zuihuojoui:
He liked to think he was subtle, and so he was. For if thought it, then he was. Who would argue with him? Who could argue with him?
That there was the effect of nobility, the aroma of royalty, the effect of majesty. That ingrained deep within him. From sight of his father, answering insult with madness to the brain and loss of tongue, because one cannot think and speak a second time after insult if one lacked consciousness and organ to do so, to witnessing the ways his aunts answered without answer and spoke without speaking, this was what became apart of him. This was the way of the aristocrat, the noble, and the lord. It was his way and it brought him great joy.
And so, he was subtle.
He remembered the letter. Delivered as he was leaving a meeting, the junior butler answered when asked, as Joui picked the envelope off the his desk. The contents had made him chuckle, glad to see his new brother-in-law had some sense about him. For what better way to summon for questioning, than to tamper with the very cause if the need for questioning. Saturday, he had told the junior butler.
Saturday - 10am West Entrance.
It was written on a notecard with his stationary and crest, sealed in paired envelope and returned to the waiting messenger.
Now, said Saturday had arrived and Joui had taken his horse and gone through the west tunnel out of the Estate. Out of the tunnel, he eased his horse as if it would then go towards the high gates sealing the space from the road but stopped, a footman greeting him and taking the horse down the path. He turned and saw the erected pavilion, above the tunnel that lead to where his clan lay their heads.
He walked over the the grass towards the blowing fabric of the pavilion, where two chairs were set aside a table. Upon the table fruit and snacks were adorned the gilded tiered server, most items of ingredients naturally formed from their home realm. Slowly he padded aside the table, wind blowing back his locks and the arms of the long silk jacket upon his body. White with a gradient shift into black at the hem, golden scales coiled from the hem, around him then the dragon’s body along his back, his head over his right shoulder, resting. His trousers of the same material, loose and breezy. Two golden koi sat over the tips of his ears, connected by golden scales that held his hair back. Clasped over his lobes a golden dragon’s mouth, pearls then extending down to his shoulder.
A handful of lychee he took with him to the edge, imagining the mapping of the tunnel that curved under where he stood and went to his home. Slowly he ate the fruit, wondering what sort of tea he would be served, knowing he gave no preference.
An attendant walked from the small attending villa, “He is here,” she spoke with a bow. Joui nodded, popping another lychee into his mouth as the attendant went back within the villa and he heard the gates opening.
Gowyu was led through the various intricacies of the path to find the royal fae and through it all, he kept his gaze forward, the interest in how he was led there or how it was made to finally have him walking in what was the west entrance itself of no particular interest to him. Gowyu had, however, marinated on a few other interesting points prior to this meeting. In the near past, he might have been annoyed at not being seen immediately, but now he was more about taking the opportunity to assess what exactly many other things he’d started to notice could imply.
First, how strange was it that Joui was trying to sabotage a business that benefited a woman he’d favored for quite awhile. A little too long for Gowyu’s tastes, but were the wheels really not turning in her favour? That was surprising but surprisingly not unpleasant.
That was a thousand times more interesting than the way the road was ending at the beginning of what seemed to be the tunnel leading to the estate, carefully guarded, not an unexpected sight to see. A quick look in that direction and if there was a wonder as to if he’d be led there, it was gone as he was taken away and above in another direction, where Gowyu could see the setting of two chairs and a table, as well as the man of the occasion feasting on some fruits. That was not an unfamiliar sight.
Gowyu took careful steps on the way up the man beside him was leading him to, his movements fluid and languid as he approached, something made quite easy with the tailored to his size trousers he was wearing. He was all but dressed in all black, from head to toe, with lines of green at the hem of the open collar of his shirt. The broidery as well, twirls that resembled poisonous vines for was the emerald encrusted in the design, which would catch on the sun now and then. The same emerald was also tracing several fine lines at the top of his knee length boots; black too saved for that touch of color.
Gowyu had a taste for comfortable over eccentric, a bit of both never hurt however. Plus, comfort made it easier in movements such as the revering bow he was now giving Joui as he finally stood facing him; hand on chest, deep bend and all that other meticulous process that was tradition and would never be undone. Gowyu straightened after giving his respect to his royal brother-in-law, which was still a little strange to find as his reality. But it apparently was. The wind blew a moment before he spoke and his eyes followed the movement of the silky jacket Joui was wearing, it caught light on various symbolic and rich colors on its own. Gowyu absentmindedly arched an eyebrow, gone in mere seconds was the gesture, it could have been believed to not have even occurred if one didn’t pay much attention to it.
Then he spoke.
“Thank you for arranging this meeting and agreeing to see me.” A brief pause as he stayed put next to the chair that was still not taken, Gowyu offered a smile and his voice held an uncharacteristically soft note as he commented,  “It’s nice to see that the family life is treating you well, Dai wa Zenjenkou.”
Well enough to have the time to impede on things that shouldn’t have actually been of any concern to him. Gowyu had assumed it wouldn’t be at least, so why was it that the man was even bothering to bother with this side of his business? He supposed he’d get to the bottom of it with this discussion, that was the idea after all.

In-law tea time. ( @zuihuojoui )
September 23, 2021, Gowyu’s residence
This was a grand hassle and Gowyu had thought he wouldn’t have to meddle in anything after he’d legatated all his business to third parties allies. Apparently, he still had to be bothered at undesired times, but the one that really bothered him was when they would seek him out at a gambling table as if they could not see he was trying to make sure some clueless fool would fall for his tricks. What was the point of not wanting any responsibilities if it ended up falling to him to clean up the mess they were not capable of taking care of? This made no sense.
Things did not turn out exactly how he’d thought they would for his disgraceful sister, but she’d turned the wheel and taken to the traditions, so Gowyu was left with no other choices but to find joy in other aspects of this failure. Various avenues were currently lined up behind him, his shadow only passing by it, or so it should have been. Only his shadow should have been involved in this, not his ink and not even his words. Folded and slid in an envelope, his seal, the melt of a green snake, now a rare sight on any messages, keeping the letter safe and closed before he held it up to the man awaiting his instructions.
“Here is a message, deliver it to Ace of Hearts Joui.” At least that they could do without his help right?
“Where am I to deliver this message, sir?”
Gowyu arched an eyebrow up at the man who stood facing him, he saw him swallow and tug at his collar nervously and instantly wished he had a trick up his sleeves to somehow twist that tie and make sure it was the last time it was wrangled in this man’s sweaty fingers. However, he had a message to deliver and the man’s services was needed for other matters. Gowyu needed him alive to keep carrying out the various shipments of organs without any troubles. Which, funnily, was not working wonders of course, since shipments were being lost left and right. Maybe this particular one wasn’t the right business for him.
It was fun at first, quite the good public image anyways, but at this rate, he’d have to rely on something a bit more him, a little more solid than feeding useless animals. Well, first, he had to get acquainted with the reasons behind these interceptions and knowing the source of it was only the beginning of this task--more like a heavy headache.
“The bank. Deliver it to the bank he owns and do it before I decide to give you mercy and end that pathetic life of yours.” That last thing had him leaning back in his chair, the pen in his hand twirling between his fingers as he watched the man scramble to gather his wits and practically run out of his office. The fear factor was still there, Gowyu’s lips curled on a grin, too bad he couldn’t really hunt as much as he used to. But gambling with people’s luck and wealth was there for that now, there was no way to run out of vices to dive in when it came to Kadeu.
At least that was a winning point.
The message read as follow:
Dear, Dai Wa, Zenjenkou,
I would be deeply honoured if you could find the time for us to meet for a chat over some tea, the date and time are up to your availability. Feel free to use my messenger to send me your reply.
Ko Gowyu.

TIGHT SPACE: Does your muse ever feel that they’re not living up to their own potential?
Hm, he never got considered for the main role of being an heir to his family's throne, OFC he's not living up to his OWN POTENTIAL /takes a deep breath/ Anyways, he's making up for it by playing doll house in Kadeu, it has its limitation, but it's mostly harmless as long as he doesn't step on any of the old geezers' toes.

SNAKES: Would your muse ever keep an unusual/exotic pet?
Yes, all of Kadeu's citizens make for fine exotic pets. Some are disturbingly mad, others stink so bad even a month of bathing could not make give them a naturally fresh scent, but they're definitely all worth keeping in a cage or a glass bowl somewhere, everybody deserve a pat on the head, some rubbing even if by distance with a cane so that none of their disease get transmitted. Kadeu is the perfect pet store. Adopt a kadeu citizen, make your life more entertaining ahem so of course he's into keeping unusual exotic pets. /winkwink

BOOGEYMAN:  Name one thing your muse has lost that they wish they could get back.
Ahem, his innocence. I mean, I never said that. Obviously Gowyu doesn't want anything back that he lost, pffft, of course not, life is about leaving what needed to be left behind and turning into a grown up, duh. Even if as a grown up you're kind of all over the place and super immature, that still doesn't change the fact that no, he's not wishing for anything back. Thanks. Plus wishes are literally for kids, please. /exits stage.

death; solitude
DEATH: What does your muse consider the worst way to die?
Getting killed by some lowlife.
SOLITUDE: Name 3 things your muse couldn’t live without.
I tried so hard to think of three whole things and all I can say is Gowyu only cares about his bloodline. Everything else can disappear, vanish, die, break, get lost, he doesn't care, he'll just replace it. At least, that is what he thinks, don't ask me if it is accurate or not.

How involved is he in what goes down?
On the outside looking in, he has nothing to do with anything. His name has been stripped from any and all contracts. They all bear the name of a third party, any and all profit made from these third parties does not directly go to him either, they tend to keep it stashed in a location that only he has access to. So the only involvement Gowyu has is moving the profit he makes from their hands to this hidden place. Now, if one were to keep a close eye on the inside and how things disappear without a trace from these third parties’ hands, they might just be able to see that he’s not so out of touch with what’s happening.
Does he facilitate the transfers to the Red Fox or is he largely hands-off?
He’s largely hands-off, he does not aid in anything. If he’s helping with something, it’s as if he’s doing it as a higher up just giving a bit of a push to a business partner, other than that, Gowyu does not actively participate in how bodies are moved, or how bodies are made. He definitely misses being there to witness all of that, so this is a big sacrifice. Give him his flowers please and thanks.
Does he plan on expanding this business anytime soon?
He just might. Seeing as he’s cleaning his act, he’s been--making good connections, surprisingly. He should have known playing the meek, know nothing, holds a high status that can be beneficial to you and doesn’t want anything else but ‘financial’ profit out of it image would have gotten him somewhere from the get go. But it was hard to venture there when he was green with the fact that Sayge had already established herself before his coming to Kadeu. But these days, being green with envy will not lead him anywhere, he has to do something else, just his luck. So he’s been filling this boredom with chatting with other highrankers and talking about various topics that interest him none, but interest them plenty. All that’s needed is to act like their worries are the only things that matter in this world and you’re only here to help them alleviate them and that’s it, the cat is in the bag. All this rambling to say, he might have been doing some dirty work for highrankers who don’t wish to get their hands dirty. But it’s all unofficial and there’s no way to prove that a highranker’s worrisome neighbour suddenly not bothering them anymore is because of that one chat they had with Gowyu about it, if you get what I mean.
What about other business ventures, will he be branching out?
Right now, he’s okay with where he is. Drugs (only when it’s needed, this is not a main affiliation for him.), (murders, kidnapping, torture, etc.) organ harvesting, all for the good of others who in turn will grant him even better profit, that’s more than enough isn’t it? When he gets greedy for something else, Kadeu will know.

Had there existed a time when Ko Gowyu had been nothing of what he was now? Perhaps a time when he’d been a young boy, without any worries in the world, playing and running along with his friends. Or even the idea that he’d been close enough to someone to call them more than a mere acquaintance but even worse a friend.
There had been a time as such; it was but long ago.
Tumblr media
The fae realm possessed magic that Gowyu would catch himself missing more than he ought to, because behind all that was ethereally beautiful in his homeland, there also was something ugly that made him nauseous at the thought of returning. The mere thought of finding himself back there, stuck and unable to leave. Gowyu had left something rotten to the core, but the way it’d corrupted him from within, he was not regretful of, rather, Gowyu was grateful for the lessons it’d taught him as a young child.
Two hundred years he’d been when betrayal had landed at the tip of his tongue and the furry of it had sent him almost commiting a crime that would not have seen any mercy, not even from his dear mother. From his father, Gowyu had never expected anything, the respect he had for him would never compare to the affection he carried for Inyri. A conversation between Tooen and Inyri started the spiral, Sayge’s name for the first time putting forth a conflict against their name.
Another one, more sinister than the other, of contempt and how Gowyu would never get them where they needed to be and his sister would be a better bet. But alas, she’d been gone for so long and it did not seem as if she would return anytime soon. That did start to plant the seed of envy, because the whispers came from mouths that had smiled at him, hands that had held him and voices that had carried to shower him with praises that Gowyu had soaked in years after years.
It led to doubts; did his mother also think the same of him while she told him she loved him? Was it the kind of love that was only displaced because the truly adored one was not complying with the rules of her lineage? Gowyu had been red with rage, but deep somewhere within, a place that had ceased to exist now, he’d also been hurt. Far from being the innocent and docile fae he’d always portrayed himself to be, Gowyu had always thought that he’d one day be the pride of his clan.
He’d been socially thriving, the facade had been paying off, he’d been doing so good at making connections, creating himself links that would strengthen his position in the clan; or so he’d thought. Gowyu had been nothing else but a puppet in a game that many had been playing, a piece that was only pushed forward and idolized because the main one had fiercely locked its defenses and refused to let anyone try to climb up to its fences.
The hurt had come from the thought that he’d been getting played as much as he’d thought he’d been playing the field as well. The anger, he’d let it diffuse by returning to his chambers and doing something he’d grow fond of doing over the next years to come; sitting in the dark and letting his thoughts invade him in the shape of shadows that carried somber whispers. In this darkness that would soon come to carry no light, there had been something close to it before the downward spiral.
Gowyu had grown more suspicious, more paranoid of people’s intentions, of all of them, even his own mother. All but one person. Their voices had not been present during the conversation that he'd accidentally heard talking of him as if he was nothing but an insect in a world of predators. Gowyu had had one person to consider keeping his trust in, they’d grown up together. Ran through the years with smiles and laughter that no one else had genuinely brought forth from him.
Contrary to what he’d wanted to seem like for so many years, Gowyu had never felt emotions the way he’d supposed it should have been felt. He’d always had this vague sense of what he should have been and his mother’s affection had slowly softened the parts that had wanted to harden before its time. But this friend had done something Gowyu had never thought himself capable of doing; they’d brought out sincere feelings.
Had it been a spell? The Gowyu of now would affirm it had. The Gowyu of then was only a simpleton who thought this was a gem, something that belonged to him, made for him. He’d jealously cherished this friendship like he’d cherished nothing else before. If he could have locked it up in a shell that only he could access with a magic word, he would have. An idea he’d entertained very young, an idea that had tasted bitter the day his friend turned his back on him and spoke with a venom that Gowyu had never known to taste so sweet before.
Ko Gowyu had always known that snakes were the most powerful; slithering, double edged tongue and the strength to suffocate a prey that outweighed them by triple at times. They were marvelous. He’d always had a fascination for the kind. Dragons had always seemed to be just a bigger imitation of the one animal that ruled supreme. Subtle in the way they preyed, their venom capable of poisoning over a period of time and the warmer the blood, the faster the spread.
But Gowyu had had to get bitten and filled with the cold reality of it, feeling it spread from roots to tips before realizing that he too; had been born with the ability to sink his fangs in veins and never let go until his prey had succumbed to his venom. Because what it’d done to him was to know that the last person he expected to betray him had always planned on doing so; had only befriended because he wanted to have Gowyu eventually present him to the first born of the clan. There would, after all, be no greater honor than to find their place at her side as a mate.
Gowyu had started seeing green, at first, not from envy, hatred, or jealousy; but from the bite of another snake. It marinated overnight in the darkness of his chambers; rather than killing him, it grew and it festered an ugly wound that began to spread like an illness. A fever that began to grow faster than any mold. Gowyu had still had the thought of locking this rotten snake, this time only to see how long one could stay under a rock that weighed heavy enough to crush the bones but not give the mercy of death.
Then his mind lashed onto the one common thing behind everything that had begun to transpire; the first born of the Ko, Sayge.
Gowyu had spent quite a few days locked in, refusing to eat and refusing to sleep as he hissed. He’d felt the scales on his back and down his arms; he’d seen in the darkness, his eyes turn the color of a serpent and he’d found himself unable to speak without his tongue darting forward and sliding against his teeth. The whispers would sound like millions of snakes crawling up his ears, their venom would bulge in his veins and grow exponent to the point that one night he’d slept and awoken to his curtains pulled and a wet cloth against his forehead.
Inyri’s face had come from a blur above his face; Gowyu had felt nothing at first.
“What have you done, child of mine?”
His mother’s voice, he’d always loved the way it sounded; so Gowyu had let himself shed the last of his skin with it lulling him back to sleep in the background.
Tumblr media
After seven days of unrelenting fever; Ko Gowyu had awakened a changed fae.

Mad Man Gowyu, WHO? Make way for BEST MAN Gowyu.
Assisting in the mating of a sister he loathed, next to a mother he adored, and a father he felt apathy for while gaining an in-law in a man he respected and admired would change anyone. Did it change Gowyu? Well he cleaned up his appearance, his earrings are not leaving, but he looks more sleek than he did before. More poised. Calmer. Quieter. More calculating. There’s more to the things he does now than his name and his clan’s reputation in the bowl.
Losing to Sayge should have thrown him in a fit of rage, somewhere deep down, Gowyu was flabbergasted that it did not drive him down a straight path of self destruction. But he had Kadeu to go back to and many things he wanted to shift over now that he was no longer able to plan his way through the way he initially thought it would go. It seems like the sister he knew decided to change her own tune, stubborn as she was, and useless as she had been for so many years, she finally settled for what mattered most to others.
A compromise of sorts. Did he respect it? Not because it came from her. He respected that she finally realized she was good for nothing else than what she was supposed to be. Perhaps looking at it that way did help him with not feeling himself burn with the bitterness of the loss. Because to him, this loss was not one-sided. One might deem him delusional for thinking like that, because obviously, on the outside Sayge got everything she was destined for. Gowyu wasn’t sure getting herself swallowed by her mate was something that he would consider a win for her though.
Guess the dog on a leash was simply a witty and cunning wolf.
Anyways, back to Kadeu after the ceremony and getting the permission from his parents to do so.
Being linked to the Zuihuo’s clan, royals and golden, extended beyond the realm of the faes. Gowyu was not stupid enough to think himself above any laws made by his kin, but any loophole he would find, he would take. First, the change had to be obvious, clean, clear, to the point that it could not be questioned or doubted. The number one thing he focused on was removing his name and his stamp on everything that he’d handled so far in Kadeu. All the way down to the establishments he’d invested in personally.
See, Gowyu now could not simply not get his hands dirty, he also had to get his name even less in the mud.
Zuihuo beat him to the good samaritan act, of course. Or is it simply that Gowyu let him beat him to the act? After all, what he does is mainly laid under the grounds of Kadeu, in the depest slums of all slums. His ways of making contracts have shifted, he’s burned all the old ones he had and set free everyone that owed him a single thing. All but the man who kept him alive of course, theirs were simply modified.
Gowyu hired an accountant by the name of Leonidas, a half-fae, the apparent cousin of a man who lost his life to a foolish act to climb up a social ladder. This alliance came about when Gowyu came into the possession of Giolas’, the deceased cousin, property. The palace hadn’t left him with a bad taste, plus he needed something that was more palatable than the house he kind of tarnished with the image he once had.
This is a clean state.
What does that entail?
A shelter for the poor without his stamp, but the one of a certain Leonidas. 2022
Underneath this good act, what lies there? Something no one in Kadeu should be privy to, but what’s inside of the wretched poors of Kadeu does not go putrid if it is saved just in time to be harvested for the good of another community.
An alliance to a once favored courtesan so that she can help those of her kind without his name on any of the deal, but the benefits falling right in his lap. 2021-2022
Underneath this good act, is there yet again, an ulterior motive? Something again that will need to awaken no whispers. The poors that are being fed to the fox community in this restaurant couldn’t have had a better purpose in life. As well as the bodies he has to dispose of, both from the past and those to come.
Freeing the poor unfortunate souls he once wished to torture until their final breath and having the good news delivered to them with a basket of fresh fruits. 2022
Underneath this, where would the motives lie? Nowhere else but the image he’s now pushing forward. Gowyu wants it clear that he’s no longer the man they once thought he was. Whatever bitter feelings they now have towards him, he wishes that they let it out in private quarters with the man in charge of handling that side of his business. Whatever occurs during these meetings, he cannot be held responsible as he’s given complete free will for his men to do as they wish. If there are bodies, they will be taken care of. If no blood is shed, then no blood is shed.
Gambling still for the simple joy of it and giving people more luck without awaiting anything in return. 2022-2024
Underneath this, what are the hidden benefits? Well, Gowyu has been learning that doing good without expecting anything back in return, or acting like nothing was expected in return made people more eager to please in order to receive even more of that good. Apparently, the clean state on this part has been more beneficial than the blatant hidden animosity he had for these people for the longest. He still loathes them all. But the better hidden his motives and stance towards them, the better they were all but pouty in the palm of his hands. This is a foreign and newfound power he’s very keen on exploring more.
New addition--a rather constant correspondence with his mother, who has been having talks of finally being able to start focusing on her other children and finding their mates. 2023-2024
There are no hidden motives with this new development. Gowyu simply thinks it is now, more than ever before, important for him to have his mother continue to see him as the son she always did see him as.
The demon in his life has played a big part in helping him rebuild this image. 2022 - PRESENT
The only one here with hidden motives is the demon itself.

saygeko:
As much as Sayge enjoyed calling her brother a bastard, he was no bastard at all, not all the meanings of the word, at least. Born over a hundred years later than her, Sayge couldn’t recall a time when they had gotten along. Perhaps the Fae came to smile upon seeing her little brother when Gowyu was still crawling and couldn’t form words, but after that, Sayge couldn’t recall a pleasant moment with him. They were not compatible, too similar to each other, some said, and Sayge would cut the tongue of those if she heard such words being spoken.
Tea. Giolas invited them over for tea and pastries. Sayge had declined more than ten invitations before giving in and accepting, but now she regretted doing so. Not only would she have to waste her time with Giolas, but she should also have to breathe the same air as Gowyu. The evening couldn’t get any worse. The sarcasm in his voice didn’t wait to show up as it always did. Sayge wanted to roll her eyes. She’d rather be at any other place but there, to others he may sound pleased, but she knew better, to her regret, she knew him too well. “It does sound lovely,” she agreed to his empty words with a small smile, a fake one, and followed along to where the tea party was going to take place. “I can’t possibly think of a more pleasing way to end the day than enjoying a fragrant cup of tea.”
She took a seat and held back a sigh that so desperately wanted to get free. Annoyance consuming her, she leaned back onto the velvety chair, her back remained straight, perfectly sitting the way everyone with some education should, and placed her hands on the wooden arms. Gowyu’s sight was on her, following each of her moves, exasperating as he always was.
The tea was first to arrive, without a trace of the host coming back yet. Sayge’s eyes lingered on the servant as he set a tray with a teapot and cups, following the helper carefully display the cheap china, anything to keep her eyes away from her brother. She would not address him, and if he had any decorum in him, no words should leave his mouth as the elder in the room was not starting nor engaging in any conversation. To hear Gowyu’s voice again would be some type of torture, his existence made Sayge’s life unpleasing.  Yet, she knew his mouth could not stay shut, their mother had lost her precious time trying to teach the younger anything.
Nothing could her bastard brother say to get Sayge’s attention. Dull and repulsive was all he was, since birth, undeserving of her time. His hate for her was no mystery to Sayge, nonetheless, he followed her. There was no reason for Gowyu to cross the portal, not even one, his desire to follow his older sister was the only explanation. Their clan did not need his ineptitude, not at the Realm and even less at Kadeu. He had run away from the whispers of the elders, as they went on and on about how he had not reached any remarkable point in his cultivation. If Gowyu couldn’t take his eyes off Sayge was because she had everything he wanted, she was what he wished of being. Sayge was gold, Gowyu was coal.
Sayge was born with good fortune, all Kō were born lucky, the difference between her and him was her hard work and her gift to evolve her mana to a point Gowyu couldn’t even dream off. He had rested on the privileges of being born a Kō . His luck was only that, good luck. Sayge sat on the throne once their father abdicated not only because she was the heir of their clan, but her aptitudes were superior. She blessed her kin with her birth.
The Koi ran her fingers through her long locks to finally lay her hands on top of her lap, giving a glance to the servant, her order clear; Sayge wanted tea.
#the world will watch sayi ang gogi diss each other to no end#while drinking tea and eating macaroons
The tags did not lie. No blood was shed during tea time, it is a respectful time, we do not disturb it. Giolas did encounter a less fortunate fate once the siblings departed. Both of them sent out assassins to get rid of this pompous good looking fae who thought he could just weasel his way into their good graces by getting them both on his side when they stay apart FOR A REASON.
Anyways. He died. One assassin got to him before the other, but the gag is, they both told their boss that they were the one who killed him. You’d make a deal to not let the other person know that you didn’t do what you were sent to do if you were them too, okay?
FIN.

achelois50168:
the second someone stops his hand and wraps their fingers around his wrists he gets even more angry. then his index and middle finger find their way to gowyu’s lap-dog’s wrist and he listens. the first thing he hears is the other’s heartbeat. it’s familiar, muffled by his thick skin but still strong and periodically. he can hear his blood flow in his veins and his organs work, but there’s nothing that sounds a little off, nothing he could use against him. sometimes he’s lucky and there’s a women with endometriosis that feels stronger pain when she’s punched into the gut or a man with signs of an appendicitis who he can defeat with a single punch in the right area. but there’s nothing he can do against the strongarm (who’s apparently called kihyun).
for a moment, samuel thinks about the possibilities he would have if he could do other than healing, if he could simply focus for a few seconds to make his heart stop, change something inside his body, weaken him, anything. the harsh reality is that he’s helpless and that gowyu is very much not bluffing. that’s the only thing he can do, listen and bluff, but he’s sure the fae would get behind his act rather quickly. that means he has to come up with a good reason within a few minutes.
“prove that you haven’t changed within the what, forty years of having me work for you? you really do have fun with making people suffer.” samuel is a fantastic healer, but even he has limits of bearing pain. depending on what gowyu means with turning his useless hands into dust he’s either left with multiple broken bones, no hands at all or something he really doesn’t want to visualize. the healer didn’t even try to fight against the strong grip. growing up with two brother’s of the lap-dogs kind, he knew that it was horribly easy for the other to kill him within seconds. and he wasn’t exactly keen on that. again, depending on how bad the injury would be, he’d have to ask someone else for help (most likely fallon, which he wasn’t exactly keen on either).
the issue was, no matter how hard he tried to think, he really couldn’t come up with something good, a good reason to simply let him go. without knowing, they were thinking about the same thing at the same time. he was disposable - at least for gowyu - more than he would ever like to admit.
“dearest sir gowyu..” samuel is mocking him, “i’m sad to admit that there is no good reason i could give you not to do it, only more to do it. your number one reason is horribly stupid, though. i’m sure that your dearest kihyun right here can have his fun with me in a few minutes because from my side, there’s nothing i have against some broken fingers. after all, my fingers and your men have known each other for some time?” the situation seems a bit hopeless and he tries to make the best out of it through winking at kihyun. while samuel despises their or rather his current situation, he could never forgive himself for simply allowing gowyu do dispose him. his brothers would never know what happened to him (or gowyu would let them know through leaving his body somewhere in clubs) and the few friends he has wouldn’t either.
so, dying is not an option. a few broken fingers are.
the healer watches as the fae goes back to his table to light himself a new cigarette. he’s sure that if he got the chance to check the other’s vitals, he would be able to find traces of tobacco in his body.
“i’m sure that smoke is important, but i’m waiting, love? i don’t have all day.”
Bleh, more words.
If he could gesture the sentiment he felt, he would--not. Some people thought that they had to give even a bit of something, whether it be outrage or distaste, Gowyu was more about making sure he showed just how disinterested he was by being exactly that. The definition of apathetic. Besides, to show even the slightest bit of action might let these meaningless situations linger and he absolutely did not want the stench of these people staying in his mind, or reminding him of the places where he might have met them, or accidentally touched them. Right now, he wanted a bath, something not as sweet scented, a subtle touch that would erase the very idea that he had to entertain so many lowlives in the span of a few hours when it should have been his solitary time.
“That’s settled then.” Gowyu said nonchalantly, whether Samuel cared or not for what this meant for him, and the parts of his body he most likely treasured most tham he did in his life. Because certainly, this was not the act of someone who treasured their ability to breathe, especially in his presence, clearly not. Gowyu would be damned to think that his life had any value, if he couldn’t understand the featherless weight of it whenever he was facing Gowyu with words, and more words, that probably were insults as well. He would try to think of a permanent solution to this problem though, he couldn’t afford for his remaining staff to think he’s sparring Samuel any crumbs, now that would be disastrous.
That bath might give him sufficient down time to think it through. For now, Gowyu stumped the end of his cigarette on the ashtray and turned back to the scene he was getting ready to leave. “You can do what you want with him, just make sure it takes him more than a while to lift that hand of his again.” Hopefully that was his dominant hand, “When you’re done have someone toss him off my property and clean up this mess.”
Gowyu didn’t have to tell them explicitly what to do, they had their own ways of getting rid of the pent up pressure he was sure they felt from being in the palm of his hand. It was a good way to let them deal with any resentment they had for his way of handling them. Let them break a thing or two, or even slit a throat or two and they were back to feeling superior, something they weren’t made to feel a lot working for him. Gowyu might be the reminder of their shortcomings, but he knew how to make them forget that for the long run. He’d learned from the best of his kinds.
A knock on the locked door and he walked out without another word, his thoughts no longer on whatever he wasleaving behind. Gowyu felt sticky with poverty and disease, and it had him shedding his clothes on the way to one of his private quarters, letting them trail behind him without a worry for whoever would have to pick up the pieces. Matter of fact, he turned right before entering to face the one man who was following behind him, he had to be accompanied at all times, or else, “Get one of the maids to burn these clothes.”
The last of it came off and Gowyu disappeared behind the door that held the tools to instill great pleasures, damp, warm and free of the pestilence of this city.
THE END.

achelois50168:
one second samuel feels a bit dizzy and the next second he’s up on his feet. the blood is already drying on his hands and on his clothes and he’s sure that he can simply throw them away or give them a special treatment at least. it’s as if he tries to shield the limp body of the boy from the sadistic, nasty and disgusting heart that has watched the scene like a movie or a play at diamond theatre. or at least he makes it seem like he was with the stupid, stupid words that come out of his mouth. he’s not quite sure if it’s the adrenaline that makes him mad that quick or if it’s just the fact that the other is stealing his freedom. if he thinks about it, he has never been a free person.
“huh.” samuel’s mouth falls open and the first thing he wants to do is take gowyu’s words and punch them back into his disgusting and ugly face until he’s the one lying on the floor and bleeding. he has to be fucking kidding him. he’s sure that if the other had basic knowledge about healing, he would have never said something like that (he probably would have, anyways). “well i wanna see you getting your hands dirty like that and fixing a spine, organs and bones at the same time. then we can talk.” he doesn’t talk, he spits the words out like he’s spitting fire.
most of his life he had been made aware of the fact that he wasn’t good enough. that he was just a defector from hearts territory that “you will never be able to be as good as we are!”(boyan) and “you’re just too small and weak”(one guy he lost a duel too) and “just not that good of a healer”(a patient that he wasn’t able to heal properly because he came for treatment way to late.) so, gowyu’s words hit a bit too close to home.
at first, he doesn’t show a reaction at all, simply watches the two men take place next to the highranker and stays silent. then, out of nowhere, he takes a few steps forward until he’s sure that his cute little lapdogs can hear his heart beating. he wonders how they even allowed him to get this close (maybe it’s the blood on his clothes and his piercing gaze. or they just wait for gowyu to make a sign.)
“maybe you shut the fuck up and search for a new healer if i’m not good enough anymore. maybe you search for another poor soul and take the only thing they have just so they can get a little bit amount of money. so they can at least live a better life before you come and take everything from them. my words don’t get to you? oh, i’m perfectly fine with that. but try to find someone else that comes running to you whenever you send someone out to get them. what are you gonna do, sell me to another rich and egoistic highranker that cares about nothing but their ugly self?”
he shrugs.
and then, it’s not the man that just lost his child that tries to slap the ignorance and asshole-personality out of him, but samuel.
samuel had words, lots of them, and none of them felt like they were saying anything at all. see, gowyu couldn’t quite understand this about people who loved to go on and on about aspects of life that went against their wishes. if one had to speak, especially with supposed vehemence, they could at least make it worthwhile for the person they’re speaking to. this wasn’t worth his time, it’d be a waste to pay any attention to the young healer’s outrage. gowyu had seen dozen of them prior to this and really, what did samuel expect? that he’d turn around, give him an apology, or tell him that he was obviously right and the world had to cater to his will because he was hurt by a comment someone made? because gowyu was more than certain that his remark on the possible incompetency of the healer had hit home. just like he’d thought it might as soon as he’d uttered the words, but he was still pleased by the result.
there was one particular reason why gowyu did not turn and give his back to samuel from the moment he suggested something as ridiculous as the idea of gowyu getting his hands dirty. what were those weaker of mind and souls good for if they couldn’t get the job done for him? probably a pathetic death. like the child now responsible for some other pathetic being pain. either way, gowyu wanted one thing out of his way before he could address samuel the way he intended to. this was all grating on his nerves. the deal with the father was somewhat lessening the irritation of some good for nothing trying to get a rise out of him, and that was why gowyu made sure to simply watch as samuel increased in aggressivity. his men also looked somewhat worried about what to do, but they wouldn’t be silly enough to not budge was the threat of any seriousness. samuel had been handled with proper care once before, it wouldn’t be any different tonight.
as such, it wasn’t a surprise to anyone that his daring gesture, the hand that gowyu watched disappear behind the shield his man immediately raised against the violent act that was to be committed against their boss. these men weren’t under his protection and leadership simply because of their menacing stature, each of them had something specific that made them the perfect guards. some were bulky, others lean, some were more hard headed than others. but all these skills combined into one and made them versatile in the way they reacted. the one that had samuel’s hand right now, would need a second of tightening his grip to shatter the bones of his wrist. gowyu knew, from the way his head was tilted to get the order that all it would take would be his words. but he also knew that the father who had just lost his son might need to compose himself a tad bit more before he came to understand in the hands of who his fate now rested. see? he had a bit of compassion.
so rather than have a healer’s hand unable to perform or forced to be healed itself, for now gowyu settled for looking over his right to talk to another one of his men. “have the child’s body taken care of and take care that mr. wright here leaves with something to help him gain composure.” he didn’t need to enunciate that samuel needed to be isolated from all and every eyes, because he could hear the rustling and the shuffling, and the door closing behind the men and the father, as well as the sound of it being locked from the outside. once that was all done, the silence that fell over the room gave a bit of momentum for gowyu to assess his logical way to proceed. his man was still holding onto samuel, of that he was sure. it wouldn’t matter how much the young man struggled, if he did, the grip would not lessen, it might end up hurting even more. this one in particular had been preyed on for his strength, he was of a certain species here in kadeu that surpassed the physical power of all others. kihyun was a strongarm, and not just any kind. a well seasoned one, who’d just so happen to have a taste for fortune. a taste that cost him his freedom, like many others, and like many others, he’d also had a ‘rebellious’ phase. gowyu considered this part of the whole ordeal.
this meant that samuel’s outburst was nothing new, it would never get old though. it did make him sigh, he could begin to understand how his mother felt with her first born not complying to the traditions of their land. gowyu didn’t have the patience of a mother though, he let his eyes go back to kihyun’s back and spoke once more. his words meeting the wall that was his bodyguard, but clearly crossing through and addressing the young man being held forcefully still.
“give me one good reason for me not to let kihyun turn these useless hands of yours to dust tonight.” no, gowyu was not going to respond to anything samuel had had to say. “because i have a dozen ones as to why it would be the most fitting choice right now. number one; you’re such a fantastic healer that it’d be a breeze for you to fix yourself, right?”
he’d had his fill, now it was his turn to settle in and relearn the reasons why it was never a good idea to simply lose your temper, and raise your hand against the man who kind of held your life together. for the measly price of showing up when needed and making sure gowyu didn’t lose his best men to serious wounds. that was the only use he had for him and even though he wouldn’t grant samuel the answer, it was quite obvious that gowyu could get anyone else to do this job. was samuel thinking of himself as indispensable? well, the truth was, he wasn’t. there was a list, there was always a list. if samuel had to be discarded, which would be the most likely route his value was not worth putting back on the market. gowyu would rather have him off any market, and in that case someone else on the list would be given the priority of being pulled into his den. it was easy as pie. how come no one ever understood it until it was too late and too much damage had been done? life was easy. you either owned, or you were owned. easy. it was so fucking easy and gowyu was growing quite cheap with the patience he was giving to these filthy spawns who just. couldn’t. get it.
fuck, he needed a smoke; he went back to his table to light himself a new one while waiting for samuel’s answer.

cherrykadeu:
all drama must remain on stage
Diamond’s Theatre District. The Palace. The bar.
Into the Woods.
@gowyuko
Broken bones and spilled blood were nothing more than daily occurrences in the lives of those who had the luck of being born as clubs. The pride that grew on their chests after challenging someone to a fight, only to win, was directly linked to their idea of fun.
A faction that for centuries had relied solely on the unnecessary fights and the reckless behavior of its citizens was a faction that the young fox had learned to despise. So, there was no surprise that over the years, after Nari had chosen to start her life over, that The Palace had become one of her favorite places and the plays one of her favorite sources of entertainment.
Nothing could compare to how the strong lights illuminated the stage, the breathtaking performances of the many actors who put their hearts and souls into their work, the gasps and the pleased laughter of the audience as the play progressed, it was all so glamorous and addictive, even as a low ranker Nari had a hard time trying to force herself not to infiltrate amongst the audience to try and watch just another performance, no matter if only for a few minutes.
But, how things had changed for her. Sitting down at the bar, wrapped up in gold, with the gift of her most beloved around her neck, hair perfectly styled away from her face and into a high ponytail, her signature red lips touching the brim of the glass as she casually sipped her drink of choice, the young fox awaited for the evening performance, eyes searching the room out of simple instinct.
She had come alone, but it certainly did not feel like it. Even if she could not see it, she could sense it and she knew that someone was always watching her, following her movements attentively only to afterwards inform their master of the events that had taken place, it did not bother her, if anything she had learned to find it quite amusing and besides that there was nothing she wished to hide from Joui.
Everyone was properly dressed and she fitted in perfectly, made no one question her sudden appearance. It was known that other highrankers absolutely found it delightful the presence of another highrankers, perhaps even enjoying more the conversation that took place before and after the play than the play itself.
However there was a certain someone that was able to catch her attention, standing out in the middle of the sea of other highrankers. Guarded by two men, was someone that she had heard so many stories about. Never once had she been able to be in the same room as him, not had she ever laid her eyes on his figure, however there was no room for doubts, his reputation followed him everywhere, his posture let everyone know exactly who he was - a Ko.
Tumblr media
Standing up at once, Nari was quick to cross the bar approaching them with confidence, until one of the men that accompanied the fae stopped her. A hand wrapped around her wrist, making her halt her steps in a sudden manner, the drink that was positioned between the fingers of her other hand overflowed the glass and spilled unto her hand.
Her eyes met Gowyu’s only for a second before she looked at the other man who was holding her wrist. There was a flash of anger in her eyes as she looked at the intimidating men, the absolute disgust present on her face at the unwanted touch to her skin, a disgust that now she did not need to hide.
Still, this place made it so easy for her to slip into the character that she knew best, the one she had created for herself years before when she started working at The Red Dragon, but it also made it easy to create the new one she wished to one day become.
Nari raised the hand that was holding her glass, to her lips, but instead of drinking from it, her lips met the glistening skin of her hand tasting the spilled drink. The corner of her lips curved slightly as her gaze never left the other man, just trying to make him uncomfortable in the worst way possible, before she finally decided to twist the wrist that was being held hostage.
Her hand gripped the other man’s forearm with just enough force, the black ink that showed that she was favored by the Zuihuo Clan demanded way more attention that any of the other marks that were now on display for the other to see. “I have insurance” because this was more than just a free ticket for her to go wherever she wanted, this was exactly what she had said it was, so if the other wished to cause her any harm, Nari was sure that someone would make sure he faced some consequences.
Looking back at the person that she had come to see, Nari was able to present one of her best smiles “I just wanted to introduce myself, was that wrong of me?”
Gowyu was not fond of the entertainment that The Palace offered. He found the whole thing tedious, boring and lacking the creativity compared to what existed back in fae realm. But it was also home to many other pretentious minds and as such it made for a great hunting ground when it came to showing off the status that he held and how well he was supposed to be carrying the title of it among the ruins of this city. Basically, he was only present in such premises because of the image it gave him. Besides, certain people who were regular of the Palace did not really fit in with the kind of presence he wanted to have around him on a daily or constant basis. However, he’d take the joy of the bar, and the surrounding of his own security, which promptly made it obvious that to bother him while he was minding his own business. Tending to his own pleasure, with a round table somewhere that was quiet and maybe with the company of one person.
Oftentimes, that one person would be someone he was dealing with, or the man who took care of the smuggling of his earnings. It’d be safe to say that Gowyu would never let himself lose an opportunity to keep his affairs growing, or oversee how they were being handled even if he was supposed to be here for his own pleasure. Pleasure and business went hand in hand for him, every second was an opportunity, and just because he did not look like the type to grasp the idea of how to build an empire--his parents had said so once, although he hadn’t been invited to that private conversation. Those had most likely been words sprouted out of frustration for the situation that their oldest was forcing them to take in their world. But they’d fueled his desire to prove everyone wrong, his parents included. They wouldn’t approve with the reasons why though, so even if he knew they would not necessarily chastise him for his ways, especially his mother more so than his father, he also knew that he couldn’t let them see what it was that his intentions were. Because to reveal one side without the other, would be a hard thing to do.
Besides, he kind of knew the idea of letting all of this behind him whenever he wished to, no harm done, no traces of it staining his pristine reputation with them whenever he saw them or whenever he might need to head back home was the best escape route. Gowyu was no idiot, he had many plans, being left behind to rot was not one of them. He would simply enjoy the ride up, and if it had to come down, he would also enjoy his way out of it, although the time right here at The Palace’s bar was the only part of this night he was fond of. Although, it seemed as if someone had taken notice of his air of boredom lingering in the air. After all, the man who was sitting across from him, a cigar in his mouth as Gowyu sifted through the papers between them, was not what he’d classified as the best entertainment to be offered in Kadeu.
So Gowyu took the the light commotion that came to his ears with a more welcome interest than he would have, considering the guest was an uninvited. Any other day and it would have irritated him if it hadn’t been a welcome distraction from the monotony of the reports his eyes were scanning through. Gowyu wasn’t supposed to be seen doing this though, fingers through papers, mind seemingly working through things that were supposed to be above his expertise and skills, so he was quick to shove them towards his partner. The way they fluttered around the table as he leaned back in his chair and tilted his head towards the woman who one of his men had been quick to stop from making her way further towards him, that was more befitting of the image he was supposed to be showing. Forgetting the grumbles of the man bending to gather the papers, Gowyu watched the whole spectacle of it unfold with growing interest.
The first thing he acknowledged was that he knew the face of the univinted guest. It was hard to not recognize it, he couldn’t place a name on it because he rarely cared to put that much importance on people, especially those he did not have any significan dealings with. His assumption was then proven more than correct when in the midst of the altercation with his man she flashed the ink on her wrist, at least she knew better than to not prideful of the prestige the mark that proved her property of the Zuihuo’s heir gave her. It had to be the high of her day, to be able to prance around as if she was more than what she really was. A word he’d keep his mind free offor now, he didn’t wish for it to slip past his lips in such a public area. But, also, he was more piqued by the reason why she had any interest in the initiative she took to come seek him out.
Now that, that was something Gowyu had never thought he’d ever see occurring, you see. Not to misunderstand him, because he might have put some pieces on her chess, he might have simply nudged them now and then, and he might have a strong one in his hold, waiting to be able to shift his ‘Queen’ where she belonged, but for one moving piece to find its way right in front of him, under the tingling of his fingers that never tired of this game, it was an unexpected turn of events he was not averse to. Because this was not his doing, there was only one other conclusion to such a strange occasion; Sayge.
Because where Joui’s presence was felt, hers was never too far behind, Gowyu had learned that very young, and it still rang true to this day. Nauseating. He took in her smile, and listened to her before nodding and throwing a gesture at his men, as well as the teller who had managed to get all of the reports back in his hands. The directions were silent but clearly understood, his men opened up the way for her to come in and the teller bowed his head, a few more grumbles under his breath as he was also bowing his way out to the woman who was clearly going to be taking the chair where he was sitting. It was once his partner was gone that Gowyu remembered he had to show manners, this wasn’t one of his Den, this was a public setting and he stood with the reverence of a man who was doing this because he cared.
So he rose at once, not in any eagerness or hurry, he had all the time in the world for where the wheels were shifting. Hers would either go right in the way she hoped to, or they would dive further wherever they wished to, fortune was not always such a straight to the point lover. She loved to dangle, Gowyu hardly understood the gripes of her needles, but he could still manage to play to her will and get what he wanted from it. To start with, a small smile and a hand gesture to the now empty chair facing his, “I apologize for the dog-like behaviour of my men, they can be rabid, but they don’t mean any harm.” A white lie, as the harm would have been caused later on had she not been of interest to him.
But those were details a ‘lady’ did not need to hear of.
“I do share your sentiment and agree, there’s nothing wrong with your initiative, however of a surprising one it is. But, please, have a seat and allow me to start by undoing the manner in which you were welcomed,” Gowyu had a vague gesture for the man who had halted her and spilled the drink in her glass, he addressed the man with less of a courteous tone, but none of the bite he usually had in private quarters, “Help the lady find her seat, and see to it that she gets a replacement of the drink you carelessly spilled.” And so, this time, his man went for the chair and had it pulled and waited for her to find her seat.
Gowyu too, stayed still and waited for her to do so, in the manner a predator might have lingered to see which line would their prey decide to head into. The forest, where it would be easiest to track them down, because it would be harder to run, or right in the vast horizon, where they would easily be lost yet again? Either way, he’d heard of her having those same instincts, that made this all the more appetizing. Who knew what her instincts would be telling her, to take the seat, or to turn back on her heels and refuse the offer. Maybe this had been a spur of the moment, something that had been brought on by the drink in her hand. Maybe she’d had one too many, he cared none for any of those details though. The moment she helped herself in his chair, he hoped she knew it would be a point of no return for her.
She would get her introductions, and he would get to capture an important piece.

achelois50168:
the need to feel superior at all times pissed samuel off. gowyu’s men could have helped him without a second command, for the sake of the poor child. he was sure that if the fae felt like it, he would wait until he was done with healing the boy just to kill him off in front of his father.
samuel stopped himself from sarcastically replying with ‘no, he’s perfectly fine!’. the situation was getting to him more than it probably should. the healer was pretty good at emotionally distancing himself from the people he healed, but it was different when it came to situations like this. after all these years, he was well aware of the fact that gowyu never gave anyone something for free - he didn’t even want to know what the poor man had to give up just for the sake of saving his son’s life. his mother had been one of his victims, gave up the only thing she had just to get money, just to get what she longed for. she gave up the freedom of her eleven year old son for some hours, days of joy with drugs.
the more blood the child lost, the less he fought against the men holding him down. for samuel, everything was moving in slow motion as soon as he put his hands on the wound again. as soon as he focused on pulling the energy out of his manacore, it started flowing through his body until it reached his fingertips. the wounds were large and deep, too deep for such a little body to handle. it was a wonder he didn’t pass out immediately.
every time the healer was put under a lot of pressure, everything around him seemed to disappear. it was just him and the boy left, no one else visible around them. he ignored whatever the father had to say, too caught up in his own world to understand what led to such a horrible injury. the only thing he noticed was the kid’s breathing slowing down. it was nothing one would usually worry about, given he could be calming down from the pain. but his hands were still pressed against the wound and only then he realized that he wasn’t healing quickly enough, that light thread that stitched the wounds together couldn’t stop more blood from flowing out. he nodded in the direction of gowyu’s men, trying to show them that keeping a hold of him was no longer needed. the healer then lifted one of his hands from the wound, tried to wipe it on his jeans and then gently placed it on the boy’s pale little cheeks while his other hand remained on the wound, saved what could be saved.
“seems like someone wants to save you from the corruption that was yet to come.” a weak smile curled around his lips and he pushed a few strands of hair out of his face. “you did such a good job while trying to protect your mother, you hear me..? i think you’re one of the strongest people i’ve ever met.” he lowered his voice the more he talked, as if he was trying to keep everything he  said to him a secret. “you’re going to be okay. let’s just..we’ll close our eyes together on the count of three, yeah..?” he lifted his hand from his cheek, took the boy’s hand in his own one and gently squeezed it. “one..” he carefully lifted his other hand from the injury, “two..” and procceded to wrap his clothes around him again, the blood was flowing freely now, “three.” as soon as his eyes were closed, he did his best to ease the pain a little bit, continued to squeeze his little hand.
and then his heartbeat stopped.
when he opened his eyes again, the boy had gone limp next to his knees and he slowly let go of his hand, wiped his hands on his jeans. “there’s..there’s nothing i could have done, he lost too much blood and the  injuries were too deep. there was some damage on his organs and spine, it would have taken me too long to heal everything. i would have needed a second healer, i had no..i had no chance.”
the smoke he was having lasted longer than the kid’s last moments in this world. to gowyu, that was certainly proof that his lifeline had not been meant to be prolonged through the agony he was probably feeling. but if he had even so much as suggested to end the poor thing’s suffering, he would have been seen as the bad guy in this story. that was how things went down here. sacrifices had to be made in a way that they felt they had control over, otherwise, the person who suggested the rationality of losing something to let them be at peace, or even to have a better life yourself was deemed as the rotten minded one. well, whatever it was that these men were praying to in this city had decided for them, he supposed.
the kid was gone, samuel was going on about with some words that were filling in the room. it sounded like gibberish to gowyu, none of it mattered anymore. his men were slowly moving away, some of them seemed affected by the blood on their hands, or by samuel’s words. or was it the father’s tears stricken face, the shock of the loss stilling him in his knelt position without a sound, that they were holding onto and being influenced by? how funny, gowyu could give them an order to break someone to pieces and they’d do it without flinching. but let a kid die in front of their eyes and they became the pathetic weaklings he’d always known them to be.
gowyu let samuel handle the explanation, it sounded like he was giving them to the father at least, before crushing the butt of his smoke and deciding it might be appropriate for him to step in and give his own words of anguish too. or as much of it as he could afford to. he took his time getting to the bloody scene, to stand next to the man, his knee accidentally grazing the back of his shoulder. it could have been that the touch brought him back to a reality he probably didn’t wish to get back to, or maybe it was gowyu’s presence that had a tendency to shift the air around people. whatever it was, the grief stricken man turned to him with wide eyes, a gaze that did look quite petrified by everything that had just unfolded. the poor man had expected too much from the hands of the healer, he’d expected a miracle clearly.
“i’m sorry for your loss, and that i assured you he was the best. please forgive me for putting my trust in the wrong person, a person who clearly doesn’t even believe in their own ability seeing as they’re now adamant they needed a second healer.” how laughable.
it wasn’t samuel’s fault that the child succumbed to his wounds, it wasn’t anyone else’s fault but the kid himself for trying to fight when his courage was bigger than his strength. but it wasn’t gowyu’s place to tell that truth, he was here to make sure the man understood that samuel was supposed to be the best man for the job. the obvious fact that he failed to deliver was not gowyu’s fault, because he’d accomplished his part of the deal, and that had to be understood through the fog of the great loss.
lost child or not, gowyu still had complied with his promise. everything else had just been the unfortunate reality of what life meant in this city.
to live, and to die. most of the times in misery and pain. gowyu looked around at his men, and with a gesture of his hand beckoned two of them to his side, first for protection because one could only anticipate what a loss like this would do to a man’s mind. they could turn violent before they let themselves accept the truth. the man might not care much for gowyu’s words, or samuel’s reassurance. whatever it was, he wasn’t about to get a scratch on him for some filthy child. he rolled the sleeves of his shirt, he couldn’t wait to get out of his clothes, take a proper bath and wash away the stench of this death.
“but you can believe that i will give him a proper burial, because that is a task i will handle myself personally with the help of my men, so it’s sure to not turn into a disappointment.” gowyu let his hands slides in his pockets, his gaze moving away from the man and to samuel instead, he hadn’t wanted to acknowledge the healer at all, even less when he’d started barking orders at his men. but he was now, because he wanted to make sure samuel understood that the disappointment here was him.

zuihuojoui:
Indeed, it was the little shit of a brother Sayge was cursed with. He recalled the last words he uttered concerning this useless lump of shit bowing before his grandaunt. A threat to his life, Joui recalled, with much disdain lacking as he had then. Then, at immediate sight of even the back of his head would inspire thoughts of suggested self mutilation that none of his luck would offer mercy for. To see his beloved, limping, sullen, diminished with this green shaded refuse as chief cause, boiled his blood that she alone could have calmed, distracted. The threat had still gone out, though he was certain Sayge had said nothing. She did not need him to handle her little runt of a brother, even if he was very willing.
Oh how Joui would have loved to see him then. When every sight of Sayge’s reduced form and the bandage brought remembrance, he wished for sight of this one earring wearing offense to green.
Yet it had not quite come to what he had supposed. And that was fine, for the best, he said, as days had gone and turned into weeks, then months. Now, after all that time, finally, here before him was the same one earring wearing offense to green.
Prostrating, humble, and smiling. Following the rules his blood demanded be obeyed, the ways none could not fight. Bowed and silent, complimenting and orderly, my ,look at him. One would think this was not the same rascal who provoked his elder sister to such rage she threw crystal to his head and cut her very foot.
The teasing by Ayao he refused to let bring a responding smile to his lips, instead he watched this runt, expression unchanging. The same smile that appreciated her rubies and the selected wine fixed to his features, no hint of reaction present. That glint in her eye as she smiled at him, searching for weakness and a crack in his barrier against her taunts, then shifted to the green tinted shit and his appropriate level of respect to her rank and age.
“When was the last time I laid my eyes on you little Gowyu”, she sang sweetly. Of course it sounded pleasant, indeed a question but not one she cared enough to wait for an answer. Her eyes shifted. “And you Joui? You were ever close to Inyri’s children”, she said then drank from her glass, eyes challenging Joui.
This was her way, now that she found a game to play. How he longed for when she bored of this realm and returned home where she could torture her brothers and the rest of their clan. She would love to aggravate Joui in the surest way to see him react, to see his smile meet her challenge, see his barriers raised. He would give her no such pleasure.
Joui passed his eyes over the runt, drinking again from his glass, beyond ready for Ayao to send her from her presence so he could at least drink and eat in peace. “He has made himself scarce from me”, Joui answered. “He is busy with dealings here and there”, Joui worded, “ever the entrepreneur, aren’t you Gogi”, he added then set his empty glass on the table eyes fixed on the Kō .
His smile widened, corner of eyes catching Ayao’s reaction, her own deepening. Fine. It could not be helped. He would play her game, sure. For while he played hers, he would finally get to to have one of his own with the idiot who dared bring harm to his beloved Sayge.
“Gogi”, Ayao picked up, head tilting eyes shining golden, “Precious”, she said before drinking from her glass. “Does it not swell your heart with the memories of home?” she asked Gowyu. “That beautiful deep red reaching out to the heavens, I mean. Does it not remind you of the sea of dancing fabric present in your clan?” She asked then slanted her eyes to Joui, his smile widening. He knew just what he meant.
“Gogi refrains from such hues, ever the individual”, Joui added shifting his eyes to the golden gleam of his grandaunt. He felt the small traces of mana pulled to her and wanted to laugh, wondering just what she was up to.
The people that worked for him would think that all of these pretenses should have irritated him beyond measure, but many would be surprised to know that Gowyu did not mind it in the slightest. He did not mind being spoken to in a condescending way by any of the high faes, nor did he mind the way they held themselves to a higher status than everyone around them. Because he understood that their position was not a false pretense. So why not act accordingly to the status they knew they held? None of that bothered him, no.
What truly did get under his skin was that the existence of Sayge was the reason was stifling his own predisposition to the grandiosity he knew he was born with. Before Gowyu had put himself on this path to undertake her given throne, that he truly did not think she was worthy of, he’d enjoyed many of these prestations. One because they’d always codded him in them, his mother making sure to remind others that he was one of her favorite children, because he was. It could be because he was her last born among the three she had with their father, or simply because Gowyu had always loved her back just as much. Whatever the reason, his mother’s favor had always left him with more than enough adoration and Gowyu had grown to love and bath in it without hesitation. So this was nothing. For all he cared Ayao can treat him the same as his mother would, it wouldn’t change the fact that he hated the decor and he wanted to be out of here because feeling like he used to before the man he became in Kadeu could leave him with this discomfort, this nausea dancing in his throat. But he could withstand it without too much hypocrisy. Maybe that was what made him nauseous in the end, the fact that he could enjoy this.
“Years back, I suppose, maybe before I finally let myself cross the gates to the city of Kadeu.” The truth was, he didn’t know how long it’d been, time was not something he sat and dwindled on, plus, he didn’t care to know. Her comment about Joui being close to Inyri’s children, encompassing him in that statement made him lower his eyes rather than steal the sharp glance he would have thrown at the man himself, if anyone else had made the comment. Gowyu might have had a small smile or not, as his eyes stayed lowered, but not for too long, he wasn’t ready to have this taken as something to be disciplined for. Lord knew, he’d worked too hard to avoid that happening in Kadeu. He liked keeping the peace among faes, and wreaking havoc among the citizens of Kadeu. His goal had never been to undo the people of his kin, only one of them had to be taken down. So when he looked back up, he had the sweet smile that had been vigorously instilled into him from very young.
He was not going to comment on Joui being close to Inyri’s children, or even bother to register in the precious name given to him, rather be safe than sorry, because nothing good felt like coming out of him from both of those statements. Instead he turned to the next one thrown his way, and had a little bow of his head towards Joui, “I take that as a compliment from you, Elder Joui, you handle your affairs in a way that I admire.” Aside from the personal ones, the others could not be disputed in regards to their quality. Gowyu took his eyes back on Ayao, and to her, he gave a soft nod, contemplating what she’d said with maybe a bit of nostalgia, it was gone with the wind but he acted like he had it at the forefront of his mind as he agreed with her, “Although I feel as though our colors suit my mother, and would my dear sister even better than me,” Gowyu turned to Joui with a tilt of his head as he added gracefully, “Hence why I might tend to abstain from adorning such precious hues,” Then back to Ayao, “I do agree, and may I add that, they are majestic and worthy of the gates of heavens opening to let them, not only in, but also reign sovereign.”
How long would he have to stand there and get pulled into this little game that was starting to weigh in more ways than just words? Gowyu wasn’t certain. But he was beginning to not like whatever he was feeling in the air. He had been right, indeed, to prepare himself a little surprise to recollect himself from the aftermath of this visit. Because he was starting to feel like he was truly going to need it, he might just amp the dosage a little bit once he was there too. One thing was for sure, he wasn’t going to be speaking if he wasn’t spoken to. So questions answered, he stood and waited for what was to come next. Maybe that would quicken these greetings, he could have sworn the ones before him had been dealt with in the flash of a light. For once, he might have benefitted from being as common as the grass that fed the beats of this city.
