an update on the farewell my concubine copy i found!

upon closer inspection the packaging says it's a video cd rather than a dvd. vcds were an early alternative to vhs tapes and predecessor to dvds in the 90s. the largest difference between vcds and dvds is storage space and video quality. the discs only hold so much data, so there's 3 discs for this 2hr 50min film. and since it's been compressed all to hell, the video quality isn't as good as dvd or blu-ray. here's the link to the wikipedia article on vcds if you want to know more!

i found one (1) listing on ebay of the very same copy (link here) that corroborates what i was able to find. according to the seller it's also a rare find in the us which makes it even cooler!

i haven't actually watched it yet though😅 i'm hoping that it'll work on my laptop's cd drive or my dvd player. fingers crossed! and if it does work maybe i'll put another update here talking about the quality. this copy is from 2003, while the version i usually watch is a 1999 dvd from the library.
