even i had faith;
Title: 僕だって信念があった (even i had faith in something once) Characters: Asahi sas Brutus, Zenos yae Galvus, Maxima quo Priscus Tags: Asahi sas Brutus/Zenos yae Galvus, Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Consensual Sex, Crossdressing, Forced Prostitution, Implied Childhood Sexual Abuse, Implied/Referenced Incest, Implied/Referenced Rape, Physical Abuse, Prostitution, Role Reversal, Strangulation, Suicide Word Count: 7,892 Summary: Written in sixteen hours; "Yotsuyu and Asahi role reversal" AU. In times of hardship, Asahi thinks of the sun.
He thinks about running away, of course. Anyone would. But the trouble with running is that everyone in his village knows him, and would return him to the Naeuri home if he were found. His legs are not strong enough to carry him to the next settlement over; at best, he might collapse three-fourths of the way there. He might be spotted by Garlean soldiers and shot on sight as a possible rebel operative. He might die, in other words, and the thing about his parents is that for all their cruelty throughout all his years, they have never planned to kill him.
That's the only reason he can think up to stay — but the truth might simply be that he is a coward, and he doesn't have the courage to run.
This is a little darker than many of my other fics, so please check tags and make sure you won't be triggered by anything that happens here! Otherwise, I hope someone enjoys it! You can read the story on Archive of our Own.

a selfless education;
Title: a selfless education Characters: Aymeric, Francel, Gibrillont, Lucia, Zephirin Tags: Aymeric/Francel, Estinien/Ysayle, Alternate Universe - Coffee Shops & Cafés, Alternate Universe - High School, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Character Death, Minor Canonical Character(s) Word Count: 9,160 Summary: Written August 6, 2019 — August 18, 2019. Modern AU. In his final year of high school, Aymeric finds himself increasingly preoccupied with his piano teacher.
His first teacher is an old nun by the name of Nelinnie. She smells too much of cinnamon, and she teaches him to read music on an untuned piano long consigned to the basement of the church; she always complains of being cold, though she is never cold enough to turn him away. His second teacher is named Pierryvain — a rakish and debonair young musician who clearly thinks himself too good to teach an eleven-year-old boy, but who nevertheless manages to impart his knowledge of scales, of music theory, of minor chords, of major sixths. His third teacher, Vellguine, is a no-nonsense man who is military first and a musician second, and from him Aymeric learns rigidity, thoroughness, precision, control.
Aymeric doesn't know that he's acquired a fourth teacher until he walks into his scheduled lesson one Saturday morning and finds, to his surprise, that Vellguine isn't there.

gambler’s den;
Title: Gambler’s Den Characters: Oboro Torioi, Jacke Swallow, V'kebbe, Underfoot Tags: Additional Warnings Apply, Cross-cultural, Gambling, Photographic Memory, Unresolved Sexual Tension Word Count: 7,740 Summary: Written November 1, 2017 — June 5, 2018; set after NIN 50. Jacke is a man of many masks, but Oboro doesn't seem to need one.
Of course, not all of the guild members share his concerns. V'kebbe snorts when Jacke tries to bring up the idea that Oboro might be lying to them. Underfoot finds better shite to deal with, in those words exactly, and immediately disappears for the next four bells. And Lonwoerd might entertain Jacke's suspicions — but that doesn't mean much when he's never been one to have an original thought of his own.
Only old man Bochard will listen to Jacke's gripes about the sullen Doman man haunting the halls of their convent, and even then, the guild's wizened veteran doesn't seem entirely convinced. "Look here, Jacke," Bochard says, uncharacteristically flippant, "even if what you say is true, what d'you whiddle one cove could do on his own?"
But that's just it, Jacke thinks, gritting his teeth to stay silent. He knows all too well what one man can do on his own.
