I'm trying to get some sleep when all of a sudden I had a thought. Throughout the lost boys movie, Max makes a lot of comments about how Lucy is a protective mother. What if he wasn't looking for a "mother" to discipline his "children" but rather he wanted Lucy as a protective figure to them? I gotta rewatch the movie and see if that would even work because I can't remember anything in this moment. I do remember max making a lot of comments about how children need discipline, but he's also like damn Lucy, you're protective of your kiddos.
This hatred of your certain beliefs of max being a bad man is honestly so unnecessary and untrue, im not entirely sure where you even got out of the movie that max is a cruel person to the boys? And that he despised them and everything they did, because I assure you he didn’t, yeah so what the boys rebeled against him but their litterally still teenagers no matter how old they are, max literally gave them freedom, and money even when they tried to steal from his brother back when they were human and he saved them from his brother (aka DRACULA) if he was just anyone else im sure he would’ve killed them but he didn’t, mind you this was 1906 and people were unbelievably rude to anyone and people were murdered for stealing, Yes max has done bad things but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad person or how you perceive him to be, they’re vampires THEY ARENT GOING TO BE INNOCENT, and even in his last moments of seeing David you could literally see regret in his eyes, he did care about the boys and you can argue with me all you want idc.
Random thing I discovered recently: I saw this image of Homer on the IMDB page for Near Dark
And I realized that that was the first time I'd ever seen a clear image of his shirt and I'd always wondered about the patterning but couldn't make it out very well during the movie so I never realized it was a person.
And I couldn't immediately identify the man on this shirt but I told my boyfriend and he was like "I'm pretty sure that's William S. Burroughs"
And he was RIGHT because if you Google "William s burroughs vintage shirt 80s" and scroll around you can find this image (very bad quality from a listing that doesn't seem to exist anymore)
Which looks incredibly similar.
So... mystery that I'm not sure anyone besides me thought was really a mystery ... solved :)
This info coupled with the comment that Joseph Porro the lead costumer made about how they deliberately tried to find outfits that told a story about the character im like Homer Near Dark Confirmed Fan of Naked Lunch
As a taxidermist, I completely understand how Gramps knew all about the vampires. I'd say a taxidermist has about the same sense of humor as a vampire when it comes to morbid stuff. I would like to imagine Gramps getting drunk one night with Max and the two of them just laughing and making the grossest, most disgusting jokes ever. I lost my first roommate after I threw a dead cow in our bathtub and I still laugh about it to this day. And you know either Paul or Marko wanted to tan a human skin at some point. Who else to turn to besides a taxidermist? And no, it would not work out very well if you are wondering. And also no, don't put a dead cow in your bathtub and expect your roommate to be chill about it.
