Let’s talk about my personal least favorite theory of anyone in the entire show!

The Catfish Noel theory, this theory- no nice way to put it, sucks. Yeah. First of all it’s totally out of character, Noel romanticizes heartbreak and tragedy and he longs for a man who would drive him to do some of the craziest things he has ever thought to do, but he isn’t a horrible person. Ok, Noel wanting that life is strictly for himself. He doesn’t force that fantasy onto others from what we see in the musical, in fact he does the opposite. So for him to lie to Mischa about being a girl in Ukraine for him to fall in love with him is just incredibly out of character. People love to bring up when Noel stopped Mischa from seeing his life with Talia but honestly, I think any good friend would do that. I don’t see that as “proof” that Noel is Talia at all, really. Mischa seeing his “life” with her would be devastating for him because he would very quickly realize that that could never happen even if he was picked and Noel knew that. Karnak was practically dangling Talia in front of Mischa to tempt him and just mess with his mind and as a good friend, Noel stopped him. This little bit of evidence also doesn’t make sense when you stop to think that Noel was not the only one to try and get Mischa to not look, Constance was also stopping him. Also, Talia speaks to Mischa in Ukrainian and, shocker, Noel doesn’t speak Ukrainian. At least not from what we know. Noel doesn’t show any signs of understanding Mischa when it talks about Ukraine or speaks in Ukrainian, in fact he seems a bit confused. So basically just everything that would make this theory plausible totally backfires and is immediately debunked. Also, the theory extra sucks because it’s rooted in homophobia. The idea that all gay men are evil and will do what it takes to manipulate a man to fall in love with him is essentially what this theory implies and I hate that the absolute most!
