100% of our users want to achieve this body type. This means that at least in our sorority all of these girls want to look like this supermodel in a bikini. Little do they know this model is airbrushed, lenghtened and bronzed.

This was one of the pictures we used in the survey. We asked if this famous Victoria's secret model had an attractive and desirable body type 54 out of the 59 users said it was attractive and desirable. This is what men find sexy and therefore what women want to achieve as a body type.

I like this. It's an original, positive picture about being yourself, and how no one should ridicule you for being yourself.

The Solution
So we get it... the plethora of media images is causing young girls to have extreme self esteem issues, and oftentimes depression, anorexia, and many other psychological and physical disorders. How do we make a change?
Well, other popular and main-stream retail brands could do similar campaigns as American Eagle's, and potentially increase sales revenues, just like American Eagle did. These retail companies would have women model their clothing and be photographed normally, but wouldn't have the Photoshop finish that we see in magazines and all over social media. Half of the pictures we re-blogged are edited with some kind of Photoshop technique, and that's why it's completely unrealistic.
Aerie came out with this statement-
Their recent ads are "challenging supermodel standards by featuring unretouched models in their latest collection of bras, undies and apparel."
And no, one campaign won't solve this issue, but when one popular brand with a young demographic makes a move like this, it can definitely make a difference.
This is what we suggest other retail brands do. And since we understand that the objective behind all major media production and brands is MONEY, we promote this suggestion with money still as the key goal. We understand that the drive of money is inevitable and it is not something we can change.
Maybe sales will increase because the demographic will expand—maybe more mothers will support these brands because they want their daughters to wear clothing with a positive, wholesome image. And maybe more young girls will feel comfortable representing a brand that has realistic and average models, rather than bone-skinny supermodels.
