ok what is up with ppl on this website acting like taylor swift and her fans have committed crimes against humanity and need to be drawn and quartered. saw a screenshot of a tweet that was from a swiftie who was like "you will not understand the tortured poets department like i do unless you have a diagnosis in the DSM-5" (extremely common and basic joke) and a bunch of the replies are like "swifties don't understand mental illness i bet they would be terrible to people with intellectual disabilities or psychosis etc." which is like. actually a very horrible thing to assume about a person on the basis of the fact that they like a music artist you don't like

i have never had a problem with impulse spending because i grew up #poor and developed money anxiety, until very recently when i started using depop. and now i've spent over $250 on clothes in the past 2 months which is more than what i normally spend in a year. i find a good deal and i simply HAVE to buy b4 someone else snatches it up. it's like crack and i need someone to take it away from me

ok after a few more listens i haff to say... ttpd is a huge mess so i understand the poor reviews. i maintain that i like it better than midnights. there are definitely many redeemable tracks on it that i will continue to listen to and enjoy, especially on the back half, and the worst ones are just kind of boring rather than being straightforwardly bad. but the lyricism just isn't good. it's so clunky. im not as offended by some of the sillier bars (you know how to ball, i know aristotle, etc.) as everyone else seems to be because i do think taylor is being funny on purpose. but like even the best most cutting and serious lines on this thing are soooo below what she's capable of. i feel like i went in with low expectations and that really colored my initial impression ... spoke too soon about finally getting folkmore pt. 2 i fear

also i was convinced that any song taylor ended up writing about travis kelce would be hot garbage so i don't know how to feel about the fact that so high school is really really good :////

releasing an entire second half to the album at 2 am was already an insane move but the fact that it's BETTER than the first half ????? the way it resolves so many of the criticisms i was seeing of the first half (same-y, clunky lyrics, not catchy, jack antonoff production is stale, midnights pt. 2) ... i have my reservations about climate criminal taylor swift but she is kind of a genius

the charlie puth tattooed golden retriever line had me momentarily terrified but i am pleased to report after listening to the ttpd leak that the album is actually very decent!!! thoughts:
its bloated with a lot of forgettable/same-y tracks but that's true of all of taylor's projects so i expected as much. they're mostly front-loaded so the album gets better as it goes on
lyrically and sonically miles better than midnights but not as good as folklore and evermore
the humor is very taylor and not for everyone but besides that verse it landed a lot better with me than i expected!!
so long london and loml are solid ballads
but daddy i love him and i can do it with a broken heart are fun
florida!!! and who's afraid of little old me are absolute bangers, my favorite tracks handily
overall it's maybe a 7/10? im dying for her to drop jack antonoff as a producer though because the tracks he's not credited for are consistently better and more interesting

i have kind of a morbid fascination with terfs especially the ones of the gender-abolitionist-who-reads-andrea-dworkin variety bc. when i see their takes im always wondering, how can you _so_ close to getting it and yet _so_ far away at the same time?
it's become pretty obvious to me that you can't abolish gender while also upholding sex segregated spaces as some kind of inalienable right of cis women & promoting lesbian separatism etc. if you think male violence is a result of male socialization rather than inherent sex difference (which is correct) then holding the aforementioned positions at the same time is totally nonsensical. it's also certainly not "radical" in the sense of "radical" meaning dismantling oppressive systems like gender at the root. if the idea that male violence isn't natural or inherent isn't reflected in practice then, functionally, that's not abolishing gender, that's just doing gender again in a slightly different way. (this is what marxists call "praxis", i believe?)
the most generous argument i could give them is that terfs simply place more value on the immediate material well-being of cis women vs. creating a society that is safer and freerer for everyone, gay or straight, woman or man. but in that case it is a pathetically defeatist and fear-based philosophy. its weak, it's selfish, and it's sort of spiritually corrupt imo
i have always found most mainstream criticisms of terfs to be somewhat lacking because they don't ever take the time to explore their more philosophical arguments but. after attempting to do that myself i have come to basically the same conclusion tbh. it's just bigotry with intellectual feminist window dressing.
i also think there's are legit valid criticisms of the popular rhetoric around gender affirming care reifying sexist gender norms. like for example, i do think it's pretty regressive to present facial feminization surgery and breast augmentation as "necessary" and "life-saving" care, and that it reinforces sexist beauty standards. i can see how this slippery slopes people into becoming terfs but like, only if you take the complete opposite conclusion away from this than you should. terfs bc they are bigots misundersfand this as a case of trans women having a botched understanding of women's bodies because they're actually men, when actually this is a case of trans women internalizing sexist norms around women's bodies in very much the same way cis women do. the solution isn't "trans bad" the solution is expanding our notions of what a woman or a man can look like and destigmatizing trans bodies that don't "pass" (as well as cis bodies that don't "pass"!). and it's true that this isn't really abolishing gender or gender roles either, but it gets *much* closer to it than excluding trans women from womenhood because being born with a penis supposedly makes you x y z and you cannot escape that no matter what
