Some thoughts on Eli & Gertrude. Ok so I headcanon Eli Clark as gay for personal reasons and when people hear that they often assume I'm a Gertrude hater or I'm ignoring her but that is literally the farthest from the truth. I love Gertrude and Eli's story and their dedication to one another but I personally headcanon them as platonic life partners/soulmates rather than romantic partners. I see Eli as someone who is very self-sacrificing and they may have gotten together at some point romantically but as Gertrude taught Eli that he can put his own emotions first he realized he way gay blah blah but they remained life partners and lived together and their bond was just as important and strong as when they were romantically involved so that's why Eli still sacrificed everything for her. I love Gertrude and I imagine her as a wonderful person and necessary part of Eli's story but I hate the notion that she cannot coexist with a gay Eli. This is my very personal canon-compliant but not based on canon interpretation of their relationship and I hope all Eli x Gertrude shippers a wonderful evening
