flowing down freely now.

“you idiot. you idiot.” you sobbed. “i hate you, hate you, hate you so much! i loved you so much hao, i love you so much.”

“i’m sorry.” he muttered, gently rubbing circles on your back. “i’m so sorry love.” then gently pulling you back slightly so that you could see each other, he said, “i’ll never let you go now. i promise.” he looked at you with such sincere eyes that you found yourself believing all his words. “you better.”

The boy ignored your words as he continued with his drawing, hoping you would stop calling him and get back to your own work. The two of you had been drawing and colouring since morning so it wasn’t really surprising to him that you were already bored, but his art teacher had claimed that he wouldn’t be able to draw well since he was left-handed and he was determined to prove her wrong. 

“Mingoo. Mingoo! Look at me!”

‘Mingoo’ looked exasperatedly at you, clearly unamused by your antics. You had placed the entire colour pencil box on your head, balancing it as you tried climbing up the arms of the sofa where the two of you were seated. No sooner had you lifted a leg, your whole body shook and the pencil box came crashing down, spilling its content everywhere.

“Hey!”

You had begun to laugh but immediately stopped when you saw how upset he was. Sitting down beside him, you gave him a sad pout as you gently patted his back.

“What’s wrong, Mingoo?”

“I told you not to call me that! Just call me Mingyu!” He huffed, going back to his drawing.

jihoon watched you from the floor to ceiling window of his art class as you played with the small kitten, a soft smile tugging at your lips. even though it was raining harshly, you made sure your umbrella was covering the small kitten more than you, thus drenching your back completely.

he felt the now familiar jump of his heart as he watched you cuddle the kitten, feeling his cheeks heat up when he realised he was staring. quickly looking away from you and to his half done canvas instead, jihoon wondered what had gotten into him to be mesmerised by you.

you were just another girl, who always came around this time to feed the little kitten that lived near his art class.

you were just another girl who smiled and played with the said kitten even though he observed that you always ended up scraping your knees against the gravel. 

you were just another girl who was so kind, and sweet, and pretty that you were willing to risk your health just so that ‘meowy’ (as you had named it) could be given her food.

and you were just another girl who’s laughter carried through the glass window of his class and slowly began pulling at his heart strings, until he was completely pulled into the sea of feelings for you, never realised when he had started drowning.

so what had gotten into jihoon that he had fallen in love with a complete stranger; with you?

as he watched you take out some cat food from your sling bag, he wondered if he should just give you his umbrella which was next to the door right now. or should he just rush and leave it beside without saying a word, acting nonchalantly like he was just doing this because he saw you getting drenched and not because he was just a dork trying to get your number?

what had soonyoung said? grab the opportunity? jihoon really wasn’t sure if this was the opportunity his best friend was talking about, but maybe he should just give it a shot. if things went wrong (like it usually did whenever he tried confessing to someone) he could just pretend it had slipped from his hand.

he glanced one last time at his canvas before getting up. funny how he was painting a grey rainy scene because the rain always made him feel sombre and empty, but people also said it was romantic, so maybe this was a sign.

maybe when he came back from dropping off his umbrella…he could paint in some other brighter colours. 

as he began getting up from his chair, he saw someone run towards you through the corner of his eyes. he froze as he watched the said person pull you off your feet and cover you with an umbrella before beginning to scold you, all the while you laughed.

jihoon watched the scene for a few seconds until the newcomer gave up scolding you, a smile breaking on his face instead. and then leaning down, he gently kissed you on your lips.

he felt every single muscle in his body tighten as his stomach dropped from an incredible height, a suffocating feeling taking over his chest. he could feel bile threatening to rise up his throat as his head spun.

jihoon could feel his mind literally shattering as he felt his heart stop beating. what- what was happening? you had a…boyfriend? 

as he watched the two of you walk away slowly in the rain, fond gazes at each other, he felt tears sting his eyes.

oh.

finally his legs gave away and he fell back onto his chair, still reeling from the shock.

the feeling of throwing up was getting stronger and stronger as he tried wrapping his mind around what he had just seen, the salty tears that he was holding back threatening to choke him. 

he sat there for some time, exhaling and inhaling harshly to get control of his body once more.

why was he crying? he wondered. shouldn’t he be happy for you? you were being loved by someone as you deserved so shouldn’t the fact that you were happy be enough for him? 

but he wished…that it was him who was making you happy. 

by the time he had the courage to look up at the window again, you were gone. the rain had slowed down to a drizzle and he could see the sun rays peeking out of the clouds. his eyes drifted back to the grey canvas. maybe it should stay like this.

“jihoon?” you called as you stepped into his recording studio, the soft purple glow of the lights overhead illuminating the room. you had been to his studios a million times before but the beauty of the room never failed to catch you off guard, always making you look around once to take in your surroundings. 

“jihoon?” you called again and when you got no response, you stepped in quietly. had he gone out? but it was pretty late-

a soft ‘oh’ escaped you when your eyes landed on the bundle of blankets on the couch, making out the tuft of blond hair peeking out of the blanket as your boyfriend’s head. padding over to him as quietly as you could, you softly shook him.

in other times, you would have chosen to leave him alone, allowing him to rest after leaving a sticky note explaining that you had come and left, stuck on his forehead. but you knew jihoon hadn’t had his dinner yet and it was almost 11, so you chose to wake him up instead.

“jihoon. love, wake up. you need to have your dinner.” you whispered softly, gently patting his head. 

jihoon stirred a little, letting out a small groan as his eyebrows ceased in annoyance. you felt a pang of guilt hit you but you knew it would be worse if you let him be and he ended up sick instead. 

you had to call him once again before he opened his eyes, blinking hard against the soft light as he tried focusing on you. “baby?” he croaked, his voice still hoarse.

“yep, it’s me. i bought you your dinner.” you said with a smile, pointing at the package you had kept on his table. his eyes followed your hand to look at it before turning back to you, gazing at you for a few seconds. 

“what’s wrong?” you asked, smiling softly at him. 

it took him a few more seconds to answer your question. slowly, he sat up and looked at you, taking your hand in his. “nothing. just that, damn you look beautiful in purple. like a goddess.” 

you felt your cheeks heat up at his words as you playfully swatted his shoulder, causing him to laugh. but then, the serious expression returned once more as he said, “i’m serious. you look so, so beautiful.”

“so is purple your favourite colour now?” you joked, getting up to pick the food and another packet that you had kept there. 

“ah shit, this is purple too.” jihoon said, before taking the food from your hand. his face subtly lit up when he saw what you had got for him, causing your heart to skip a beat. despite dating for so long, small actions like this still managed to make you fall in love with jihoon again and again. 

“another banger by woozi.” 

“you worship all my songs way too much, baby.” he said with a grin as he finally began eating. you shrugged at his statement before giving him another smile. “i’m just showering you with the compliments you deserve.” 

“what’s that?” he asked as his eyes fell on the other packet in your hand as you sat down on the bed. 

“this is for you.” you said as you handed him the packet, beaming at him. jihoon blinked at you in surprise before taking it and peeping inside. his mouth formed a small o as he gently pulled out the teddy bear you had got him, staring at the cute little headphones it had attached around its head. 

“do you like it?” you asked quietly, not sure if he was happy with the gift. even though you had thought a lot before buying it, you still weren’t sure if plushies were his thing even if they had headphones on them.

“like it?” jihoon whispered, still staring at the doll in his hand. “baby, i love it. i love it so, so much!”

“oh, thank god!” you said, letting out a sigh of relief. “i’m so glad you like it. to be honest i was worried you wouldn’t like it.”

“why would you think that, love?” he asked, leaning forward to press a soft kiss against your temple. “i love everything you give me. i love everything about you. your entire existence is a gift for me.”

“god, you’re such a flirt.” you giggled, leaning your head against his shoulders. “don’t let the members find out, okay?”

you heard your boyfriend groan at the very thought of it, causing you to laugh even more. “i’ll bury myself alive if i do.”

“no, you can’t do that! what about me then?” you pouted. 

“you’re right.” he said, giving you a spoon of his food. “i could bear all the sufferings of this world for you.” 

you chewed on your food, thinking for some time. “jihoon?”

“hmmm, baby?”

“you look handsome in purple, by the way.”

you felt your cheeks heat up at his words as you playfully swatted his shoulder, causing him to laugh. but then, the serious expression returned once more as he said, “i’m serious. you look so, so beautiful.”

“so is purple your favourite colour now?” you joked, getting up to pick the food and another packet that you had kept there. 

“ah shit, this is purple too.” jihoon said, before taking the food from your hand. his face subtly lit up when he saw what you had got for him, causing your heart to skip a beat. despite dating for so long, small actions like this still managed to make you fall in love with jihoon again and again. 

“another banger by woozi.” 

“you worship all my songs way too much, baby.” he said with a grin as he finally began eating. you shrugged at his statement before giving him another smile. “i’m just showering you with the compliments you deserve.” 

“what’s that?” he asked as his eyes fell on the other packet in your hand as you sat down on the bed. 

“this is for you.” you said as you handed him the packet, beaming at him. jihoon blinked at you in surprise before taking it and peeping inside. his mouth formed a small o as he gently pulled out the teddy bear you had got him, staring at the cute little headphones it had attached around its head. 

“do you like it?” you asked quietly, not sure if he was happy with the gift. even though you had thought a lot before buying it, you still weren’t sure if plushies were his thing even if they had headphones on them.

“like it?” jihoon whispered, still staring at the doll in his hand. “baby, i love it. i love it so, so much!”

“oh, thank god!” you said, letting out a sigh of relief. “i’m so glad you like it. to be honest i was worried you wouldn’t like it.”

“jihoon?” you called as you stepped into his recording studio, the soft purple glow of the lights overhead illuminating the room. you had been to his studios a million times before but the beauty of the room never failed to catch you off guard, always making you look around once to take in your surroundings. 

“jihoon?” you called again and when you got no response, you stepped in quietly. had he gone out? but it was pretty late-

a soft ‘oh’ escaped you when your eyes landed on the bundle of blankets on the couch, making out the tuft of blond hair peeking out of the blanket as your boyfriend’s head. padding over to him as quietly as you could, you softly shook him.

you watched the soft white clouds drift against the pink sky, the sun setting somewhere far in the horizon. it was such a pretty sight and seungkwan felt so nice and warm sitting right next to you that you were sure you were in heaven.

you felt seungkwan rub small circles on your elbow and you sighed, causing him to look at you. “what’s wrong?” 

“nothing. just…thank you for all this.” you whispered, smiling softly at him. you could swear you saw a faint shade of pink dust his cheeks before he deadpanned at you and said, “what do you mean? i didn’t do this for you. i just wanted to escape my house so i made an excuse to my mom that i was taking you out on a date because of how much she loves you.”

jihoon watched you from the floor to ceiling window of his art class as you played with the small kitten, a soft smile tugging at your lips. even though it was raining harshly, you made sure your umbrella was covering the small kitten more than you, thus drenching your back completely.

he felt the now familiar jump of his heart as he watched you cuddle the kitten, feeling his cheeks heat up when he realised he was staring. quickly looking away from you and to his half done canvas instead, jihoon wondered what had gotten into him to be mesmerised by you.

you were just another girl, who always came around this time to feed the little kitten that lived near his art class.

you were just another girl who smiled and played with the said kitten even though he observed that you always ended up scraping your knees against the gravel. 

you were just another girl who was so kind, and sweet, and pretty that you were willing to risk your health just so that ‘meowy’ (as you had named it) could be given her food.

and you were just another girl who’s laughter carried through the glass window of his class and slowly began pulling at his heart strings, until he was completely pulled into the sea of feelings for you, never realised when he had started drowning.

so what had gotten into jihoon that he had fallen in love with a complete stranger; with you?

as he watched you take out some cat food from your sling bag, he wondered if he should just give you his umbrella which was next to the door right now. or should he just rush and leave it beside without saying a word, acting nonchalantly like he was just doing this because he saw you getting drenched and not because he was just a dork trying to get your number?

what had soonyoung said? grab the opportunity? jihoon really wasn’t sure if this was the opportunity his best friend was talking about, but maybe he should just give it a shot. if things went wrong (like it usually did whenever he tried confessing to someone) he could just pretend it had slipped from his hand.

he glanced one last time at his canvas before getting up. funny how he was painting a grey rainy scene because the rain always made him feel sombre and empty, but people also said it was romantic, so maybe this was a sign.

maybe when he came back from dropping off his umbrella…he could paint in some other brighter colours. 

as he began getting up from his chair, he saw someone run towards you through the corner of his eyes. he froze as he watched the said person pull you off your feet and cover you with an umbrella before beginning to scold you, all the while you laughed.

jihoon watched the scene for a few seconds until the newcomer gave up scolding you, a smile breaking on his face instead. and then leaning down, he gently kissed you on your lips.

he felt every single muscle in his body tighten as his stomach dropped from an incredible height, a suffocating feeling taking over his chest. he could feel bile threatening to rise up his throat as his head spun.

jihoon could feel his mind literally shattering as he felt his heart stop beating. what- what was happening? you had a…boyfriend? 

as he watched the two of you walk away slowly in the rain, fond gazes at each other, he felt tears sting his eyes.

oh.

finally his legs gave away and he fell back onto his chair, still reeling from the shock.

the feeling of throwing up was getting stronger and stronger as he tried wrapping his mind around what he had just seen, the salty tears that he was holding back threatening to choke him. 

he sat there for some time, exhaling and inhaling harshly to get control of his body once more.

why was he crying? he wondered. shouldn’t he be happy for you? you were being loved by someone as you deserved so shouldn’t the fact that you were happy be enough for him? 

but he wished…that it was him who was making you happy. 

by the time he had the courage to look up at the window again, you were gone. the rain had slowed down to a drizzle and he could see the sun rays peeking out of the clouds. his eyes drifted back to the grey canvas. maybe it should stay like this.

as he watched you take out some cat food from your sling bag, he wondered if he should just give you his umbrella which was next to the door right now. or should he just rush and leave it beside without saying a word, acting nonchalantly like he was just doing this because he saw you getting drenched and not because he was just a dork trying to get your number?

what had soonyoung said? grab the opportunity? jihoon really wasn’t sure if this was the opportunity his best friend was talking about, but maybe he should just give it a shot. if things went wrong (like it usually did whenever he tried confessing to someone) he could just pretend it had slipped from his hand.

he glanced one last time at his canvas before getting up. funny how he was painting a grey rainy scene because the rain always made him feel sombre and empty, but people also said it was romantic, so maybe this was a sign.

maybe when he came back from dropping off his umbrella…he could paint in some other brighter colours. 

as he began getting up from his chair, he saw someone run towards you through the corner of his eyes. he froze as he watched the said person pull you off your feet and cover you with an umbrella before beginning to scold you, all the while you laughed.

jihoon watched the scene for a few seconds until the newcomer gave up scolding you, a smile breaking on his face instead. and then leaning down, he gently kissed you on your lips.

he felt every single muscle in his body tighten as his stomach dropped from an incredible height, a suffocating feeling taking over his chest. he could feel bile threatening to rise up his throat as his head spun.

jihoon could feel his mind literally shattering as he felt his heart stop beating. what- what was happening? you had a…boyfriend? 

as he watched the two of you walk away slowly in the rain, fond gazes at each other, he felt tears sting his eyes.

oh.

finally his legs gave away and he fell back onto his chair, still reeling from the shock.

the feeling of throwing up was getting stronger and stronger as he tried wrapping his mind around what he had just seen, the salty tears that he was holding back threatening to choke him. 

he sat there for some time, exhaling and inhaling harshly to get control of his body once more.

why was he crying? he wondered. shouldn’t he be happy for you? you were being loved by someone as you deserved so shouldn’t the fact that you were happy be enough for him? 

but he wished…that it was him who was making you happy. 

by the time he had the courage to look up at the window again, you were gone. the rain had slowed down to a drizzle and he could see the sun rays peeking out of the clouds. his eyes drifted back to the grey canvas. maybe it should stay like this.

“jihoon?” you called as you stepped into his recording studio, the soft purple glow of the lights overhead illuminating the room. you had been to his studios a million times before but the beauty of the room never failed to catch you off guard, always making you look around once to take in your surroundings. 

“jihoon?” you called again and when you got no response, you stepped in quietly. had he gone out? but it was pretty late-

a soft ‘oh’ escaped you when your eyes landed on the bundle of blankets on the couch, making out the tuft of blond hair peeking out of the blanket as your boyfriend’s head. padding over to him as quietly as you could, you softly shook him.

in other times, you would have chosen to leave him alone, allowing him to rest after leaving a sticky note explaining that you had come and left, stuck on his forehead. but you knew jihoon hadn’t had his dinner yet and it was almost 11, so you chose to wake him up instead.

“jihoon. love, wake up. you need to have your dinner.” you whispered softly, gently patting his head. 

jihoon stirred a little, letting out a small groan as his eyebrows ceased in annoyance. you felt a pang of guilt hit you but you knew it would be worse if you let him be and he ended up sick instead. 

you had to call him once again before he opened his eyes, blinking hard against the soft light as he tried focusing on you. “baby?” he croaked, his voice still hoarse.

“yep, it’s me. i bought you your dinner.” you said with a smile, pointing at the package you had kept on his table. his eyes followed your hand to look at it before turning back to you, gazing at you for a few seconds. 

“what’s wrong?” you asked, smiling softly at him. 

it took him a few more seconds to answer your question. slowly, he sat up and looked at you, taking your hand in his. “nothing. just that, damn you look beautiful in purple. like a goddess.” 

you felt your cheeks heat up at his words as you playfully swatted his shoulder, causing him to laugh. but then, the serious expression returned once more as he said, “i’m serious. you look so, so beautiful.”

“so is purple your favourite colour now?” you joked, getting up to pick the food and another packet that you had kept there. 

“ah shit, this is purple too.” jihoon said, before taking the food from your hand. his face subtly lit up when he saw what you had got for him, causing your heart to skip a beat. despite dating for so long, small actions like this still managed to make you fall in love with jihoon again and again. 

“another banger by woozi.” 

“you worship all my songs way too much, baby.” he said with a grin as he finally began eating. you shrugged at his statement before giving him another smile. “i’m just showering you with the compliments you deserve.” 

“what’s that?” he asked as his eyes fell on the other packet in your hand as you sat down on the bed. 

“this is for you.” you said as you handed him the packet, beaming at him. jihoon blinked at you in surprise before taking it and peeping inside. his mouth formed a small o as he gently pulled out the teddy bear you had got him, staring at the cute little headphones it had attached around its head. 

“do you like it?” you asked quietly, not sure if he was happy with the gift. even though you had thought a lot before buying it, you still weren’t sure if plushies were his thing even if they had headphones on them.

“like it?” jihoon whispered, still staring at the doll in his hand. “baby, i love it. i love it so, so much!”

“oh, thank god!” you said, letting out a sigh of relief. “i’m so glad you like it. to be honest i was worried you wouldn’t like it.”

“why would you think that, love?” he asked, leaning forward to press a soft kiss against your temple. “i love everything you give me. i love everything about you. your entire existence is a gift for me.”

“god, you’re such a flirt.” you giggled, leaning your head against his shoulders. “don’t let the members find out, okay?”

you heard your boyfriend groan at the very thought of it, causing you to laugh even more. “i’ll bury myself alive if i do.”

“no, you can’t do that! what about me then?” you pouted. 

“you’re right.” he said, giving you a spoon of his food. “i could bear all the sufferings of this world for you.” 

you chewed on your food, thinking for some time. “jihoon?”

“hmmm, baby?”

“you look handsome in purple, by the way.”

“it’s so pretty, isn’t it?” you whispered, resting your head on your boyfriend’s shoulder. seungkwan wrapped his arm around you as he hummed in response. “yeah. so, so pretty.”

you watched the soft white clouds drift against the pink sky, the sun setting somewhere far in the horizon. it was such a pretty sight and seungkwan felt so nice and warm sitting right next to you that you were sure you were in heaven.

you felt seungkwan rub small circles on your elbow and you sighed, causing him to look at you. “what’s wrong?” 

“nothing. just…thank you for all this.” you whispered, smiling softly at him. you could swear you saw a faint shade of pink dust his cheeks before he deadpanned at you and said, “what do you mean? i didn’t do this for you. i just wanted to escape my house so i made an excuse to my mom that i was taking you out on a date because of how much she loves you.”

“hmm. is that so? in that case it’s okay if i call vernon over right? the three of us can just watch the sky together like how we used to do-”

“no.” he said swiftly, pressing a quick kiss on your lips. “all the time the three of us star gazed, i was dying to sneak you off so that it's just the two of us. there’s no way i’m losing this opportunity to be alone with my girlfriend.”

you laughed at him as you cupped his cheeks, kissing the small pout that had formed on his lips. “vernon is going to be mad at us. even when he is with us, he is third wheeling.”

“it’s okay, we’ll make it up to him. if anything, i think he hated it more when the two of us kept giving each other hints but were too scared to ask each other out instead.”

“oh yeah.” you laughed at the memory. “he has been a great friend, to be honest. especially the time he finally convinced both of us to confess to each other, right on the same day.”

seungkwan shifted beside you as he widened his eyes. “no, i mean! what was i supposed to do if my pretty best friend all of sudden whips out my favourite flowers and confesses to me when i literally had my own bouquet for you hiding behind my back!” 

“i’m so sorry! but you were so cute, it was totally worth it.” you gushed, pressing your lips against his again. this time, seungkwan wrapped an arm around your waist to not let you go, causing the two of you to fall back on the ground, but neither of you cared.

finally when you were out of breath, he broke away from the kiss, gazing at you fondly. “you know you’re the most beautiful thing right now, right?”
