Back in 2013, I helped guys from Ubisoft Paris to visualize how can main character could look like in Ghost Recon : Wildlands. Tom Clancy as an author starting at 1984 and by 1988 He included the LGBT community in his novels. He had included minority people as someone we could admire and follow examples. He included women who where experts in their feild and had husbands who recognized and supported their success. He has included in his novels characters who are racist because in the 70’s & 80’s racism is a thing, and yet every major “good guy” is not racist.

He has created an gay congressman who is one of my favourite minor characters, a getto gangster who was illiterate be one of the best para military men with a masters degree. Cathy Ryan the main protagonist wife is an pioneer in eye surgery and makes far more money then her husband, yet Jack is proud of that fact. A black man was Vice President, then President of the US.

Things like this was hard to find from 2984-2000 and still lots of authors today get ridiculed for including minorities and the LGBTQA2 community, look Rick Riordan an hero who is criticized for example. If you want someone to read I do suggest Tom Clancy any time, just make sure it’s his books and not a book with his name on it.
