In college I worked for a literary journal that accepted submissions. One submission got accepted that was a love letter-- very yearning, very deep, very sweet. Very much "we are two ships passing in the night, but I would be buried with you if you let me". Us editors were like, oh, this is nice.

Then came the launch party. The girl who wrote the letter was there, and we were like, oh, you wrote a piece in this journal, right? You should read it! She was like, no, no, I won't... aw shucks, I guess so. And she read it.

Guys.

It was a love letter to a PERSON IN THE ROOM. A person who this girl was CASUAL AQUAINTANCES with-- not even friends, but casual acquaintances!!!! And this girl. I swear to God. Made eye contact with this girl she was in love with, and read the poem about HOW OBSESSED SHE WAS WITH HER. And the poem had a ton of hyper specific information in it, that basically went like "Yes you, you in specific, you right there, I have been obsessing and crying and yearning over YOU".

Anyways they talked about it afterward and parted on good terms, but holy shit.

So, moral of the story, sometimes the angst doesn't go away. Sometimes the angst just grows a pair of fucking balls, my god.
