A Yoshi’s Story review in a 1998 issue of the British N64 Pro magazine contained an image of the Frog enemy with the caption “I have to admit, I don’t know what this is”.
This is likely due to the Frogs only appearing in the second half of the Neuron Jungle level, which would never be visited by a player only seeking to advance through the game as quickly as possible, since there is enough fruit before encountering the Frogs to finish the level unless one is looking to collect 30 melons or otherwise fully explore the level.
The journalist playing likely only played each level normally for the review and did not explore the levels enough to encounter the Frogs.

“I want to kiss you. Not on your mouth, but on your most secret scars, your ashy black & journeyed knees, your ring finger, the trigger finger, those hands the world fears so much.”
