Anomaly the Review
by MRI
Look you guys, I know it's been extremely long since any such type post has been made by me or for that matter Fresh At All Times regarding album reviews. For that I have myself and partly med school to blame. I got lazy and even though my writing was at a stand still, the music industry was not. With that said, let's get into reviewing one of the first hip-hop albums released in a while that is worthy of the distinction.
We all are familiar with the homie Lecrae's exploits on his famed Church Clothes series, but has always been apparent through this emcee's career is his unwillingness to be tied down to the label of "Gospel Rapper" or "Mainstream Artist." In his latest effort, aptly named Anomaly, Lecrae does just that. Not only does he defy the glass ceiling, he obliterates it while at the same time harkening back to the golden era of wordplay, delivery, and purposeful music. Songs like Outsider, Nuthin', and Anomaly speak to an emcee; a product of hip-hop culture, but yet a from a level introspection that is not defined by the morals of the day. Any way, enough of the philosophy. Let's get to the meat of the matter.
Da Good
Excellent production, musicality, arrangement, lyrical coherency, and skill, truly a beautiful album. (Shout out to the homey Street Symphony as well and big up MTSU!!!)
Da Bad
Not much of any here, (a rarity, but I acknowledge that I'm probably bias)
Da Magnificent
Lecrae has successfully managed to straddle the worlds of hip-hop, Gospel, politics, and popular culture. I am proud of this man right here!
Da Verdict
4 Marvelous Cones out 5!!!
**I could give more, but I feel like we haven't seen the best of Crae yet!**
