Let’s be honest, we all choose a job that gives us a high pay. For me, I love the role that pharmacists provide for our community, but I cannot neglect that pharmacists have incredible salary. Each role in pharmacy practice varies with the pay, and hospital/healthcare system pharmacists are the highest pay, at an average of $129,100 per year, or $62.07 per hour. Every job requires hard work and that hard work comes with a great reward, including a pay raise. Pharmacists will continue to pursue a path that will help the career develop a stronger position in the health care system. As more students graduate, it becomes more saturated, but I believe that pharmacists will get the recognition they deserve and we will employ more and more jobs for students who want to help improve our community.

When I was a kid, I would watch movies of the old days where people extract medicine from herbs. It is quite interesting to me how medicine can be created as natural supplements to help cure ill people. I find the process very genuine because we as humans, have a natural instinct that nature health is good for us. You can extract your own medicine, and it varies for different consumers, but we would rather have someone do it for us. Even though the age-old process is a “natural” way of making medicine, these extracts do need to go though analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical testing, and all requirements to ensure that the final product contains specific ratios for consumers. Why do you think we drink medicine? Is it because it helps us get better? Well, to me, medicine is a quick way to become better when you’re sick, and help patients reduce the ricks of taking oneself to the hospital.

Comparing to primary health care providers, patients may not perceive pharmacists as doctors. It could be said that “pharmacists only work behind the counters and counting medicine, they do not provide primary care to patients.” It is true that pharmacists don’t encounter as much patients physically like physicians do, but they have incredible knowledge of medicine and health care skills. As our society improve, we have more and more patients in need of the health care system, and we are leaning on a shortage of primary health care providers. I live in New Mexico, and New Mexico was the first state to be approved by legislative to give immunization to patients. Many other states are also following the protocol and pharmacists are influencing the health care system that they can contribute their skills and knowledge to help patients in areas that need to be treated. Pharmacists are allowed to do immunization to infectious disease and they are here to help and can do as much as your primary doctor could do. In the state of COVID-19, once a cure is developed, pharmacists will be the front line providers that gives immunization to patients.

Among many many health care providers, I have always wanted to become a pharmacist. It’s a position that I’ve set my future career towards. I’m still determining and doing research on what branch of pharmacy practice I want to aim for, currently I am very interested in clinical pharmacy, which practices in advanced pharmacy protocols. I am very intrigued by how medicine work and how they help each individual become better and healthier. If all of us contribute a good healthy life, it will also improve the community we live in, especially in such difficult times we are going through now. Check if your local pharmacy provide flu shots and make sure to get one right now! Stay safe and stay clean.
