And about the AI opt-out setting Tumblr will deploy tomorrow, I’ll just let you with the words of the person in charge of the heist:

Andrew Spittle, Automattic’s head of AI replied: “We will notify existing partners on a regular basis about anyone who’s opted out since the last time we provided a list. […] I believe partners will honor this based on our conversations with them to this point.”

So Tumblr will notify openAi and Midjourney that you wish your posts to not be used and it’s entirely up to them to comply or not. And as we know, we are talking about some of the less ethical companies on the internet (which honestly is kind of a feat), so that cute little setting will most than probably do nothing and less.

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

This is genuinely the closest thing I've drawn to ship art in the last 5+ years, and I am so happy to be able to upload it today.

Ruby needs no introduction, but that girl with the raven locks of a length to rival Ruby's, well she's Mira.

Mira is a perfectly normal girl who just REALLY likes cooking! She's tooootally not secretly trying to revive a dark god in the most inept way possible which is *actually* just playing in to the hands of a madman seeking true immortality! Nope! Just a normal teen with a perfectly normal crush on another perfectly normal girl. Nothing odd here! No one in this equation is in massive denial of reality!

Belated Merry Christmas! I failed to get this scheduled on time, d'oh! But here is my girl Jiang Ziya from Dragalia Lost! This is also an example of a complete version of one of my open YCHs!

I have SO many memories of playing as her in the high Brunhilda trial back in the day. I didn't get a better water healer until after the banner Dragonyule Lily was available, so I had quite a lot of time with Jiang Ziya since I got her during the banner she was released on! I also really like how she's just really chaotic!

This time is a pic of one of my friend's versions of Gold from HGSS. We're playing spectrum-slid versions of Gold and Silver who got started on their journey later than they'd have liked due to life complications. In this image Belle (Gold) is in an ultra-ball themed swimsuit.

I had a lot of fun referencing how another artist did their hands, but I cannot for the life of me find their account again, so sadly I'm ot able to link them. But know that the hand style *was* referenced.

This is like, the first piece I've finished since art fight, so OF COURSE it's going to be of the version of Silver I've been playing for over a decade now. They were going for "I am dangerous and intimidating" but sort of ended up in "I am a fey creature/nonbinary femme fatale sizing you up".

So, Rainbow000Pegasus has given me some really sweet comments so I knew I wanted to give them a good attack! So I looked over Arielle and was all "OOOH!" because I love the idea of someone who has to be very careful lest their emotions release power on those around them, as well as the distrustful relationship with Grimarye.

I imagined this piece as being more symbolic than literal. The background being the storm on the horizon of their future that threatens to get closer due to the book's corruptive influence, Arielle's spirit burning bright even as the coming rains threaten to burn it out.

I'm not sure how well I succeeded, but I know I had a lot of fun!

Also, if anyone asks why Grimarye isn't listed as a simple-shape character, on account of being a book: He took longer than every step of Arielle hair, because his details took several times to get right, which suggests to me that 'simple shape' doesn't count."

So, technically, I had the pose mostly 3D modelled up before art fight, as I intended to make YCHs with it (and may still do so after some fiddling), but no actual progress on the piece happened until…. about 40 hours ago? Maybe less? Anyway…

I was possessed. I saw the two of them, knew I wanted to use this pose, and once I sat down to actually draw it I got so in the Zone that aside from a 40 minute chunk before a several-hour nap, I finished it in one 5-ish hour sitting.

I. I don't have much I can say. I was so in the zone that I was practically time travelling.

I AM 98% sure I was having a lot of fun during it, though, as I am SO full of dopamine right now.
