i think all systems should stop trying to figure out if stuff is “normal” in systemhood before accepting that it’s happening to them.

there have been many times where i assumed i was crazy because id never heard another system talk about something i was experiencing and tried to ignore it. eventually id find someone else who experienced the same thing, and id be so happy, but realize i wasted so much time doubting myself and beating myself up.

yes, look for others who share your experiences, but also YOUR experiences are enough. you aren’t faking for simply having an experience. you should be allowed to feel what you feel and do what you do.

another reminder that feeling as though you're faking is quite a common experience amongst systems (especially when you have recently discovered your system). it is also a sign that you, well, aren't faking.

if you were faking this disorder, you would be making a conscious effort to do so. the fact that you are worried about faking proves that you are not.

I think one thing we need to address in the US if we want to de-stigmatize multi-generational households that include ADULTS from multiple generations, is that parents need to learn how to have adult relationships with their offspring.

Should my daughter deign to live with me when she's an adult she will not be my some vassal that has to obey my household rules. She graduates into being a peer in setting and managing the boundaries, cleanliness and appearance of our home.

Too many parents want to have relationships with grown ass adults in which the parents maintain control and authority, and in which they leverage money and history to get their way from an adult who, very reasonably, wants to be able to make choices and have influence. And then those parents wonder why their kids keep their distance!

But then people act like I've lost it because I let my 5 year old pick the color of paint in her room- a room I seldom spend time in except to take care of her, and a room in which I want her to be comfortable and happy.

I'm not gonna let her choose a paint color for the kitchen right now, because she's capricious and bad at negotiating so we can pick a color we all like. But when she's an adult, if she's still living here? Why shouldn't she get to influence her environment?

People like to have agency. We limit the agency of children because they make choices without the full ability to understand the results (sorry baby, you are gonna get vaccinated for pollio even if you don't like it. You don't understand pollio).

But limiting an adults choices in their own home, just because you don't think that home should be a real home for them because it's just for you, is kind of an asshole move, to me.

No need to argue with me if you disagree. You can have your own opinion.

But I couldn't treat my kid that way, and I have seen enough to know that not every parent treats their adult children like permanently incompetent interlopers.

I didn't just buy this house for ME. I bought it for MY FAMILY. My baby is my family, and she will be no matter how old she gets.

Can we stop making fun of people for not having the same capabilities as you? Expesually mentally ill or disabled folk? Like no I don't shower and brush my teeth everyday like I should because it's fucking hard, I can barley get out of bed in the morning or get through the whole day without being in severe pain and being exausted at the end of it and that's just from physical issues. Like I dont care if you think im gross Jessica, I know I smell like ass. I'm just glad I haven't killed myself yet Jesus fucking christ.

🗝️🏷️ RAMCOA, discussion of DID as a plot device

I think I don’t like media about spies. I’ll follow any pretty man with half a plot, but I’m beyond tired of the split personality villains and adult consensual programming.

I can imagine one of those protagonists discovering an evil alter in a modern RAMCOA system. It’s been a long time since two-alter systems were standard, but it’s common in those pieces; a single Big Bad alter is discovered, the story moves along, the rest of the system continues scheming or whatever else they’ve been at.

I’d like to see that from the system’s POV. Like a teen alter passing by front and going “oh, Dante’s got us kidnapped again” while everyone else just sips Capri Suns and naps.

Or the whole system is working together and the front self is the only one unaware, so they up and break out of containment because nobody thought there might be others with skills outside of the two they already knew.

It was a misunderstanding and both the good and evil alters have subsystems hiding knowledge, and really they’ve gotten it backwards which priorities are whose.

There were two alters this protagonist was chasing, evidence for both, but the alters are all in this person’s system and they’re never going to find out which colleague is leaving the trail. The alters know and are pretending to fit the dichotomy because they’re little shits.

It’s deadly serious and there are huge internal conflicts and programs connecting events, but the idiot spy exists to explain to the audience and is otherwise purely comic relief.

Give me a system whose alters all play different roles on the spy team, or who splits for new aliases. Show me a realistic system responding to childhood torture and having a morality crisis.

Even in the context of the existing story, there are means of adding realism when you’re using a real life explanation, especially because the good-evil divide is typically explained as being traumagenic and disordered.

A system can fit any character if you plan it out and get somemany with lived experience on board. The DID trope can enhance a piece, but not as it is now.

Using this shitty version of the cliche hurts real people, and I’m considering writing some emails for ongoing works. If the story depends on the ignorance of the audience, it’s not a good story. Systems should be able to enjoy media without this uncreative bullshit.

Is it wrong for me to feel really avoidant and/or resistant to having fictives? Like they pop up for me like pretty often but I often reject and/or end up having them moved out of visible headspace because something always irks me about them

I think it has to do with the idea that my brain just stole some guy off of a show or game and decided they’re gonna be trapped in my brain forever now and be moulded and warped beyond their canon origin and I just feel irrationally uncomfortable by that
