“ i … ” but she didn’t have to heart to disagree at that moment. instead, she smiled with a sigh. “ i guess. ” seeing him try made her heart warm and ache all at once. one of the many reasons she cared for freddy was how their feelings mirrored each other at times. she knew he understood what she meant by finding a purpose, and yet here he was believing for her when she was struggling herself. serena picked through the clothing pieces he found, looking at them with real determination. “ fun, i can do that. i’m actually the most fun person to come out of hallow falls, ask anyone. ”
“ there’s this trick we can do with fishing line to make it look like the hem is floating around. like princess ball gowns, you know ? though i guess if someone’s going to use this to sneak around, they’d want their feet covered well too. maybe something to keep the hem down when it’s windy… ” she started sprouting her ideas freely, looking down at the hem. as she looked up, she laughed as the hood was flung off. “ sort of, i think his just … makes him invisible. so he can use it in daylight. if i use the blacker-than-black ink, it’ll only be useful in night-time, i think. when you were sneaking around and sleuthing, did you have any useful clothes or something ? gadgets ? hats ? ”
👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── freddy paused to look at serena. he listened to the sigh that escaped her and raised an eyebrow. “ do you think everyone needs a purpose ? ” it was a genuine question because freddy wanted to know serena’s thoughts on the matter because he cared. their feelings often echoed each other. he wanted to see and hear the world from her perspective. “i don’t know much about hallow falls but i don’t need to ask anyone to know you’re the most fun person there.”
his smile grew more as serena began to rattle off ideas. “ if it’s in the dark when they’re sneaking around a floating hem doesn’t seem like a bad idea. less room to trip. ” he suggested. he could imagine himself wearing said cloak and indeed falling flat on his face if the thing was too long. “ oh, yeah that makes sense. is there no invisible thread yet ? with all this magic you think someone would come up with it. yeah i built traps ! mostly for the monsters we were uncovering. traps are .. they’re kind of my thing. we really didn’t use any clothes to disguise us. we had flashlights and that’s about it. ”

we’ve had soooooo many events over the course of these ten years but hands down my favorite would have to be the scream au event we did for the month of october in 2017. everyone knows i’m a horror fanatic. ( i.e mystery inc being my place where i shove all my horror love *taps the b plot* ). the dash TRULY felt like a scream movie. characters were on edge wondering who was next and WHO was behind it. add on the friday the 13th dance that happened and that surprise d*ath reveal at the dance ... phew. i was having a blast. a silly good time. the ghostface reveal was also one for the books. everyone was screaming ic & ooc. it was such a fun joint effort between myself and the members who participated as ghostface. i had the time of my life incorporating my love of horror and the scream franchise to the dash. i don’t think we’d be able to do something like this again but wow what a moment in walt history.

“ to find the something, we need the purpose, ” serena pointed out, using her forefinger to tap at the air. “ i always feel impatient when i don’t have a big project to work towards, i think i’ve lost my ability to … to … to just do something for the sake of it. for fun. ” months ago, she would have been struck by how easy it was to reveal so many of her thoughts to freddy. not just her prepared thoughts, but the random ones, the nonsensical ones, happy, sad, everything in between … everything with him was wonderfully comfortable.
“ the next black cape i find — oh, i wonder if we could make that blacker-than-black colour. you know, the one that looks like a void ? ” she grinned. “ but for this one … it might be more fairytale than 90s slasher. oh but now, i can’t stop thinking about the void cloak. ”
👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── “ i don’t think everything needs a purpose. ” freddy told her. it was easier said than done coming from him given he was a man who was searching for purpose in that moment. a reason as to why all that had taken place did, why it unfolded and why was he and his friends trapped in the middle of it. to just be for a moment was something freddy craved without something to be solved. “ okay well then let’s create something for fun. no big project just ... creating the first thing that comes to mind. ” he suggested holding up various clothing pieces in hopes one could strike inspiration. traps were his thing. he didn’t know anything about fashion that daphne hadn’t taught him but for serena he’d try.
“ there’s an idea. ” he grinned. “ yeah, you know now that i look at it there is a more fantastical element to it. slasher capes have those little triangles on the bottom. ” freddy flipped the cape hood off serena’s head and smiled. “ void cloak like harry potter void cloak? he has one right ? ”

“Yes it does but so does watching you try to lie to me.” Daphne was very observant. She’d studied her friends rather closely growing up. “We’ll say that it was even so you’re ego doesn’t suffer too much. Much appreciated, Jones.” She dusted off the invisible dust just to keep her hands busy before backing up. “You should know better. Oh, yeah absolutely. I do? Wow! All you get from being my best friend is to be able to talk to me.”
👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── “ okay ... got me there too. ” it’s like freddy could ever lie to daph. she knew him like the back of her hand and vice versa. there was a time where being so transparent to someone was terrifying but now it was comforting to be seen. “ thank you for considering my easily bruised ego. i appreciate that. yeah, of course. ” he grinned and bumped his shoulder with daph’s. “ you know i should but i can be taught. well yeah. i’m not this nice to just anyone. it sounds like it’s more beneficial being my best friend but regardless privilege and honor to be able to speak to you. ”

“ there might be a clue up there, i’m not the one who’s gone out on expeditions and investigations here, ” she pointed out. “ you’ve probably climbed something ridiculous before just to find out something. i’ve heard of all the mystery inc hijinks. ” serena chuckled. glancing at him, she felt her cheeks warm up, and quickly focused on the statue again. “ no, because if we get stuck too — anywhere — then that’s not very helpful to anyone. and if we’re not helpful, then what are we ? ”
👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── “ oh a clue huh ? what mystery are we solving exactly ? touché.” freddy laughed hoping his face wasn’t giving way to the blush he could feel creeping up his cheeks at the call out. “ i have .. landed myself and the gang in some predicaments trying to find clues. i’m sure there’s compilation videos of our best blunders or something on youtube. ” being a niche internet celebrity was an interesting title freddy still struggled to grasp sometimes. “ we’re serena and freddy. i think that’s better than being helpful don’t you ? ” he shrugged. “ i’m off duty tonight. the least helpful person you will find in this place. ”

👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── truthfully, freddy would have much rather been doing some researching, making something for mystery inc’s page or anything else that wasn’t a ball. he had lived in elias long enough that he felt as though he had seen them all. the last one being a big too dramatic for his taste but it was the first ball with daphne and shaggy in town so he wasn’t quick to squander that joy. he had wandered off to get himself some refreshments before finding his friends. freddy was enjoying his drink until it suddenly became an ashtray.
the right corner of his mouth dipped into a lopsided frown. “ it’s fine. you don’t have to. ” he insisted. who’s to say that drink wouldn’t have a cigarette in it for garnish. something about the woman didn’t sit well with his spirits. he had been around them enough to know when something was off but he chalked it down to him being uneasy with everyone after the unmasking of his past. “ thank you. custom balmain. ” a piece he had kept from his youth when he allowed daphne to dress him. he saved those extravagant outwear he was shoved into for such events. “ i’m guessing you have a knack for fashion ? ”

cruella flashed a practiced smile as she walked up to the bar, just returning from the smoking area yet again ( bloody hell, this clean city would be the death of her ). "stunning," she said, chuckling to herself as one of the models she'd hired mere days ago walked by. they wore something from one of her last collections before her return. this ... sweet, childish ball was practically a free runway for the house of de vil and she wasn't about to squander it. her models looked divine.
suddenly interested at the person next to her, she surveyed them for a second before making her move : tapping her cigarette holder so the embers of the dying thing would fall into the person's drink. "oh! silly me. let me buy you a new one. and you can tell me all about where you got ..." she looked their outfit up and down, as if forcing herself to be kind, " that."
