I know it’s been a few weeks since “Steamer’s Revenge”, but can we take the time to appreciate how pure and happy Wasabi was during his birthday and being surrounded by his amazing friends?????!!!!!!!:
Wasabi! It was high time Wasabi got his own page. tbh the fact we don't get to see where he lives is a crime, he has so many interesting hobbies and I wanna see his vintage typewriter collection + ironing club awards so bad
I went on a bit of a tangent with this one, so bear with me!
I have considered this before! I think while it's true the goggles messed with his vision while he was human, they don't really have the same impact after his transformation. He doesn't have eyes in the same way anymore—the lenses of the neurotransmitter effectively become his eyes! In season 1 episode 3 "Big Roommates 2", you can see that for the majority of his expressions, the animators convey Globby squinting or his eyes changing shape by having his goo cover the static lenses of the goggles. Like this:
But in almost all the episodes after "Big Roommates 2", the neurotransmitter isn't visible and his eyes are squashed and stretched however needed for his expressions. Here's a screenshot from season 2 episode 5 "Nega-Globby" to demonstrate:
In his introduction episode, it's established that anything he can think, he can do. He doesn't have great control over his body at first but I think that his ability to see just as well as he could as a human despite his neon-green perma-goggles is a facet of that control he doesn't realize he has.
In fact, I would argue Globby doesn't actually need those eyes to see:
He can navigate the streets of San Fransokyo just fine as a giant penny.
To get back to Obake's lair, he takes on an amorphous smile appearance.
In the season 2 finale "Legacies", he fends off buddy guardians as a huge metal hand amalgamation.
...And those are just some examples. Globby can be anything and he seems to be able to see regardless whether he has eyes or not. When the neurotransmitter bonded with the unknown chemical compound from Honey Lemon's purse, the two merged together in a way that allows him to do a lot of funky stuff. Really, the only limit to his abilities is his own imagination, so it makes sense that if he thinks he should be able to see, he will be able to see.
Because he's used to seeing the way a typical human sees, that's how he percieves things; he's subconsciously using his shapeshifting capabilities to avoid having a lime green filter over everything he sees!
Y'all ever think abt how Globby is probably functionally color blind because his eyes are covered by bright green lenses all the time?
