Starring Prithviraj nine is a horror-psychological thriller. The movie works on a myriad of themes and is genre bending. But strictly speaking it is a horror film.
Movie starts off with a scene from the year 1990 in which a young kid is guided by his father and explained to him the phenomenon of Lunar Eclipse which they witness together. It is an excellent scene and sets the pace for the film even though it is just a childhood flashback of Albert who is the lead character of Nine after growing up to be an acknowledged astro-physicist. Camera work is delightful and does well to communicate to the audience. Cinematography ie the picture quality and the Camera work is of really high standards. From the very initial scene itself the audience knows that this film has some serious goods in it due to it’s visibly high production quality. Film doesn’t waste much time to move forward to the present times but not before we get a feel of the plot doing some lingering around, (ie not moving forward with it’s story or initiating the basic plotline) myself going in blind with no idea of the premise, not having seen any promotional clips, I half expected it to enter the Father - Son - Family Relationship Drama Zone. But no worries since the movie quickly takes you to Himalayas where most of the actual story unfolds including the introduction of the female leads.
Movie keeps you hooked to your seats and the screen, there isn’t any draggy parts for the plot beyond that one Romantic Flashback Song Sequence (probably made for Movie promotion exclusively). The movie seem to reach a conclusion in the end with the re-entry of Inayat Khan ie the Character played by Prakash Raj however it doesn’t. This feels like a significant drawback.
Cast performance was satisfactory. The Kid played his role really well and Wamiqa Gabbi felt like an excellent choice for the cast. Prithviraj stuck to his guns mostly and we felt not an ounce of problem in his performance.
As a whole I will give it a Light 3.5/5.
Film gives its audience a a sort of unique experience with its non-generic plot line while on the technical side it is simply superb.
“We celebrate Onam to commemorate a glorious past. All of us yearn for a time like that of King Mahabali, a time when prosperity, joy and love blended. Life becomes a festival when gaiety and culture blend. Onam delivers the message of both.“
Kasaba a mammootty starrer massmasala releases is cruising to record collections in Kerala boxoffice. The movie sure did benefit from excellent Poster designs that actually managed to match the spirit of the film.
