@charmac Thank you for the comment, there does seem to be some uncertainty in the actual figure for either the pitch or the pilot. As to the current episode costs, I sadly cannot find the source I used when I wrote this so please note that citation is needed. It might be that it is for expensive episodes however, even after the pilot wikipedia suggets that the studio budgeted about $450k per episode. Given the meteoric success of the show since then, not to mention general expansion of required resources and inflation,its not unreasonable for each episode to cost a lot more.

The overall fact still stands of the drastic difference in initial budget and current budget of a very popular programme.
