If Max had been any different, he knew that he would not be the Pied Piper he's infamous for being. If anything, he loved the attention. Quite literally, in the mundane world, it made him stronger. Reputation was a source of power for most; it was his own to use for his own gain. It was his own that others often heard of, and their fear of him and his power gave him enough of a feeling of power to be able to sate the true Pied Piper lurking in the shadows cast by the sharp corners of his mind. In between the notes and the rests and the measures, he would feel the need to please his other side further. In a sense, he was a slave to his own captive, and perhaps it was this that made him pathetic.
"You're quite welcome," he chuckled, voice husky from years of misuse. It no longer held the darkened undertones of a rabid murderer, but more of the tamed animal kept far too long inside its own cage. How long had it been since he compelled others to their own demise? Too long -- far too long. He needed that power again; craved it. Manipulating others as they were charmed by his shallow, jovial nature was tool of the trade. It was why the Adversary sought his services out.
But what he didn't expect upon joining them was Katherine, all gentle features and blood-red hair and the ability to do what he cannot. God only knew how curious it was to him back then to find a person who could breathe life into the pawns of evil such as himself; eventually, of course, he figured out exactly why she did such a thing. Like all good stories, it was only hers to tell, and he had no intention of letting it slip from his tongue.
"Such is music -- the definition of forever," he mused lightly, closing the polished wood over the piano keys and temporarily depriving himself of the instrument to such harmonies, only to rest his elbow upon the relatively flat surface, palm cupping his cheek as he turned his head to be able to indulge in the vision that was Katherine. "Me? I've been...around for a long time. Does it matter? You know I don't have the best memory." She was one of the favoured few he would openly admit this to, and only because he knew that she was well aware of the fact.
"But -- Kitten, oh, Kitten, have I missed you! How long have you been hiding from me in this world, hmm? Surely, there must be some ultimate purpose to your presence here." The words are effortless -- almost lazy -- as they spill from his growing smile, eyes for a moment not clouded with madness, but glinting with excitement. Back to happiness again. "The war -- the Adversary -- have you any news? Are you sure they haven't contacted even you? They seem to have forgotten me entirely, although -- I'm sure that's not the case! They treasure me too much. I am too much of an asset, aren't I? Tell me -- tell me I'm valuable to them. I forget...I forget if I am."

»Name: Oh Hayoung

The smile upon Max's features came slowly, then all at once. Finally, someone decent who actually knew how to play music and not just shake their big bovine ass (unlike the ditz who stumbled into his shop one unlucky day and managed to ruin a particularly nice drum set). He didn't care much about her hours; those were flexible. They could also negotiate her wage once he informed her that she was, indeed, accepted. Besides, he didn't at all mind that there was something not quite human about her skills; she was too young to be so skilled. Then again...he was much like her, too. Once. "Max -- no Max was good," he muttered as he pulled out a folder and placed her application inside it. "Max was good, Max is good -- shut up Piper! Stop talking to me! We're not killing this one!"
He just hoped that Hayoung wouldn't mind his occasional...bursts of insanity, and that she would be a decent worker. For her own sake, and not his -- he really didn't like wasting money, after all...

"Can I get a raise?"
He raised a brow at his new would-be employee and her absurd little request. She hadn't been coming to work lately (not that he had been around much either), but that wasn't the point. Max always had to watch out for her if she ever destroyed any other instruments, which would only disadvantage them both. Not only was she not officially employed in his wonderful establishment, she was also a nuisance and an annoyance. The more he looked at her, the more disgusted he became, and the more he likened her to a bumbling cow. Thus his answer was not unprecedented, nor was it unsurprising in its bluntness. "No."

ㅡ The beauty of youth is to challenge corruption; the corruption of the best gives rise to the worst.❞
"처음 뵙겠습니다, 저의 이름은 박예준입니다.” It was a simple, brief introduction but to those who knew who he was, it caused their eyes to widen and breaths to hitch. He wasn’t a threat for society, even when he managed to walk around armed ever so freely. “놀자, 음?” A smirk present on his features, he wondered if they would comply.

He simply could not help himself from quirking a brow at the need for confirmation. Did it look like he'd been talking to anyone else? Granted, he'd set the instruments out during rush hour in Hongdae. It was no less crowded than it had been just an hour ago. The man's confusion was understandable, but that didn't mean that Max had to exercise any kind of patience over it. Time meant money, and money meant a happy Pied Piper who would not go kill-crazy in poor Seoul. He scoffed in response to the question. "Of course I can," he answered, before clearing his throat. It took a few precious seconds to recall what the song was, but his lips parted to deliver the first few lines, the guitar playing no part in it. It sounded odd in his baritone, yet melodious all the same. The ephonious tones were accented by the ball of his palm hitting the body of the guitar every so often as he plucked at the strings. He'd been playing music for centuries, after all. This was no challenge. By the time he finished, he placed his palm over the vibrating strings to keep the sound from echoing excessively. "Are you satisfied, sir?"

Zitao trudged behind the large groups of people with a purpose and a determination to get to where they were going. It was hard enough registering the different lilts of the crowds’ jumbled words but it seemed as if every time he blinked there was something new to look at and although his curiosity was aflame it was teetering on the edge of overwhelming. For a moment, Tao bowed his head and shut his eyes tightly while he waited for the sign across the street to flicker to a bright green—just to regain his piece of mind. Naturally, he followed the crowd when he heard the different types of shoes scuff against the cement under their feet and slowly his strides matched the others’. His eyes shot open from the ‘Hey you.’ reverberating in his mind along with a low hum of feedback and his head whipped in the direction of the voice. He rose his eyebrows slowly and lifted a finger to point to himself, silently asking the male with the guitar if he was talking to him. “Me?” Zitao mouthed and the corner of his lip twitched into a small form of a smile when the performer nodded. Zitao wet his bottom lip with a habitual lick as he thought of a song that he could suggest to the stranger and he pursed his lips before he figured out what he desired. He approached the performer and eyed him curiously before he asked. “Can you play ‘Bad’ by Casker?”

His hands were not made for affectionate gestures. They were not gentle, nor were they smooth. His knuckles bore scars of his father's abuse, and from then he'd never felt any caring touches. More so from the array of disentangled, momentary lovers he'd taken and marked during any drunken exploits. But Kate knew -- he knew she knew, and she knew that she knew, and all those other senseless sentiments of knowing -- that he will never learn how to hold anyone delicately, for he would always crush them in his palms and dig his fingers into their skin. He stayed quiet, blatantly ignoring the taunting of his other half once the woman expressed her amorous feelings for the music he created with physical faculties only meant for destruction and murder.
Yet they were not ordinary people. They were the Adversary. They reveled in bloodshed, and did not shun the most sadistic of beings. He cracked his knuckles out of habit, and gave his best friend a sideways glance. He attempted to recall why he'd always defended her from others of their vile kind, and now he was faced with the glaring truth in her soft features and vibrant hair. The crimson shade reminded him all too well of the glory days, and he was tempted to run his fingers through it -- which he did. Max was never one to resist temptation, after all. Long digits brushed through her hair almost eerily, and he allowed his pale skin to be buried in that stream of auburn.
"I missed you," he stated again, a soft smile -- now different from his previous excited demeanour. Before he'd been like a puppy who'd lost his master, but Kate held no power over him; if he tried hard enough, he would be able to piece together broken fragments of memories concerning the witch and her inability to be fazed by his ever-shifting state of mentality. He would remember, then, the countless times he'd asked her to stay, for fear of going on another killing spree, or having to bring Fire to his lips and misery in the bones of others.
Roughened pads ran along the smooth ebony and ivory keys, before he began to play once more. It began soft. Light. Lilting, like someone stepping into an oasis. Innocent, with a tinge of melancholy. The notes were beautiful and soft and smooth, and his lithe digits no longer held the heaviness and hardness of a murderer, but the softness of water as they moved over black and white rocks. As if he'd memorised the piece, he closed his eyes serenely. Lips too often bitten out of habit parted slightly as a soft sigh escapes his lips. Music was his prison and his saviour. It entrapped him and yet -- it pulled him from further insanity.
The smooth cursive of the notes, the rests, the easy transitions between bars -- oh, he could write a book with it. Telling a tale with tunes was easier and more harmonious, more appealing, than sitting down and writing silent words. Not that he didn't appreciate the words were strung together to make the whole beauty of literature all the more appealing; no, he simply preferred this. Even the brief, ringing silence once he finished, his eyelids fluttering open as if he'd been in some sort of trance. He peeked beside him, head bowed still, hands resting over the keys.
"Was that as beautiful as you remembered, kitten?" he asked, the corners of his lips twitching up slightly as his hands slid off the keyboard. One of them sought hers out, warm and soft in his own. "I hope I haven't gotten too rusty. Then again...I've spent most of my days in this place. I do hope my...ah, incarceration hasn't dulled any of my skills. That would be most unproductive to the Adversary, yes? They can't lose their top musician, after all."

Max did not care much for appearances. Vibrant colours and unique adornments would catch his attention, of course, yet that was all that he really noticed. To him, the crowd was a mass of ordinary mundanes who were all too ignorant of the...not-so-ordinary. Thus as the stranger approached him, the outstretched hand which clutched the flyer dropped to his side, a frown marring his features. "Sir --" Convoluted speech was lost upon the deranged musician, his head tilting slightly to the side as if this would help his thought process. It wasn't that he was stupid; far from it, if he ever actually mulled over the matter. "Sir, do you want a music lesson or not?" he inquired, brow raising as he had no patience for this. Others needed to be offered the same luxury, and time spent deciphering what the unnecessary dramatizations were for. What he got from that little, exaggerated monologue was something about Max being...'a student of fantasia'. Kid, I don't know who you are, but I'm pretty damn old. "You're scaring potential students away."
A senary sphere, was he; risen in over six superior feet — an oriental otherworldly, sickle-shaped judgment in luminosities of the jasper stone that stood near to exasperation centered itself on the boy in passing, tumultuous through such ill-impassioned insult; he required none of education, none of improving nor indoctrination on the topic. “Lad,” thick-laced Osakan emphasis supporting an unmanageable voice delivered, “Gifted am I, with symphonies engendered upon empyrean fields; gardens of the elysian ornateness; exquisite with our gracefulness of the divine, I — require not the apprenticeship of a student to fantasia, when born of me are rhapsodies yet symphonies of nimble sorts,” off-put was he; through summits to his fingers was birthed heaven, those now rising over abdominal muscle, over breast, as if emphasized this pain bestowed upon him.

Well, I’m a wreck. I really can’t explain it but I, I hear the music when I look at you. Orchestrating the song to accommodate the moment. Well, I’m so in love with you.

Max, for one, wasn't incompetent. He was extremely cunning; just a little forgetful. And by a little, he meant a lot -- a whole lot. Heck, he'd forgotten about his best friend for years during the war, and it had taken more than a few minutes of attempting to remember when he finally recalled their relationship and her identity. It was then relative that, even though he'd practically been here for decades, he simply could not remember it if he'd only passed by once or twice.
"I know where it is," he snapped, rubbing his jaw thoughtfully and leaving white chalk marks upon his pale skin. He didn't want her to think he was an idiot; quite the contrary. Finally, he made an exclamation once he finished sifting through years upon years of memory, coming upon the answer. "If you keep going down this road you'll come across it in a few minutes," he answered as he pointed further down the street. He seemed absolutely proud of himself, as was evident in his wide grin. "Would you like me to accompany you there?"
Sunny lowered her gaze as she saw the man frown. She didn’t mean to upset anyone, she just wanted to find the nearest pharmacy to get some medication. Her head was slowly killing her, and she quickly pulled up her scarf once again before she closed her eyes. “I-I’ll just ask—” she started, but she was quickly interrupted by his voice.  His answer brought a small frown to her face. He seemed like someone who actually came from this area, but still he seemed just as clueless about the location as she was. “Wow… You don’t seem to know where it is either..” She shook her head slowly. “I-I’ll just leave you alone if you want me to, I don’t want to bother you with m-my questions..”
