No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadows what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence they should be.
First you procrastinate on the task because it is not a big enough deal to get done urgently. Then you procrastinate on the task because it has become such a big deal that doing it is overwhelming. You would think that this implies a middle point where it is just big enough of a deal to get done easily, however the inherent perversity of the universe's causal geometry prevents this
this is unbearable. just a little while ago when the baby was born we were lamenting that refaat never got to meet his grandkid and now his grandkid, son in law, and daughter are dead too?! ايه القهر ده!
positing hamas as some kind of evil boogeyman when hundreds (at least 300) of dead civilians are found in a mass grave around nasser hospital after the idf ran through khan younis……………🥴🥴🥴🥴
biden's desperation in banning tiktok makes the entire thing more concerning to me than if it were something on the backburner everyone knew would never go anywhere.
he tied it with aid to israel to guarantee the bill made it through the senate. amidst all that is happening, banning fucking tiktok is a serious priority to him, which makes me inclined to believe there's a lot worse coming regarding censorship than currently known to the public--the bill before this one would've allowed the US government to ban social media with no other reason than "we think it's connected to xyz", no evidence presented. it wasn't exclusive to china either, it involved every US adversary, a list of countries which could be expanded whenever the government wanted. the bill failed to pass but it was backed by many including biden.
ONE HOUR AGO: greg abbott, who i have the great displeasure of calling my governor, is calling for the expulsion and jailing of ut austin students exercising their first amendment right to freedom of speech an assembly. every single motherfucker on the right soooo concerned about the first amendment seems to be creaming their pants over college students being brutalized and arrested for protesting. its fucking reprehensible.
students at Emory university in Atlanta set up a solidarity encampment that lasted all of three hours before the Atlanta Police department and Georgia State patrol came and forced them off the quad. They threw tear gas into the crowd, shot students with rubber bullets, and tased students. multiple students and faculty have been arrested including freshmen and tenured professors. friends of mine were tear gassed and had their belongings taken by the police, other friends have been arrested for "disorderly conduct" and are currently at the DeKalb county jail, where they'll likely be held overnight. the selections of which students have been arrested and which haven't are transparently racist and targeting black students. students from Morehouse and other Atlanta colleges were arrested as well. I'll update this post with more information as soon as bail is posted but they're still processing the people who have been arrested. if you can call the school or donate to the bail fund please do, and you can follow stopcopcity and emorystopcopcity on Instagram for more information. this isn't the first time Emory has called the cops on student protesters - just last year they called in the apd to shut down another solidarity encampment for stop cop city. stop cop city has lost traction outside of Atlanta but the fight to stop cop city and the fight to free Palestine cannot be separated from one another.
