Book Review: We Were Liars.
September 23, 2021.
I read We Were Liars about a year ago. The book is about 3 teenage cousins and their family friend Gat. The 4 of them are called ‘the Liars.’
Potential spoilers!
Cadence (Cady) is the protagonist, the book is written from her perspective.    Mirren is Cady’s cousin and is also apart of the Liars.                                          Johnny is also Cady’s cousin and apart of the Liars.                                            Gat isn’t a cousin yet he is also apart of the Liars, he is also Cady’s love interest.
The family ‘Sinclairs’ are seemingly perfect, They’re rich, athletic, get on together great and well put together; but this isn’t the full truth.
Every Summer the Liars go to Beechwood Island, which is a private island owned by Harris (Cady, Mirren and Johnnys grandfather) The family is very wealthy, but their grandfather holds most of the money.
In Summer 15 (when they were 15 years old) Cady has an accident and hurts her head, none of the other liars contact her after the accident. For the most part, she doesn’t remember what happened in summer 15 or why the liars aren’t replying to her. Throughout the book Cady begins to remember more and more about what happened on the island in summer 15.
Spoilers!
In summer 17, Cady returns to the Island to see one of the houses (Clairmont, the main house on the island; belonging to their grandfather) has been completely rebuilt, they now call it new Clairmont. She begins to reconnect with the other liars after not talking to them for two years, but they are acting strange and won’t answer her questions about what happened in summer 15. She gets a lot of migraines from her previous accident, yet they seem to happen more when she’s recalling lost memories of summer 15.
After being on the island for a while; Cady remembers what happened in summer 15…
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I think the plot was very interesting and the writing style was very good.
